Michael Johnson

apparently ran a 4.49 (unofficial) 40 at his GT pro-day. That's faster than many RB's and WR's this year.

Official time of 4.61, some scattered times closer to the unofficial listed.

As I have said before if Johnson is there at 15 he's my pick.

Running a 4.49 at 266 lbs and having experience playing LB, he's a freak.

I doubt he will be there at 15 but if he is that's a steal. IMO

Probably just a hand timed run on a fast surface. Wells was hand timed as low as 4.34, but his official was 4.39. Johnson ran a 4.61 at GT's pro day last week.

I've seen some projections with him falling to the second round. I think it's a mistake to take a tweener like Everette Brown over a true DE.

TTP time will tell

What do you think about Sidbury in the 2nd rd?

He has long arms & ran the fastest 10, 20, & 40 time at the combine.

Sounds like the pass rushinng DE we've been looking for opposite MW.

I would have no issue with the Texans taking Michael Johnson. I love his athleticism and think he could give us some more flexibility with his ability to rush from the LB spot. The problem with him has always been inconsistency but we seem to have had fantastic luck with another athletic DE who was deemed to have that problem. He's definitely not my first choice, but I would be perfectly happy with him.

If you take Mathews with the fifteen, why not. I'm not sure what exactly Belichick has got in mind....but with Barwin, Jaron Gilbert and Sidbury all sitting there at the start of the second, He's go somebody targeted. Miami needs to get more athletic at LB also....and you've got two new teams switching to 3-4....wait until the 79 and you may be too late. If they went with Ayers @ fifteen, that would give them one guy who has the off season proof, he could come in day one and make a difference. But if you do that....you're gambling there will be a LB there after the 46 who can run and beat out who we've already got.

Play makers on defense, the best two you can hit with the first two picks. Every 3-4 team will love Sidbury and what he could mean in that scheme. The ultimate game of chicken waiting for Sidbury to slide to the 79.

I believe he has the hips if not the experience to beat out Diles before September.

I think Johnson is a Jason Taylor type of player. He's going to be a situational player the first few years of his career, before he becomes a full time starter. The kid can flat out dominate when he wants to. I think that sitting on the bench will keep him fresh, and hungry. He has the talent to be a starter for a long time once he gets coached up. I don't think we should spend the 15th pick on him, but I'm not going to freak out about it if we do.

The 2nd is a little high for a 6023 pass rush specialist. I like what he brings to the table in that role, but can't see taking him earlier than the 3rd. He could be a Middle class mans Dwight Freeney. Good, sometimes dominant pass rusher, who will always be a liability against the run.

I want Barwin @ 15 & Sidbury @ 46.

I cant find any film of Chris Baker @ Hampton but he intrigues me @ 77

I'm projecting... and I thought I made it clear in my post....as our starting Sam by September.

Mathews Will. Ryans Mike. Sidbury Sam.

And that there thingy, my friend, is a super bowl class of starting NFL linebackers. Bush will be able to send anyone from any position and have a more fair chance of getting there and getting the QB on the ground.

That would be a great pressure LB core

Plus you could drop Sidbury down to DE & move A.Smith inside on 3rd & longs.

This would provide the best pass rushing DL we have had since our inception.

Now that we hav smith i wouldnt mind takin johnson at 15 because we can let him develop and use him in pass rush situations from a linebacker spot and help keep our line fresh with a good rotation of line men sorta like the giants had wen strahan was still there

I'm not seeing it. Sidbury could be a 3-4 Weak side pass rusher, but he's never going to be a 4-3 linebacker. That's like drafting a pass rushing DT, let' say Peria Jerry, then moving him to a 4-3 RDE, and expecting him to be an all pro. Not going to happen. There's alot more to being a good linebacker than impressive workout numbers.

Mathews is being massively overrated. He has adequate straight line speed, good burst, and a great motor, but that's about it. He has stiff hips, and isn't good in coverage. He has no ball skills to speak of. His tackling is just ok from what I've seen. He lacks experience, and makes too many mistakes. He's a classic effort guy that people fall in love with for no particular reason. I can see him being a starting 3-4 OLB based on his motor and pass rush skills, but I don't get the way everyone is slobbering all over this kid. The more I see him the the less I want to take him anywhere in the first round.

Goat

Even if you are right Sidbury would be a good pass rushing DE.

If he can play OLB that's a bonus.

I'm higher on Barwin but I like Matthews too.
