So far I have to grade a B- on 1st day picks

Wolf

100% Texan
we get a 3rd next year to move back 3 spots..

we get Travis Johnson.. by reading the bio really came into his own last season..and can play in or out.. can hold the point of attack.. (should help free up our LB's).. and hopefully Payne and Walker will be injury free.. (BTW they are long in the tooth and commanding fairly big bucks)

2nd round..(basically) plus Henson we get Phillip Buchanon that we KNOW can play in the NFL and return kicks....

Hopefully Wilkerson or some other center falls to us in the 3rd to groom for McKinney

Lets be realistic C- (average, could be a hit or miss)

1) 3 spots down and we get a third next year? whoop tiiii dooo!!!
2) no second (could change, but what do we have that people want?) Glenn....
3) Travis Johnson? Who is this guy and he has issues with character
4) DJ and Thomas davis where there man, they were there...

only saving grace is that the 78th pick is a O-lineman...... Mankins/Spencer .....Maybe

If ya bring competition to the D-line, then bring competition to the O-line.

you think you could have gotten a Phillip Buchanon in the 2nd?

How can you not know who Travis Johnson is but know he has character issues?

My biggest disappointment like some others is we have no 2nd rounder to look forward to. That means we are through for today. 3rd round and on are not big rounds for good players. Do people pick up gems, most certainly but not very likely. I think we wanted to trade again at 16, but there were simply no takers. I had hopes that we might pickup someone for the offensive line, but it certainly looks like that's not going to happen. I really do question the personnel moves this year. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

TJ is a decent player. Is he Thomas Davis or DJ hell no better said **** no, but he is our pick. I felt the same way when we gave up our entire draft to get Babin last year and the jury is still out on him. The Texans like to reach for players and obviously the thought of an extra third round next year in a deeper draft appealed to our guys. We are going to lose alot of guys to cap casualty and FA so we might as well stack picks. Look for TJ if he comes to play to take Walker's spot by mid-season. You all do realize that we will have around the 13th pick next year right.

isn't that why we got Buchanon? HE IS our 2nd rounder...

13th assumes we have a record similar to this year. It could be a lot better based on what I think might happen. In reality I have very mixed emotions about next year. Have we fixed some of the defensive problems? It appears we have, but I am very adiment about the O-line problems. I don't see how anyone can look at our personnel changes and what we did this year and see playoff's next year. Could it happen? Most certainly, particularly if team chemistry is there. I didn't feel we had much of that this year. So far I don't see anything to write home about. It will be interesting to hear and see the spin on this year's pick by Cass and Dom!

Dude was accused of rape man..... cuss I read it... uhhhhh read he was a head case early in his career also.

You're right he was ACCUSED, then the judical system acquited him an ALL CHARGES, and like most everybody at 18, he was a head case, hell I was a head case at 18. HE was just a kid cut him some slack.

For those bashing the third next year, chill. Nest year's draft is much better then this year's; and any extra ammounition we can gther will help.

I'd have to give it a C. I thought for sure if DJ fell that far down and with him being a guy from Texas they would pick him. Not for just talent alone, but froma business standpoint it would have made much better sense. I mean can you imagine all the DJ jerseys sold? If you are going to tell me that DJ was not good then the Chiefs must not know talent. We then pick a DT that doesn't have the strength that a good NT should in addition to us passing on Brown, Davis and Spears.

We basically spent a 2nd on Buchanon, whoppie do! Buchanon has been a bust for the Raiders, ask most Raider Fans. So he gave up on effort when he wasn't happy. Mingling with Capers and crew that will put him only in as a nickel is going to solve his unhappiness?? Ya ok. I read several accounts that this draft was a little heavy in CB's and WR's.

Vernand Morancy? :shocked We have DD and Hollings (2nd rounder) and now we've got another RB? didn't we draft a RB ever year?

They may have picked up a little talent, but there where better scenarios that we could have done.

OUR GRADE IS A C+. We added depth in a posistion we desperately needed and we picked up a RB that will take the place of the possibly departing Hollings and DD. As for Buchanon he is recognized as a young talent that has not yet matured due to his clashes with management. I do wonder how he will respond to not starting, because Aaron Glenn is not about to sit and D-Rob will not even though in nickel packages he will be the nickel due to his blitzing prowess. Morency was a bad pick when Blackstock and other guys were available and not getting DJ is questionable, but at least we get to see him punish D. Carr when we play them. It should be fun to watch I will be in section 125.

my biggest question mark is how this draft will affect the character of the Texans, and I'm not talking about off field issues, I'm talking about adding a lot of brashness and trash talking to the defense. I'm concerned about the rift between the established vets Aaron Glenn/Gary Walker & Philip Buchanon/Travis Johnson. so I'm not sure how you grade that aspect of it. as far as talent plugged into need positions you could say the #1 interior lineman plus the #1 CB where aquired by the Texans on day one. that should be worth at least a B+, but I am not happy with a RB in the 3rd round when we also need to add some youth and talent to the offensive line to protect David Carr. so far then B-

That was an interesting question about possible character issues, especially since the Texans have done so much to avoid taking "questionable" guys in the past. The Buchanon trade REALLY takes a risk in that direction, but they seem to be confident that the TJ "sexual assault" incident/acquittal was an isolated incident.

On the other hand, Gary Walker needs to prove some stuff on the field this year to justify that huge contract and shouldn't be worried about some trash-talking rookie. I can't imagine TJ sticking around in the NFL if he can't either get along with guys like Walker/R. Smith/Payne OR beat them out for a starting position. That should take care of itself.

The RB pick surprised me but didn't really bother me. When Davis went down last year (followed by Hollings, as soon as a gust of wind hit him in the parking lot) we all saw how important depth at RB can be. I would've preferred an offensive line pick there.

I still wonder about the Buchannon pick, not because he doesn't have potential, but because of our glaring need at the O-line and particularly center. This move almost implys that AG is done despite what Capers says. We gave up a 2nd round pick that could have been used at least for a O-line center. My hopes were Mankins, but he went a lot higher than many thought. I know Mankins is not a center, but he's a heck of a player. I think injuries have put the Texans in a bad position and they had to toss a coin and defense won. I think with time we are going to find out more about the AG story. Don't take it wrong, I like AG but I think the injuries the last two years are taking a toll. I think he doesn't see it, but they do. Don't be surprised if he retires before the start of the season most likely due to injuries.

You guys are a rough! I thought Casserly did a great job and at worst a grade B. He added quality depth and comptetion in the secondary with first round talent in a trade, a free agent acquisition in the linebacking corps, and the defensive line infusion with the first pick in the draft (the #1 rated DT). Those three additions will push the defense to the next level. Not to mention the fact that he picked up an extra third round pick for next year's draft.

The organization obvioulsy believes in the assembled offensive linemen and hopefully they are correct and we see marked improvement this year. Adding another running back in the third is good insurance should DD go down and perhaps he can return kickoffs and he will probably be a good special teams player.

I'd definitely give him a B.

I think we should all just sit back and wait to see what emenates from the guys we drafted so far. Sure they might not be what we all wanted (ie. the whole DJ bandwagon) but only time will tell if the front office knows what they are doing, hence why they are there and we are here...

As for the behaviour problems etc in relation to TJ and Phillip Bucanon's attitude (he was a Raider after all so can you really blame him), let us hope that the coaching staff and the guys we already have in place can make these guys realise their potential and help turn them around and turn them into the quality team type players we seem to make of guys.

Overall I don't think that we should worry just yet until that last game of the season comes around to see what the record reads, which is hopefully a positive one...

We passed on DJ, big mistake (future pro bowler), we could have gotten a corner just as good as buchannon in the 2nd, we could have gotten Tuck with the other 3rd round pick, and then drafted a future pro bowler in Chris Henry.

A C draft at best.

perfect example of a fan who thinks hes a scout =p

1) We got picks for next year, always good, we aint gonna make much noise this year anyways.
2) We basically got buchanon for our 2nd.. come on, hes first round talent.
3) Travis Johnson was a top rated DT out of highschool, the guy can play, period. Character issues were a assault charge on a student at FSU, which was dismissed.
4)DJ is not physical enough for our 3-4 defense, sorry to say it.. he'll be good though. Plus I think Capers really wants to give Peek his shot. Thomas Davis? Guy is going to be a descent LB.

So basically, a B is right about where we stand.
