Free agent list/Players released

I glanced over the list of free agents that would fill an area of need for Houston and in my opinion it seams like slim pickings. Haynesworth looks good, but Houston is probably not willing to pay him. The safety from the eagles also looks tempting. Other than Darren Sproles no player on the tailback list jumped out at me.

Anyone else I have overlooked.

This link might help.

How about Karlos Dansby OLB from Arizona-UFA. He's 6'04", 250lbs., and 27yoa. He'd definetly fill a need at SLB.

Look for Dansby to end up in Miami. Parcells loves him and the feeling is mutual with Dansby. He would look great in a Texan uniform though.

There are only really 3 Free Agents I'd really like to see the Texans go after, even though I don't see them getting ANY of them.

Nnamdi Asomugha - CB, Raiders
Julius Peppers - DE, Panthers
O.J. Atogwe - FS, Rams

Of course there are some other guys who look interesting in Free Agency, but that is easily my Top 3.

I think we will have a shot at O.J. Atogwe but the other two free agents will be to costly.

My top free agents that I would the Texans to go after. I know that we can't sign all of them but I would like to go after some of the players listed below.

1. Karlos Dansby - UFA 6-4/240 OLB
2. Oshiomogho Atogwe - UFA 5-11/210 Safety
3. Leroy Hill - UFA 6-1/224 OLB
4. Derrick Ward - UFA 5-11/228 RB
5. Tank Johnson UFA 6-3/300 DT
6. Vernon Carey UFA 6-4/333 OT/OG ** Move to guard **

A few players were released today. I reckon there will be more to come in the near future.

The National Football Post reports that the Browns have released QB Ken Dorsey, LB Antwan Peek, and CB Terry Cousin.

Lions released TE Dan Campbell, OL Jon Dunn, and G Edwin Mulitalo, CB Leigh Bodden, S Dwight Smith.

Giants released CB Sam Madison, RB Reuben Droughns, and S Sammy Knight.

*Edit: Add WR Mike Furrey to the Lions list of cuts.

I guess Ruben is soon to be a Texan

gee another Texan-Ex Bronco comment......I can never get enough of those. :gun:

Bruce Gradkoski was also released. Don't see a lot of help in this wave maybe as time goes on and contract talks breakdown or decisions are made to go ina different dicrection on some staffs we could some some interesting FA. The link did talk about the Jets being likely to pursue Bart Scott. Wonder if they could afford him despite last year's spending spree.

Dwight Smith would be a solid pickup at the bargain bin. Solid FS who can play CB in a pinch and a good insurance policy in the DB rotation if any of the starters get injured.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

Could you make the argument that he'd be better depth than Will Demps or CC Brown? I'm thinking "yes."

why would you want another tailback when we have Steve Slaton?

Doesn't make sense.

Oshiomogho Atogwe and B. Harrison are both Stanford players. Should be pretty smart, which is a good thing for a safety.

How about DE Bertrand Berry from the Cardinals? He's a quality player that probably could be brought in for a very reasonable contract.

I would say that Dan Campbell would be a good pick up. He has some skills. Depth at TE has always been kind of low, I don't think we will want to keep Bruener and I don't believe Dreesen is that great of a backup either.

I would like for us to go after a guy like Aaron Stecker, Deshaun Foster, or even Dominic Rhodes because even though they are small they do know how to grind out yards.

Dreesen is good, better than Dan Campbell.

TO will be cut. If you haven't heard it before, you heard it here first.

I'm thinking a more productive N.D. Kalu and that that is a very good thing. Love N.D's presence on the team. Would love to see Berry on the team for a reasonable contract.

Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Broncos released Anthony Aldridge. This is one of those times we benefit from a Denver reject; Aldridge, and keep in mind I have a bias against UH, was really good for the Broncos in the preseason, but was unfortunately injured and out for the year. He's not the bruiser we need, but I see him as a definite upgrade over Moats if we can keep him on the PS a year or two

Dreesen is good, better than Dan Campbell.

Let me rephrase that. Since Dreesen is good but not that great to give us a reason not to look for more depth, and Bruener probably will not be signed again, the Texans should look for another back up and Dan Campbell is pretty decent. Low risk kind of guy who can make plays.

I'd like the Texans to take a serious look at Michael Huff SS/FS from Oakland. He's young, and healthy as fas as I know, and getting cut by Oakland could be the best thing that ever happened to him. Huff could compete for either S position.

Huff is a great athlete.

Oakland managed to make Randy Moss look done so it's hard to really judge Huff's career so far.

Interesting. I'm guessing they'll be going after some help at Running back because Reggie Bush can't handle the full load by himself.

I think they will try to platoon Bush with Pierre Thomas for a year and if it doesn't work out they will take a RB next year.

The situation there is actually really sad. How in the world do you manage to pay a guy $8 mil a year and be happy with him being just a punt returner/decoy.

funny... most of my fellow Saints fans don't feel this way at all

the sadness for us today is the obvious loss of one of the best and classiest Saints of all time.

Deuce will be missed.

Yeah, I was perusing a Saints board a few minutes ago and didn't see one poster who was happy about his release. He must've been a great guy on the field, off the field and in the locker room to have that kind of support from the fans.

Despite disliking the Saints for most of my life (I really don't know how it started), I have always had a lot of respect for Deuce.

The guy was a gamer.

You mean they feel Reggie can carry the load or for what he does is worth the salary? Steve Slaton has already almost gone pass all the career marks(aside from receiving yards) for Reggie and he didn't even start all year.

Do feel sorry for the fans about Deuce.

Huff and Jermaine Phillips, I hope we get at least one of them. Both would be awesome.

first, my thoughts on Bush are well established on these boards. I'm far from a blind Bush homer and have expressed my reservations about his health and disappointment in his performance when it comes to consistency. So I'm not going to recap them here because....

second, this is a thread about people who are released. Bush has not been. Deuce has. I'm not going to disrespect Deuce by dragging Bush into an argument that has nothing to do with him and is only here because....

third, there are Texan fans who turn any possible Saints-related or Mario-related or Slaton-related or VY-related thread into a Bush bashing thread. if that's what you'd like to do then there are countless threads you can bump and pile on.

This isn't that thread.

So I won't indulge your non-sequitur because I don't want this thread to get derailed.

Deuce is a Saints legend and lots of hearts are breaking today.

Including mine.

Watching him work hard for a team - never quitting - was something my Dad compared him to Earl Campbell. He wasn't saying that the two were comparable runners - Earl is, imo, in a class with only a handful of NFL RBs. Rather, he meant a RB that embodied a city, a franchise, and a work ethic that will be hard to match.

Thanks for the memories Deuce.
