Battle Red Nation Rumors

So I decided to check out Scout.com's Battle Red Nation.com and threw down a few bucks to see what sort of coverage they do in the off-season.

A few things that may be of interest:

Texans interested in Peppers and Peppers wants out of Carolina, although Peppers wants to play in a 3-4 a chance playing opposite Mario would be a great opportunity.

Team officials say they are regretting the signing of Reeves and if the Texans draft a CB early Reeves days as a Texan are numbered

Texans have had intense interviews with Wake Forest Safety Chip Vaughn and Oklahoma Safety/Linebacker Nic Harris

Although the WR position is solid Texans have shown interest in Juaquin Iglesias of Oklahoma and Derrick Williams of Penn State.
**I think this might be a clue that Jacoby's days as a Texan are numbered because both are return specialist**

That's it for now, I will come back and post some more news, just reading through some stuff. I am not sure on the track record of the reporting, if anyone uses or has used it let me know.
 
Getting Peppers would be huge for the defense!! Also I am very high on Nic Harris so possibly drafting him is very exciting. In addition drafting a WR like Williams would definetely help out in the return game and help stretch the field, but we can't go to high for a WR as it is not a big need at all.
 
All interesting prospects.

I really think that Sean Smith from Utah could be an interesting 2nd round pick for the Texans if he were there. He played CB, but many scouts project him to move to safety. He could obviously play both and since we have a strong need at S and another need at CB, he seems like he could be a really good guy to bring in and help out the secondary.

I don't want to offer a long term high $ contract to Peppers. If we could get him for two years.... not sure if last season was due to contract year or not.
 
People are saying they don't want julius Peppers on our team are crazy this guy is one of the premier pass rushers and the league and they are talking about not giving him a long term contract sounds crazy to me. I say lay it out for Peppers and lock up Mario Williams and draft for best player available in the first round.

The articles about Peppers in the 3-4 doesn't make it sound like he really wants to wants to play in the scheme--rather that he is open to it.

Equals keeping more bidders available for his services. So many defenses run the 3-4 base these days.

I also am starting to like Smith and having Williams as a WR would be freaking awesome, as I am tired of using picks in project players that cant stop fumbling.
 
I'm glad we're interviewing Chip Vaughn intensively. The more and more I look and read up on him, the more impressive he is. With the Texans set to sign Eugene Wilson with the intention of him being our starting FS, Vaughn would make a great SS. It would be great to have an in the box safety with the athleticism and speed of a FS.

right cos we thought we were getting a lockdown corner.. reeves has been what we expected- a mostly solid, sometimes picked on, sometimes playmaking cb
 
It would almost be unfair. Imagine if the Texans are able to sign Peppers. The options that one action creates for us in the draft round 1 are exciting.

Go NT. Or LB. Or CB. Or trade back, to pick up a safety (or CB, or LB) and picks. (I guess I am also excited by the prospect of actually having a 2nd round pick again.)

The world does not end if we fail to sign Peppers, but it is not hard to get overstimulated by the thought of Mario and Peppers meeting at the QB.
 
If we sign Peppers odds are that we have to give up our 1st round pick. I am not at all opposed to that, our defense is in sore need of playmakers and I think that the FO knows the fans are tired of waiting for a winner. If they have to give up a 1st for a proven playmaker in the prime of his career so we become a winner then so be it. Smithiak has proven they can find players in the later rounds, why not use the 1st on someone proven instead of giving a rookie that kind of cash without knowing what we're getting?

You also have the OU logo as your avatar. I think you might hold a slight bias. I think he is going to be a "tweener" between SS and OLB. I like him as a player, but I'm not THAT into him to spend a second round pick. If you are talking 2nd round, I can take an actual OLB or an actual SS.
 
I see him as the kind of guy that the Patriots would want, as they tend to pick players that can play more than one position. I also feel that is why they could either go with Sean Smith or DJ Moore.
 
at first i was kinda opposed to signing peppers cause we will have to give up our 1st and maybe more... but just thinking about how beasty our ends would be offenses wouldnt know what to do... they would have to play double tight ends all game... lol i say lets do it... but chances are he will go to a 3-4 team.. so im not counting on him coming to h-town

I admit that I am biased, but I dont see him as a tweener. He is a legit SS, and has the size to be a legit OLB.

I love how the guy makes plays. I'm not trying to rag on the guy as a football player. I just see him as a Michael Boluware type of player, and I have a hard time declaring a value for what I view as a tweener.
 
A player that caught a few eyes during the Senior bowl and is getting attention from AFC South teams such as the Texans and the Jags and also the Bears among others is Andy Levitre from Oregon State. He is 6'3" 306 lbs and is a versatile lineman that is projected to play guard at the next level and be selected in the 3rd round. I honestly don't know too much about the guy who is definitely overshadowed by Unger/Mack, but an upgrade on the interior line would be great!

In an effort to learn more about Levitre and what kind of future might be in front of him as a professional, Bear Report obtained a full scouting report on him from Scout.com Oregon State expert Barry Bolton:

The Skinny: Levitre does everything well. In the USC win, he was regularly seen blocking his man seven yards downfield. As a pass blocker, he has great feet and led a line that allowed just 1.62 sacks per game. He has excellent balance and strength.

On and Off the Field: Athleticism and versatility are overused terms in scouting reports, but the 6-2.5, 317-pound Levitre excelled at each guard and tackle spot over his career at Oregon State, where he made 34 consecutive starts. As for coachability, offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh doesn't dish out praise lightly, and he's said Levitre is simply the best lineman he has ever coached over his time in the game.

Bolton Says: Early indications suggest that Levitre will go somewhere in the second round, but he could move up or down from that depending on how he performs at the upcoming NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this February. A writer from Sports Illustrated thinks he may have slid based on his Senior Bowl performance to as far as Round 4, but other reports indicate Levitre had a very good week down in Mobile and helped himself.

I recently read about the same things somewhere recently but did not register as I don't see us taking a guard. Sounds like a player to me.

I just got back to the country and am slowly catching up on all the news. Dunta being tagged, TMac out for the season, etc.

Just checked in on some combine interviews and a few players the Texans set some time to visit with are:

Also a FA name drop - Chauncey Davis a FA DE from the Falcons

these are the ones from the list I figure the Texans are targeting at # 15 or with a trade down. Aside from Maclin, we can see the obvious theme. BPA would be Jenkins who isn't likely to fall to 15. IMO, we're gonna pick Bruce's nephew and i'm gonna enjoy watching him wreak havoc with DeMeco!!!
 
I will be estatic if we get Everette Brown and Rashad Johnson on the first day.

I like William Moore also, but I will take Rashad (I think he's safer because of his versatility and his football IQ).
 
I realy like Iglesias but i dont kno much about the other reciever... i wouldnt mind gettin Iglesias in the later rounds but i wouldnt want to see Jacoby gone. he has shown flashes of greatness on punt returns but he just tries to do too much sometimes having iglesias will add depth to an already deep recieving core but he has great potential and can be insurance incase we lose someone in seasons to come

I also like rashad but i would rather take Moore because of the chance of him playin at the level he did his junior year. he has big time steal potential. hopefully we can get him in the second

I'd love him on the roster. there are a few of us however who are reading the cap numbers for 2010 and wondering just how the heck are they're going to swing a high end veteran and re-doing Mario's contract. Not saying, just saying.

And if you bring him just for the year....aren't you going to have the same old Jason Babin hole we've had for three years next off season ? not sayng. just saying.

Just a big 'ol lump of clay waiting for the right coach to mold him. More than a work out warrior....team first guy who was asked to move to DE his senior season. Not only did it , but dominated the conference at the position. So the gamble with him is can you coach him up to drop in coverage with in the next six months after the draft. Wanna catch the Colts ? That's the type of athlete we should be looking for. Worst case, he comes in to spell Antonio Smith on passing downs. Best case he does learn to drop into coverage. He beats out Adibi or Diles out of camp. Diles or Adbi spells him.

Yep

I would take the chance.

Matthews who seems to be the consensus favorite @15 doesn't have much experience dropping into coverage either.

I wouldn't have a problem with Mattews or Barwin.

I like Barwin better because he should have a better idea of how to cover the TE since he used to be a TE. Obviously he has the better hands.
 
Use Barwin like Belichick uses Vrabel and or Troy Brown. Use him both on offense and defense. Situational pass rusher and as a TE.

You know, getting Peppers here would be insane. Our whole d-line will be over 280 pounds. He'll probably go to the patriots though.

I'm high on William Moore too. If we can get him in the 2nd round it will be the steal of the draft. He's a great player who had a down year because of injury. He may not be a free safety but he could be the next polamalu or adrian wilson.

I don't think he will ever be like those guys because he doesn't tackle well enough.

I think if everything falls right he could be a less talented version of Kerry Rhodes. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I am assuming they are talking about Derrick Williams (WR, Penn State)? He is on the list Warren posted.

Anyone got any news on this front? I cant find any info on visits lately.
