ESPN blog is doing a piece called "Who Should Be on Texans Mount Rushmore."

He wants Texans fans to give him input.

With just seven seasons of history, this is a young team and finding four to serve as permanent representatives may be difficult. We'll project if we must, choosing a face or two based as much on expectations as performance to date.
Everyone is eligible -- players, coaches, executives, broadcasters, mascots, ticket-takers and popular beer vendors at the home stadium. Who are the four best faces to permanently represent the Texans?

Chime in here or with a note to the mailbag with your thoughts.

I'm not sure if I will look to sort through your feedback and come to a conclusion at the end of this week or if I will wait until after the ESPN.com cut down on Feb. 15 when reader votes will select the five most impressive/significant states.

Meanwhile, if you've got any good, mountainous real estate (or a place where we can drop a giant boulder) near Reliant Stadium where we can get this thing sculpted, keep us in mind.

I think this is a hard call.

Andre Johnson goes on the list.
I think Bob McNair has to because without him there is no team.

After that, you can make an argument for a lot of players.
 
Andre Johnson for obvious reasons. I would have to put Mario Williams there along with DeMeco Ryans. Not sure about the 4th. I'd lean towards Chester Pitts or Kris Brown.
 
McNair, Andre, DeMeco, Mario (or Kris Brown/ Pitts if you want to include an original like TexanSam).

My picks?

Bob McNair - As you said, there isn't any team without him.

Andre Johnson - Heart & soul of the Offense who has the whole league watching HIM now.

Chester Pitts - EVERY Game, it's as simple as that.

Mario Williams - Not as knee-jerk as it seems. Should have been a two-time Pro Bowler at this point and he hasn't reached his potential yet.
 
I didn't know non-players could be included. If that's the case, then McNair probably deserves a spot.

Bob McNair- owner and founder
AJ- best player on the team and been there for most of the team's existence
Kubiak- coach who turned team into a perennial winner
Mario- obvious, the landmark decision at the turning point of the organization

You do realize we haven't had a winning season yet, correct?
 
I'd like to go with Kubiak but as of today, even though I think it will happen that he turns this team into a winner, as of today, Pitts is more "historic" for the Texans. Put it this way, if the Texans don't get any better and Kubiak is gone 2 or 3 years from now and we never get a winning season or make the playoffs then his place in our history will be much smaller than we hope it will be. Chester Pitts on the other hand, win or loose, was here from day one and has played in every singe game since the inception of the Texans. That is historical already.

McNair, - without him we're not even having this discussion
Johnson, - the best player the Texans have ever had
Mario, - the draft pick that put us on the map
Pitts - history in the making in our short, short history

I'll go along with that. I'm a little seriousness I'd add Kris Brown, McNair, and Pitts. (crowded up there)

Showtime's honorary Rushmore? (players that can bring a smile to my face) Vonta Leach, Steve Slayton, Owen Daniels, Billy Miller.

Who should be assigned to the crew that has to scrape pigeon crap off their faces? Petey Faggins.

What would a Texans Mt.Rushmore be without Sage Rosenfels? I think he needs a mountain all by himself. I think the Rosencopter would be a good monument to him.

perennial winner? really? umm i must have missed something but kubiak has a losing record as our coach and has yet to have a winning season much less be a perennial winner.

sometimes i just have to wonder about the grasp of reality around here...
 
The team is too young for a 4 headed Rushmore, I'll go with McNair and AJ...

The carvers can start blasting Mario with a little more longevity.

sometimes I wonder about the comprehension and reading skills of people around here.

First of all, that issue was addressed in subsequent posts. Second, it's pretty clear that the post was a little forward-looking. Once again, leave it to you to sniff out any optimism and attempt to squash it. If you pay attention to the people you read and respond to, you would know that I have a grasp on our W/L record along with pretty much anything else you want to know about the team.

The first three are obvious but it is the spirit and tenacity of the Die Hard Texans fans that make the team what it is.

We desearve to be there just as much as any player. We will be there long after the team is no longer with the McNairs and the players have retired, or left.

I can agree with JT's list. I've never been really high on kickers, but that son of a gun has probably pulled out more W's than anyone else, so far. Plus, he ain't skeered to attempt a slobber-knocker or two. Notice I said attempt. :winky:

Domanick Davis - The first player that the fans really fell in love with and rallied around (remember all of us voting for rookie of the week and year).

PS and if I had to have a fourth it would be Billy Miller strecthing out over the goal line.
 
Bob Mcnair - COURAGE to get football back to Houston, and pick Mario Williams when the whole world wanted either RB or VY.

Chester Pitts - PRIDE. If there were anyone on the team that is proud to be a Texan it is this guy. Started every game since day one and only wants what's best for the team.

Mario Williams - INDEPENDENCE. Mario represents that the Texans are commited to doing what is best for the team regardless of what the outside world thinks. The fact that it was pretty much him against the world and he has come out on top says alot.

Andre Johnson - TRADITION AND STRENGTH. Andre is the traditional football player who brings a lunch pail mentality to the practice field and the game. He is the corner stone of what this team has tried to encompass over the past 7 years, the player that asks what is he not doing first before pointing fingers at everyone else. He IS the strength of this franchise.

runners up: Kris Brown, Dunta Robinson and Demeco Ryans
 
I don't see the love for Kris Brown. He's been good, but not amazing. No way is he on the same level as someone like AJ

My money sez they'll be: New York, Mass., Pennsylvania, Florida, and California.

I'd only have 3 for now as well.

McNair, AJ, and Mario would be those 3, but I'd have crews on the mountain getting ready and waiting for word to carve Steve Slaton into it.

Then I'd have the Kris Brown monument and the Chester Pitts museum.

Bob McNair - Brought football back to Houston. He is a given. He is our George Washington.

Andre Johnson - The best Texan we have ever had and our future first hall of famer.

Mario Williams - The guy that everyone gave us crap about who turned out to be one of our smartest picks. Our best defensive player to date.

Now it gets tough.

Domanick Davis? Our first real RB?
Gary Kubiak? Even though hes only taken us to 8-8?
DeMeco Ryans? Great rookie. Has been solid.. but not a notable player for us.
Dunta Robinson? Despite his injury?

Here is my pick:

Chester Pitts - He has played every snap since 2002.. been our most solid lineman.. and is probably our 3rd most nationally recognized player behind Andre and Mario. Hes done the superbowl commercials..the Ellen show.. yah I know he may not have made the biggest impact on the field.. but he has been a rock for us... a dependable above average player.

Kris Brown has been here from day one also.

My list:

Bob McNair, for obvious reasons
AJ. I think we all hope and pray that when the time comes, he retires a TEXAN. Representing our offense
Kris Brown: An original, and I think our highest scorer. Representing Special teams.
Demeco Ryans: The heart and soul of our defense. Leader, believer, motivator, never gives up, plays even when injured, greatly admired by everyone. Representing our defense.
