What do you guys think out us trying for J Peppers from the Carolina Panthers. He wants out because of the defensive coach so if we could get our hands on him we could FINALLY get the pressure we've been trying to on the QB's and then some. between him and Mario it would be no stopping them.

According to the chronicle he wants to play in a 3-4 defense...so that pretty much rules us out.

"What if dog was spelled c-a-t?"

Seriously, I would love to have Julius opposite Mario, but I just don't see it happening. Damn you David Carr!!! :bat:

the chance to right a wrong is compelling :texflag:

anything is possible. he is a talent worth the price tag. still can improve & seems to want to still work hard to achieve his goals. I'm going to forget for a moment how much the Texans have invested in the DL & say if he fits Bush plans & there are moveable parts it would change this defense as we've known it forever :voodoo:

I'm not doubting that the chronicle reported that. I'm just curious if its true. As we've all witnessed first hand during the first 4 years of the Texans, 3-4 lineman dont stack up the stats. Why would Peppers want to play in a 3-4??

I would love to have Peppers here. I bet Carolina franchises him and asks for a 1st and a 3rd to let him go. The only way I'd pull the trigger on that is if we found a way to aquire another 2nd or 3rd round pick to make up for the one we lost trading for Peppers.

My fantasy draft would be trading our 1st for JP. Drafting the highest rated DB (preferably saftey) in the second. Landing that Johnson RB from Colorado State in the 3rd.

Things could and probablly will change as the draft nears but finding a way to sure up our DLine and secondary has to be a top priority no matter what.

I think ... Peppers would want to be an OLB in the 34.

The Texans aren't going to spend that kind of money.

I think Peppers would be worth it though. Him on the other side of Mario would be fantastic. Peppers should have several years left to play.

Maybe the idea of playing opposite of Mario could change his mind. I would be highly surprised if Kubiak and Rick Smith pulled this deal off.

He is looking for his final big pay day. 4 year deal with a huge signing bonus. That is why he doesnt want to be franchised. Because he knows his value is only going down from here. Thats the way I see it.

He has said he wants to go to a team that will allow him to grow from being a great player to being an elite player.

To me, that means he's looking at the Giants, the Eagles, the Steelers, the Ravens, or the Titans.

God, don't let it be the Titans.

Heck, the 1st round is such a crapshoot these days, and Peppers is a sure thing.

Do you think its worth trading our 1st pick and probably killing our salary cao for Julius Peppers?

With Mario and Julius on our D-Line, who needs a secondary?

I would say yes but it all depends on if we could extend his contract and marios contract and if we would be fine to resign demeco. The question I have if we are going to spend those type of dollars who would you trade for Julius Peppers or Terrell Suggs?

Until Julius Peppers is a Texan, or at least visits, let's keep him in the NFL forum.

I think that effectively invokes the Curse of Bud. It is definitely going to be the Titans now.

The titans don't play a 3-4 and he wants to stand up in the rush back position. I think its crazy but sillier things have happened.

What first rounder? They don't got no stinkin' first rounder...

ummm the panthers arent just gonna let peppers go.... they will franchise him and put the 2 first rounders for tender... so its not worth it...we can get another good pass rusher in the 2-3rd round in the draft

This quote from the foxsports.com story is compelling.

What is Peppers' agent doing in Houston, and why is the Panthers' GM also in Houston at the same time?

Did the GM fly out to Houston to catch the agent, an intervention meeting of sorts, to interfere with a potential deal? I thought talks coud not begin until Feb. 26th.

I just wonder why this went down in Houston. I could see that the agent might be meeting with other clients in Houston, but why is the Panthers' GM in Houston???

Here's the quote (link follows the quote):

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney, who was informed of Peppers' decision in a meeting with Carey (the agent) in Houston on Thursday, did not return phone calls Saturday but released a statement through a team spokesman.

By the way: He says it doesn't have to be a 3-4...it can be any opportunity to flourish. Being on the same line as Mario and Okoye is a good start.

Shriner's game??? :chickendance:

I don't think you'll see Peppers on the Texans next year. It'd be nice, but I can't see it happening.

I think Peppers wants to be a Baltimore Raven. His comments about playing in a system where he can take his skills to the next level and about wanting to play in a 3-4 defense have me believing more and more that he wants to play in Baltimore. I'm sure he wants a ring as much or more than anything. I don't think a big payday is "unimportant" to him, I just think he'd play for reasonable bank for a chance to be part of their defense because he thinks they're going to go to the Super Bowl next year.

That's just my guess.

Imagine him next to DeMarcus Ware.

Who is going to be the DC for the Ravens now though? How much of that defensive staff is going to NY with Ryan? I don't think that much will change, certainly not in 1 off-season, but it should be interesting to see if they can keep up their dominance post Ryan. Also, Ray Lewis certainly has some more years left in him but hes no spring chicken. With Flacco might they be tempted to build the other side of the ball more than in the past?

Herv, you think Baltimore is still in the picture with Ryan gone now?

Didn't see that Jackie Chiles basically stated the same thing.

Absolutely. Ryan's a great DC but he's only had the job for 5 years there. They've been tough a lot longer than that and so he'll be replaced by someone from his staff that will keep things going. Before him it was Mike Nolan and Marvin Lewis and I'm sure people wondered if they'd be able to keep it going when each of those guys left.

Ray Lewis is Baltimore's defensive coordinator.

To some degree I'd say that's true. He's probably got more input than most players in the league and he's without a doubt the heart of that unit. Whoever is technically "the brain" isn't much good without the support of Lewis. He probably has as much influence over that defense as Peyton Manning has over his offense.
