Right now I am very frustrated as a Texans fan. I have a season ticket and watch all road games on TV. I think when you compare this team to the team last year; the team on the field last year is better. The team did not address the offensive line. They somewhat addressed wide receiver with a third round pick. Was anyone else hoping we would trade up to get the eventual best player in the draft, Mike Williams, when he was slipping? I believe the defense will be worse. Subtracting Sharper and Glenn is very disappointing to me. They were the two veteran faces on the defense that were known throughout the league. Glenn was getting up there in age but he was still a great corner when he was on the field. He was a playmaker. He might not of intercepted the ball a lot this past year, but he had key deflections. I am a big advocate of getting Peek on the field, but I'm not sure getting rid of Sharper is the way to do that. Foreman, yes. We have yet to see what comes of Travis Johnson, but Defensive Tackles, fat guys who plug up the middle and control the run, can be found later in the draft. Plus, I believe DeLoach and Payne are formidable at that spot for now. I think Clayton, Spears, or Pollack would have been much better picks. NOT DJ like what all of the hometown brainwashed UT fans believes. The Buchanon trade would have been great had we kept Glenn, like we all believed we were going to do. We could use Buchanon as a nickel back and have him as an insurance policy in case Glenn got injured. Groom him to be Glenn's long term replacement. Now we have him on an island opposite Dunta and from Raider fans, it doesn't sound like that is a good thing. Hopefully practicing against AJ everyday can improve his play and attitude about football since the two both went to Miami.
I like the slow growth approach the Texans are making but I think it is going a little too slow. We don't need to go crazy like the Redskins, but we don't need to sit on our asses like the Cardinals USUALLY do. Having Greenwood, Buchanon, and Johnson looks worse than having Sharper and Glenn.
Why were we not active in acquiring another good receiver to compliment Johnson so when we play the Colts twice a year and they roll a safety over in their cover 2 scheme to help on Johnson we would have another above average target for David Carr to hit. Jabar, Bradford, Mathis, and Armstrong are not adequate no 2 receivers in the NFL. Did the thought of giving Mike Williams a work out ever cross Casserly's mind? Trading up could have been a possibility. They talk about watching film. Did you not see that this was possibly the most dominating Wide Receiver as a Freshman and Soph in college football history? He was named Freshman of the year over Brad Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, and the player responsible for an Ohio State championship in Maurice. Just because Mike Williams didn't play one year he slipped. When Vick missed most of 03 was there any doubt that he would be able to come back? No, and he was injured. Williams just sat out. Mike Williams should have been the first player taken in the draft and will prove this down the road. Did the Texans think of taking him? No. Did the Texans even think about bringing in Plaxico or any other receiver for a look? No. Be prepared for the same offense as last year, able to move the ball, but not able to put it in the end zone consistently.
MCNAIR and CASSERLY: Is cutting Glenn really a cap move when we are nowhere near the cap or a way to put more money in the pockets of the higher ups? Cutting ties with Glenn when this team does not have cap trouble makes no sense to me, nor should it.
In conclusion, I am the least optimistic about the success of the Houston Texans this year than any of the previous three. The Playoffs are always the goal, but now more than ever. I do not believe they made the adequate moves to put themselves in the playoffs or at least in contention for the playoffs through week 17.
Agree or Disagree?
