Harrison to be released by the Colts

According to Shefter

Everyone keeps focusing on WR Terrell Owens‘ future with the Cowboys. But the more pressing issues surround Colts WR Marvin Harrison.

It’s no longer a question of if Harrison, 36, will be let go. It has become a question of when. It will happen in the coming days, certainly before the new league year starts a week from Friday, but few are sure exactly when.

But make no mistake: It is happening. The Colts no longer can afford to carry Harrison, who is scheduled to have a $13.4 million number for an Indianapolis team that is starving for more salary-cap room to deal with free-agents-to-be such as CB Kelvin Hayden.

THIS YEAR
Just get him out of the AFC South for good. I'm beginning to think the doors are opening for the Texans in the south now.:texflag:

I don't think this benefits the Texans at all. Harrison making 13.4 million for the Colts next year would be great - because he's not worth anything near that. This is a smart move by the Colts. They had to choose between loyalty and what's best for the team, and they made the right choice.

Harrison has lost a lot more than a step, and it showed last season.

True, but the point is the Colts are going to have a tough time replacing him. Wayne is allsome, sure, but he's not the player Marvelous Marvin was in his prime.

Yea but Wayne showed he could be a great #1 when Marvin was down for so long. He and Peyton have a good connection already. We'll see if Gonzalez can step up and be a #2. They still have Dallas Clark.

They still need to draft a WR or acquire one through free agency. Maybe both.

I think this was a smart move by the Colts too. I think the Colts will have one of their lowest scoring teams in recent history next year.

IMO, if Harrison still wants to play I bet he'll re-sign with the Colts on the cheap. I can't see him playing anywhere else.

Harrison is done. If you watched him last year then you know he is nowhere near the player he was a couple years ago. This only hurts the Colts briefly. They will replace him.

Long as Manning is under center the team will be competing for the division title. Harrison's absence and lack of play has hurt but not enough for them to go on the what...8 game winning streak to stop the season?

Gonzalez is a good slot guy and showed signs he could be a viable #2 but I think they might want to draft someone else that might be able to step into the role better. Harrison should either take a pay cut or retire as a colt.

I agree with you.

Coupled with the recent "almost" legal problems for Marvin, he had a terrible year.

Dude is done. If he signs on with someone, It'll be a Jerry Rice type of situation. He'll make some possession catches, but hardly ever hit that home run like he has in the past.

The Colts are no longer THE Colts. They are very much a beatable team all of a sudden. I think it's the years and years of hectic, panic-attack style of leadership from Manning. Those guys got themselves a ring, they're getting older every year, and I just think they're numb to Peyton's style.

Peyton Manning is the only one (well, maybe Gonzalez is with him...due to age) who desires to stay at that level. You can see, on the sidelines, that things aren't the same anymore.

Tony Dungy is a smart man. He got out before it all starts tumbling down.
