Dominic Davis-Slot Reciever!!!!!!!!

The more playmakers you can put on the field at the same time the better.
Speaking about Morency, Casserly said.,“He can play every down." If this is true why not, say on 30% of Texans offensive plays, put Dominic Davis in as the third reciever!!! I realize he wouldn't have the stamina to be running routes much more than that but think about what a dilemna that would create for opposing defences. You would atleast have to make an extra defensive player shift to his side because no DB could handle him 1on1 if he catches the ball on the run. They would at the very least have to pull one extra guy out of the box, which would make it easier on the running game. Carr likes to throw to him as we have all seen, and it addresses a potential future problem regarding playing time between Davis and Morency. I realize this is all predicated on Morency being a decent RB, and with the way Casserly has judged talent in past drafts, FOR THE MOST PART, the is no reason to believe this guy doesn't have the stuff!!!

No offense but that is the worst idea i have ever heard. First of all he is like 5'8" tall which pretty much cuts that idea down right there. Also he has above average hands for a rb but he has below average hands for a wr. Its not too hard to catch a screen pass, i might even be able to do that. But its a different story when your trying to catch a bullet in between coverage with a safety breathing down your neck. He would also have to learn a whole new position which isn't easily especially for someone that doesn't have the body or physical ability to be a wr.

I gotta go with Big Eddie on this one. First and foremost...if height is a big issue, then how do you explain Drew Hill?

I don't see most DB's able to handle DD running short routes and into the open.

Would be a lot of fun.

Maybe throw a few plays in there where we have both DD & VM in the back field. D's wouldn't know which one to pursue. :hmmm:

a two tailback formation would probably be nice.. if we could make it fly.

but DD in the slot.. unnecessary and too risky. We have Gaffney and Armstrong.. both very good slot receivers who get the job done on a very consistent basis.

drew hill didn't play slot receiver, remember that was ernest givens. but i think moving DD to slot is a bad idea. he's too slow and is built like a back. short and stocky. now having DD move in rotation to slot on certain plays makes sense, but not as an every down type of slot reciever. i'm still looking at DD as our permanent 3rd down and special situation back. the only question i have is do we keep 4 RB's and if not, who do we drop. i think DD is almost certain to make the team. Hollings has not proved anything and has been injured. Wells has improved every season and i believe he will eventually be a short yardage/3rd string back. i think morency will make the team unless he gets injured. so do we keep 4 RBs or do we cut one? who would it be?

As I recall early last year we took DD and lined him up outside a few times (not with another RB in the backfield I don't think). We lined him up on the outside and threw the same kind of quick pass like we throw to Andre all the time...except I think those plays were where at least 1 and maybe 2 of his early fumbles came and I dont' recall us doing it ever again last year.

I don't think it will work well, until DD shows he can burn it deep.

Brian Westbrook makes it work because he's pretty fast and can catch some mid-range to deep passes, and make some tricky receptions.

DD.... so far we've only seen him take screens, dumps, and swings. We don't know how dangerous he is if we let him run the outs, flys, and slants that Westbrook is used in, and if he cannot do that.... then LBs will just play a flat zone to nullify the threat of DD as a slot receiver.

It would make for an interesting preseason experiment though.

At 1st I was going to rip this idea then I started thinking for a sec and utilizing DD in multiple roles might not be a bad idea. I actually think that the Westbrook analogy is pretty good.

Lets face it...DD is a prototype scat-back, 3rd down back that works his butt off. I am a big fan of his and he can be a feature back IN THE RIGHT SYSTEM. I think that with VM getting around 10 carries per game will help cut the minor injuries down for both guys and keep fresh legs on the field.

I think that DD should start hitting the workouts with AJ and the other recievers ever so often to continue to develop his pass catching skills; I do think he could be a great weapon if he is utlized correctly AND complemented by other players.
