I was thinking about the other day. That would make our offense damn difficult to deal with. First you have to deal with Crabtree and AJ outside. Then you have to deal with the Mismatches Walter would create from the slot. OD in the seams and oh yeah Steve Slaton running and out of the backfield. That is a nightmare for DCs around the league. If somehow he fell here I sure hope we wouldn't pass on that.http://sidelinescouting.com/blog/mock-draft/
This one has us taking Crabree at 15. Can you imagine AJ, Schaub, Slaton, and Crabtree?

playoffs are all about turnovers, produced by offense generated by defenseJudging from the playoffs, especially from teams like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, etc., I would much rather have a dominant defense. An average offense paired with a great defense wins Super Bowls. A great offense with an average defense might win games but will almost assuredly get knocked out when it counts the most.
Well .... they have vontae davis going at pick 14 ... and 16, he's going to make BANK signing 2 contracts.http://sidelinescouting.com/blog/mock-draft/

That thing's awesome! When I did it, they had our picks as:
Maybe it knows we are going to sign Julius Peppers! That thing's awesome! When I did it, they had our picks as:
1) Taylor Mays- FS, USC
2) Darius Butler- CB, Connecticut
3) Rashad Jennings- RB, Liberty
I think I would love that draft but we didn't address our DL which I think is critical... at least our secondary should be completely finished and Slaton has a nice partner.
My gawd, that would solve a lot of problems! Marinelli would be kicking himself in the rear. Being able to coach a DL of Mario Williams, Amobi Okoye and Julius Peppers!? LOLMaybe it knows we are going to sign Julius Peppers!
I ran it and got the same thing. I would love that draft but if I was going to cherry pick, and I am, Im going Alex Mack in the second. OH yeh and sign Peppers as a free agent to address the DL!That thing's awesome! When I did it, they had our picks as:
1) Taylor Mays- FS, USC
2) Darius Butler- CB, Connecticut
3) Rashad Jennings- RB, Liberty

Dang... that would be a majorly awesome draft. I would LOVE it.I
Wow I just noticed Raji is available at 15. I have to change my cherry.
1st.) Raji
2nd.) Mack
3rd.) Jennings
FA.) Peppers.
Mario Raji Okoye Peppers
I edited the draft simulator . I kept Taylor Mays but I changed the 2nd round pick to Shonn Green and it then gave me CB Keenan Lewis in the 3rd .Dang... that would be a majorly awesome draft. I would LOVE it.
Another option would be:
1) Taylor Mays- S
2) Alex Mack- C or Shonn Greene- RB
3) Ron Brace- DT (the other run stuffing Boston College DT)
If you take Mack in the 2nd, we could probably find a decent RB in the 4th.
I like Mays and Green but think we can use Mays to bait a trade down with more bang for our buck.I edited the draft simulator . I kept Taylor Mays but I changed the 2nd round pick to Shonn Green and it then gave me CB Keenan Lewis in the 3rd .
http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57600Everyone is saying Peppers will be franchised but that should be a whole lot of $. Can someone give me useful info on the DT B.J. Raji? His team mate Ron Brace a D tackle has had 26 tackles and 2 QB sacks last two years but is never mentioned. If he could be had at a lower round, Brace may resolve our stop the run weakness & save us a 1st round. Brace is 22 YOA, 6'3" 324 lbs and is a senior. Info on either would be appreciated. Steve
I will agree with that, Brace is more like a 3rd to 4th round NT. Not a 1st round type.Agreed Ron Brace would be a good pick up in 2nd/3rd... maybe even 4th? but, to me, he seems much more one dimensional than Raji.
Brace is not an option IMO. I dont see him getting drafted before the 5th round. He is pretty much just a big body. Doesnt get pushed back but that is about the extint of his abilities. We already have Okam for that.http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57600
I really like Raji b/c he has great size and quickness, very good at stopping the run but possesses an uncanny ability to get in the backfield for a guy his size. I've read different different reports on his actual TFL and sacks for the season (nfldraftcountdown is on the high side of those). 16 TFL and 8 sacks, he's just overshadowed Brace.
Agreed Ron Brace would be a good pick up in 2nd/3rd... maybe even 4th? but, to me, he seems much more one dimensional than Raji.
Jenkins, Davis, then LaurinaitisWell ... at 15 if this is our choices ... who do you take ?
Michael Oher OT 6-5, 320 Mississippi
Malcolm Jenkins CB 6-0, 180 Ohio State
Chris Wells RB 6-0, 240 Ohio State (X)
Vontae Davis CB 6-0, 205 Illinois
Rey Maualaga LB 6-2, 250 USC
Jeremy Maclin WR 6-0, 200 Missouri
Jason Smith OT 6-4, 300 Baylor
Alphonso Smith CB 5-9, 195 Wake Forest
Eugene Monroe OT 6-5, 315 Virginia
Knowshon Moreno RB 5-10, 207 Georgia
James Laurinaitis LB 6-2, 245 Ohio State
Will Moore FS 6-0, 230 Missouri (X)
I did the draft simulator and locked out Taylor Mays and it gave the Texans Brett Stafford .Jenkins, Davis, then Laurinaitis
Malcolm Jenkins. Easy.Well ... at 15 if this is our choices ... who do you take ?
Michael Oher OT 6-5, 320 Mississippi
Malcolm Jenkins CB 6-0, 180 Ohio State

First off it will be a major shock (to me at least) if Jenkins, Oher and Monroe are still available at 15. If all 3 are still there you have to go Oher. You just dont pass on FRANCHISE LT's.Malcolm Jenkins. Easy.
Though I agree, my thinking here is that we have a possible franchise LT in Brown. He wasn't all-world last year but he was solid as a rookie in a very tough division for tackles.First off it will be a major shock (to me at least) if Jenkins, Oher and Monroe are still available at 15. If all 3 are still there you have to go Oher. You just dont pass on FRANCHISE LT's.
Teams do it with franchise LT's, franchise QB's, franchise whatevers all the time if they feel like they have a young prospective whatever on the roster already.First off it will be a major shock (to me at least) if Jenkins, Oher and Monroe are still available at 15. If all 3 are still there you have to go Oher. You just dont pass on FRANCHISE LT's.
Malcolm Jenkins. Easy.
I'd love to add Oher as our LT and move Brown to RG or RT. That would really mask Myers deficiencies and we'd have a KILLER running game.First off it will be a major shock (to me at least) if Jenkins, Oher and Monroe are still available at 15. If all 3 are still there you have to go Oher. You just dont pass on FRANCHISE LT's.
Everyone of the GM's has the image of him shaking off the Texas defenders and winning the game with an exhausted clock branded in their brains. He ain't getting out of the top ten. Even if he runs a 4.6. Remind us all again what Jerry Rice ran at the combine ? The guy's got skills. How far do you guys think Crabtree will fall if he runs a 4.6 in the 40 yard dash?
Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is a hell of a receiver and I think he will excel in the NFL but I just don't think he has the kind of straight line speed that is going to dazzle the scouts at the combine.
I have a gut feeling that his stock is going to take a big hit after he gets clocked at the combine or on his pro day.
That's nice beerlover....but once you get past a certain level, like the first forty six picks....there are only so many first step guys on the board. Unless the scouts find some Gem in the third round or later....or they free agent the pass rusher....you ain't getting one if you BPA the first two rounds. And this regime cannot go into '09 with out one.Whether it's a LB they can blitz or a smaller DE with a first step, they've got to have one. They'll gamble if they have to....but they have to have one if they are to have any chance at winning the division in '09. And everyone over on Kirby should know that.you should never pass on BPA unless another team proposes a trade scenero to good to resist regardless of needs, its that clear cut.
Top 10 picks-
1) Eugene Monore, OT 6-5 Virginia
2) Michael Oher OT 6-5, 320 Mississippi
3) Malcolm Jenkins CB 6-0, 180 Ohio State
Top 15 picks-
4) Rey Maualaga MLB 6-2 250 USC
5) Jason Smith OT 6-4 300 Baylor
Top 20 picks- Texans range
6) Vontae Davis CB 6-0 205 Illinios
7) Knowshon Moreno RB 5-10 207 Georgia
1st rd. grades-
8) Chris Wells RB 6-0, 240 Ohio State
9) Jeremy Maclin WR 6-0, 200 Missouri
10) Alphonso Smith CB 5-9, 195 Wake Forest
11) James Laurinaitis LB 6-2, 245 Ohio State
12) Will Moore FS 6-0, 230 Missouri (trade down)
also, see I told y'all -15 Houston Texans: Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois
This could be a spot where the Texans trade down. Their greatest needs this offseason are strong safety, guard, nose tackle and a 4-3 end to complement Mario Williams. Taking the best player at each of those four positions would be reaching.
If Houston can't find a trading partner, they may look at Vontae Davis. You can never have enough talented corners, and it's not like the Texans couldn't use an upgrade at the position. Davis is probably the top player available anyway, so I think this is Houston's best option considering the circumstances.
28 Philadelphia Eagles: Louis Delmas, FS, Western Michigan
Brian Dawkins is adored by all Eagles fans, but the future Hall of Fame free safety turns 36 in October. Even if Dawkins re-signs with Philadelphia, the team will need to find his successor soon because he's somewhat of a liability in coverage. It's clear that Quintin Demps isn't the answer after his horrific performance in the NFC Championship.
Louis Delmas has really shined at the Senior Bowl and put himself into first-round consideration.
http://walterfootball.com/draft2009matt.php15 Houston Texans: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
I really think the Texans could release Anthony Weaver this offseason after he failed to generate a single sack in 2008. Left defensive end becomes a need here and Jackson is the top one currently on the board. Watch out, because the Texans might take a shocker pick in Rashad Johnson or Louis Delmas at free safety.
either way looks like Beerlover gets his guy46 Houston Texans: Louis Delmas, S, Western Michigan
Will Demps was benched for Nick Ferguson, and Texans beat writer John McClain does not think Ferguson will be back. Free safety is a huge need and Delmas can be the captain of the defensive backfield the Texans have always lacked. This pick also greatly helps out Tyson Jackson (previous pick), Mario Williams, and Amobi Okoye to generate more coverage sacks.
Previous pick; Patrick Chung, S
I am not sure that your boy Delmas makes it into round 2. I currently have him at the top of the Safety class. If he slid though he would be a HUGE steal. I am also not a huge Tyson Jackson fan. I don't think he did that much last year and does not come across to me as a worthy first rounder.there's a more than one guy over there, here is the new one from Matt McGuire- http://walterfootball.com/draft2009matt.php

Texans mock? I'm not as big with just doing one team mocks as I am with 32 team mocks, but I look forward to seeing who you got the Texans picking.I am not sure that your boy Delmas makes it into round 2. I don't want to hijack the thread, but I did want to plug the fact that my latest Texans mock will be posted this week. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Just as a teaser, I have a potential surprise pick for the Texans in round 1....
I'm begining to think the guy Walter hates our guts.=Honoring Earl 34;1109974

So at the eighteen....English works for the Bears but not the Texans at the 15 ?18. Chicago Bears: Larry English, DE, Northern Illinois
Larry English is made for the 3-4, but I think he could definitely work well in a Tampa-2 4-3 scheme. English's stock is on fire after an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl.
Well one thing about tyson jackson....he can't be any worse than what they already have at the slot.there's a more than one guy over there, here is the new one from Matt McGuire- http://walterfootball.com/draft2009matt.php
either way looks like Beerlover gets his guy
It looks decent enough for the most part.
