Pre-Draft Testosterone Wars

GP

Go Texans!
Well, with our free agency adventures slowing down...

All we're left to do is to srape and dig for anything we can get our hands on, in terms of what to talk about on here. And with virtually no current Texans news to talk about, I know that between now and the draft we will have a lot of arguments over trivial stuff.

Some old rivalries will be renewed, and some new ones will form and be birthed in all their glorious, ugly demon-baby way(s)...with flame wars and taunting coming from all directions.

We'll talk about the draft for a week or two, gripe about who we should have drafted and why we shouldn't have drafted old so-and-so, etc.

Then the same thing happens between draft and camp.

Happens every time. Remember what ron Burgundy said in the big news anchor gang fight: You remember the rules: Hair is off-limits.

LOL. Let the good times roll!

I will start with an easy one to oppose....let's draft Mark Sanchez 15th overall, that Dan guy is no Sage and we really need a solid back-up quarterback. Now cut off my arm with an ax, but like Ron said don't mess with the hair

What the hell are you talking about man?! Sanchez is the best QB prospect since HWSNBN. With the o-line we didn't have in 2002, Sanchez will be the QB of the Texans future. Draft him, or we will spend a good 3/4 more years, getting exactally 8-8 every year.

:)

Wonder which is better odds that we go 8-8 exactly for 3-4 years or winning the Super Bowl....if we draft Sanchez in the 15th we have a Hispanic hero, but it wouldn't be a smart move unless we move him to LB.

actually his stats are quite good considering he played for the worst team in the history of the nfl..

and he was quite impressive in his interview (if anyone wants to pass some time, theres some nice ones on the site).

anyway, i think orlovsky will net us a 3rd rd pick or higher before we see the back of him. im pretty confident he'll be a pre-season superstar and if matt goes down and he plays well....

also id still love to take a speed rusher with the 15th pick of the draft... namely everette brown:brando:

2005 NFL Draft-I would have rather us taken DE Justin Tuck in the 3rd round rather than Vernand Morency. In the 4th Round of the same draft, we could have taken DB Kerry Rhodes instead of Jerome Mathis.

That was then though.

Cowboys....suck
Jaguars...cant do anything without a tarp.....and I mean anything
Titans....see Blazing Bipolar Bulluck thread.....hey are they the same guy?

ok thats all the testosterone war stuff I got.....man the offseason is long

Let's make this simple. Whatever I post is correct, and if you disagree with it, you're wrong. :whip:

Forget the draft for the moment, we're still in free agency and Terrell Owens is still loose out there somewhere and unaccounted for. Personally I think the Texans should sign him. Imagine TO on the opposite side of AJ for a moment.

Then consider that Jacoby Jones needs a sage and steady veteran to mentor him through these trying times.

Finish up by imagining the kind of friendship and bonding that could take place between TO and Matt Schaub. Sure Owens couldn't get along with Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, and Tony Romo but there's no way he could not like Schaub right? This couldn't possibly happen four times in a row could it?

And I don't believe any of that.

I could hear the Twilight Zone theme through that entire post.

We should sign Brian Bosworth at LB. Wait, I just heard he is locked up by another team.

Sign him for $110M.
Let's make Dunta mad! LOL!

I'm neither drunk nor wrong. However, something that is wrong is on TV right now. The NFL replay game tonight is the Oilers/Buffalo playoff debacle. I can't bring myself to watch it, even though I'd like to see the old Oilers again.

You ever notice that they never replay the good Oilers games, like Earl's epic MNF game vs. the Phins?

Trade Travis Johnson to Detroit for the #1 overall pick.

His trade value is HUGE even though most people agree he's not very good. Just having him on your team grants you a shot at the playoffs.

Travis could be GREAT if he had a good offensive line in front of... oh... wait... wrong bust.

Nevermind.

Well there are some of us here who don't have any testosterone, but we do have a lot of hormones that go crazy every so often.

Free agency was fun for a few days, but now we have to wait - what - 7 more weeks till the draft??? Is this the year they are going to have the first 2 rounds on Friday night?

I am officially on the draft Everett Brown bandwagon, get rid of Travis Johnson bandwagon.

TO - only if someone gets him some "sticky fingers" for his hands.

Sign Warren Moon and Steve Mcnair as QB coach's.

Hire Eddie George as assistant RB's coach.

Somebody get Kubiak a cowboy hat(Bum Phillips style) to wear on the sideline.

Now you got my testosterone up. ( do 69+ year olds have testosterone )

Walking canes, 10 paces, at daybreak.

:coffee:

Okay, the draft is about a month away, and I cannot wait to see who the Texans select. We need a good defensive back but, I do not think that we will get one until either 2nd or 3rd round. But anyways, cannot wait to see how the Texans are going to do this year. You can only get better and I believe the Texans should be in the playoffs this year as long as our quarterback doesn't screw it up. He played very well down the stretch but, lets hope he can keep it up the entire season!

I was poking around on Comcasts OnDemand today. They have NFL OnDemand. In there was an Oiler/fin game. It might be the one you are referring to.

Edit: just checked. It's not the whole game...just a highlight film.

I don't really care about debating draft picks because fan assessments are mostly garbage....

I just want to stab someone with a trident.

LOL.

You looked good out there today. TC, you killed a guy. Oh, I was going to talk to you about that. You're likely wanted for murder, so you might want to lay low for awhile...you know, find a safe-house or stay with a relative.

(see, we are diverting our normal "angst" energies by using comedy)

Doesn't everyone feel better?

Don't lash out. Instead, we encourage you to LAUGH out.

yeah... Yeah...
like Vernon Perry's four INT playoff game in '79 where we beat Fouts' Chargers without Earl or Pastorini or Double-Oh. That's one I'd love to have on DVD.

did I miss something interesting??

Just referring to the opening statement of this thread:

Happens every time. Remember what ron Burgundy said in the big news anchor gang fight: You remember the rules: Hair is off-limits.

I am guessing you haven't seen Anchorman. Spectacular movie. Better with repeat viewings.

<shrugs>

Maybe I should have asked the real question:
do you wish to stab anyone in particular?
hmmmm....??
:D

Obsi:

Even if you are not into Will Ferrell movies...

You have GOT to see Anchorman.

It pokes fun at local TV news and its know-nothing news anchors, as well as a pretty humorous look at what life was like before sexism, smoking anywhere you wanted, and leisure suits were outlawed.

Out of all his movies, this is the one that you can easily get into. The supporting cast, IMO, is what really sets this film off. Every actor/actress is spot on.

Like TC said: Every time you watch it, you pick up on something new someone said or did. It's one of those cult classics like Caddyshack and Tombstone. Never gets old.

IMO, Talladega Nights is a distant second to Anchorman...and his other movies are a serious drop-off after Talladega Nights.

You should check out Anchorman. Good stuff.

I've seen Talladega Nights about 10 times. Or at least pieces of it when I'm flipping through my cable channels.

The movie I keep rewatching now is Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. It's one that you pick up new things each time you watch it. It's funny, the music is brilliant, and it has a good message.

Good comedy is always harder to make than good drama.

I like Walk Hard. Except for that one "part" if you know what I mean. Gaarrgh.

In the interest of open-mindedness, I watched the trailers for the movies you guys mentioned.

I guess I'm too much of a Sci-Fi geek to appreciate Will Ferrell
he still leaves me feeling like this

:D

That's like "almost kissing a girl," Obsi.

You like light sabers, there's a trident being thrown at a guy on a horse.

You like Hans Solo, Anchorman has Brian Fantana.

You like Millenium Falcon, Ron Burgundy thinks "Diversity" is an old, old wooden ship from the Civil War era.

I will pay you $10 to watch Anchorman. The Jazz Flute scene alone is worth $10, Obsi.

Well, when in Rome....

An actual commenter in my blog this morning:

"You need to soonishly drop your infatuation of Cushing (no matter how cute you might think he is) - 1560 had a Draft analyst on the other day who said he couldn't find Cushing on USC tape in third situations and we can't invest the 15th pick in the first round on a guy who's not a 3-down player. In that sense he's like teammate Rey-Rey and not Matthews whos much more likely to be
on the field for all 3 downs.
Ideally we trade down but in lieu of being unable to pull that off I'd take Matthews or the little corner (Alphonse Smith) of the selections remaining on your Board."

My response:

[Don, I'm trying to be your friend by suggesting this to you, but it is never a good idea to suggest to a female writing about sports that she made a pick because she thought a guy was *cute.* You could have easily made your point about Cushing without the adding the condescension. For what it's worth, I do not particularly have a strong opinion about Cushing or any of the draftees because I haven't seen them play. In fact, if you had actually read that mock, I said that the Texans would likely want to trade down from that spot and not take Cushing if faced with that board. I read the draft guru sites but I don't take much credence in many of their pronouncements because they are often wrong and superficial. You like Matthews and Smith, but some draft guru people might suggest that Matthews is a try hard guy better suited to a 3-4 and that Smith at 15 would be a wild reach. I do know a bit more about what the Texans are looking for, and I'm thinking that they would like Matthews more than Smith--I don't think they would be interested to pick a short CB at 15. Ultimately, I try to keep an open mind during draft time--lots of misinformation out there. I think a lot of people read those draft sites that give you a snapshot of a guy and they get too wed to what they believe are the pros and cons of a particular player. -Steph]

I do not particularly want to stab anyone with a trident, but some days it is a good thing that I don't wield one.

An actual person thought that this was a good comment to send me:

hey Steph, your photo on the chron sports page makes you look like a top notch jazzy woman thar
likes to drink red wine and wears red shoes/heels
to go along with your black hair, but the videos on sports off center or w/e its called make you
look like a country girl who dresses in camo and
drink a beer to go with your bacon and eggs for breakfest. you are beatiful, go for the greek look on tv instead of going for the look like you are ready to go on the field and play LB

I am thinking of initiating field sobriety tests for commenters. Most of my commenters are really good, especially for a sports blog, but once in a while they need to be stabbed with tridents.

Well I know you have tough skin based on some of the back and forth stuff you've gone through on these boards. You are right though. They shouldn't judge. If they ever were on these boards they would be able to tell that you have some football knowledge.

You know we always appreciate the blogs you write for us. I guess it's true that you have to have tough skin if you want to blog on the internet.
