The Cowboys have released Pacman Jones

DiehardChris

You betcha!
Saw this at Rotoworld.

LOL, that didn't work out so well, did it? Now if Jerrah can also get up the gumption to cut T.O., they might actually start turning the tide of that poisonous locker room.

ESPN said:
IRVING, Texas -- Troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was released by the Dallas Cowboys following a season in which he was suspended six games for an off-field fight.

The announcement came Wednesday, but the transaction will not become official until Feb. 9, the first day NFL teams can make waiver requests.

The Cowboys traded for Jones before the season even though he had been suspended for the 2007 season because of a series of off-field incidents.

He missed six games this season for violating the league's player conduct policy after an Oct. 7 scuffle with a team bodyguard at a Dallas hotel. He missed a seventh game with an injury.

Jones averaged just 4.6 yards per punt return and had no interceptions.

Please...don't even think of suggesting it.

Heh. They didn't release him because they'd had enough. .. they released him because they had no choice. He's going to be banned from the NFL for life.

Pacman arranged to have three guys shot at shortly after he was suspended.

I'm not so sure about that. A ban for life certainly would have a tremendous impact on Pacman the professional football player. His performance on and off the field was less than inspiring. He was given a second chance, and IMO, did not or could not take advantage of it. I haven't read any comments to indicate anyone in the Cowboys fan base being surprised or sad regardless of what else may have come up about any off the field antics. However, it could serve as the perfect excuse.

The guy's one year out of football made him lose that spark he had before. Myself and most Cowboy fans hated him going back for a punt because his average was horrible and other guys had better averages. He did decent in the secondary but was by no means a guy we had to have.

As far as the release....the guy was hurt, he was not playing well and not many teams willw ant him if any. With the money he has left and maybe no more NFL..............HIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN......strippers get ready at the "scrip club." All heck is about to break loose. I give it less than a month.

What an amazing turd. Leaving the NFL no poorer for his passing on Pacman heads off into the sunset to his life of incarceration.

Didn't dallas give up a 3rd or 4th round pick for him?

And 3 to Detroit for Roy Williams?

Thats Casserlyish stuff there.

He's too much trouble and not enough return.

Too bad for him; he's been given all the opportunities in the world.

I wonder if the Cowboys will now give the NFL permission to give Pacman his lifetime ban. :specnatz:

Isn't it more appropriate to say that Pacman is (possibly)giving the NFL permission for a lilfetime ban? I will remove the "possibly" when and/or if the reports prove to be valid.

I really feel bad for Pac. Product of bad upbringing, no true family, and a world that just adds to his confusion, through it's own ways of taking advantage of all people. I pray he stays out of trouble and restores the life that he has left. There is more to life than football, and he needs to address all these other aspects first and foremost. :foottap:

I would feel sorry for him, except for this:
Ed Werder of ESPN reports that Jones’ release came after the team became aware of allegations that Jones arranged for someone to shoot at three men outside an Atlanta strip club.

Almost every time this guy has gotten in trouble its been at a strip club. Fool me once, and all that business. Social upbringing can only screw you up so far. At some point, plain old stupidity kicks in

I agree....But his social upbringing seed has only fueled and added to his overall addiction. As most know, addiction comes in many forms. For some, Alcohol, drugs, eating, and let's face it, his is strip clubs/"social pornography" and the excitement that comes along with it. His deviate activities add to another main problem, anger and his not being able to control it. All addictions stem from another underlying issue, that needs to be addressed, but is often suppressed. His social upbringing is the main seed. If he can get back to that area of his life, accept his lack there of, and look at the blessings God has permitted, regardless of his past, he may be able to move on. He's not much different than the rest of us. He just acts out in a far more violent manner. I'm not justifying his allegedly placing "hits" out on people, but eventually that fruit, from the seed placed long ago, will rear it's ugly head. For him, it comes in fighting. For others, killing their wives, kids, family members ,and the company secretary with their words. Both slice at the heart of a person. The question is, which one is worst. The one that kills quick or or the one that kills slower? Both Kill.:gun:

I understand what you're saying. And I think you have a good point. I think the thing that makes me so frustrated about him in comparison to other people with similar past situations is that Jones has access to an almost unlimited amount of help and resources. The NFL, his money, his agent, his teammmates are all there to give him help and advice. He has been through and been given access to some of the very best advice and rehabilitation services possible.

So, yes, I do feel for him a little bit because clearly when your dad is murdered at age 4 its a tough thing to get through. But at the same time, when you have what this guy has and you still throw it all away I have a hrd time feeling any sympathy or pity. The guy is a bad person, and I do hope he gets banned for life

These are all excuses for people like him. I was raised in bad social environments in different parts of my life growing up, and I had moments in my life where I chose to involve myself in bad elements. I never chose to make the decisions that Pac Man ever has, and I never had football skills like him to fall back on to tell myself NOT to get into trouble.

There have been tons and tons of athletes in worst conditions than he was in growing up and they are great men. You make your own choices. Being a product of the hood or the ghetto is NEVER an excuse for doing the things that he has done over and over and over.

I don't care why he's gone. It's enough for me that he's gone.

TV blurb said he intends to sue EPSN.

The gave up virtually nothing and that is one good thing Jerry did. Because of his suspension the Titans now owe the Cowboys a 5th rounder. They traded a 4th rounder. So basically the Cowboys move back a round and a year later. Besides chump change, that was it.

Gotta disagree with you on this one pb3.

He definitely is 'different' from most of us, he was given opportunities that most of us can only dream about.

This man has been given many chances to straighten out his act, overcome his 'social upbringing'. I'd venture to say more than you or I would be given.

He was blessed with amazing athletic talent and more money than most on this MB will ever earn.

He is incredibly stupid and self centered. His actions only verify this.

Stupidity is not inherited or caused by osmosis from your surroundings, its an accumulation of bad/wrong thinking/actions.

Many of us come from less than ideal circumstances, but we don't become criminals. Gods' blessings to pac man included a free will, he made his own choices.

I don't hate the man, but I certainly will not find reasons to justify his actions either.

" Kill with words? " Words can only hurt if you let them, but bullets give you no choice in the matter.

I am a firm believer in second chances, but not a lifetime pass.

:coffee:

You know, I sarcastically refer to people as stupid from time to time. However, I think Adam Jones really is stupid. I mean, I think he has a brain disorder. He is incapable of learning. The whole "upbringing" argument only goes so far, and addresses morals, norms, etc. Even an animal learns when something hurts to stop doing it. I really think he's mentally challenged or something. It's sad, actually.

I agree. You can have a bad background but when the wash shakes out you got 1) to go to college to play football and to learn(if you wanted to);

2) to play pro footbal and make a ton of money

3) you've had many arrests and issues and yet the lucky rabbits foot really worked and none of it stuck

4) you've had 2nd, 3rd.....8th chances..where all you had to do was enjoy your wealth, play a game and finally GET it. You've had rich owners have your back.

Many people outside his pro lifestyle would have trouble with one DWI and the arrests, fines, etc that go with it. This guy was given every chance to get more than his share of chances and just couldn't and wouldn't learn. The sad part is that I thought his one suspension this year was actually a good year for him.

I am not going to call the man stupid, but there is certainly something going on in his mindset that is not functioning rationally. The blessing for many is that most of us realize that some of our decisions have been poor, and take measures to correct them due to experience, reflection or maturity. But I do believe that there are people who are so disconnected from reality that only years of therapy can assist in a shift of behavior and functioning in a reasonable capacity.

I tend to not judge people by how I act or if I made millions of dollars they should do blah, blah, blah. To me it is more a blessing that I am rational enough (I think) that experiences or others and even less desirable my own personal experience was enough to keep my life on track. When a person has the kind of opportunities that Pacman has been given, yet there are still significant deficits, then there seems to be more going on that the average mental capacity can fix.

Hopefully, he can get his life together and take advantage of people trained to assist is situations such as his. Too bad it didn't come at a time that he could positively use his talents in his chosen profession.

If all the above is true...he's a perfect fit for the Cowboys! Just kiddin'. Seriously though I think he might be a little touched in the head. Have you seen the PIMP SUITS that man wears? What sane human being would wear that? I mean OTHER than Texan-Bill?

I love the way black women of my mom's generation rationalize. At some point I'm going to have to introduce you two ma'am. The two of you would probably get along great. Women like yourselves are the reason the bulk of my generation isn't making liscence plates right now. That being said, I have to agree with you. Mr. Jones doesn't realize how truly fortunate he is and makes stupid mistakes. It doesn't nessasarily mean HE'S stupid, it just means he's making dumb decisions.
Like many athletes, he's been coddled for the bulk of his life because of his ability. If you've always been coddled you get a sense of entitlement and unfortunately Mr. Jones ISN'T unique in that. Many athletes of his generation are like that. Quite frankly this generation of pro athlete in general are pampered little princess prima donnas. I have a great deal of respect for gents like Andre Johnson, Okoye, Mario Williams and Marvin Harrison because they play the game with a great deal of humility.

Goodell was talking last pre-season about penalties for teams that sign players with previous problems that continue to have problems. any teeth to that or will Dallas escape a draft forfeit penalty?

Unless enacted I think it was alot of talk and something to consider. As far as what has been reported, the Cowboys get a 5th rounder back from the Titans and that is it.

My thoughts on this piece of **** has been well documented. I'll add, if he isn't served a lifetime ban from the NFL and another team decides to give him a shot. That team would then turn into one of my most disliked in the NFL.

Put his ass in the chair and fry his dumbass until Colonel Harland Sanders is jealous of how fried he is for all I care.

Ditto there!

I think it's more likely we'll be seeing Adam on "The First 48" in the interrogation room than we will back on the field in the NFL.

Thank you kindly.

I think Pacman's situation goes well beyond a coddled prima donna. I need to check the DSM-IV and see if I can find an explanation.

I still don't know how he got a 4 game suspension after he'd already been disciplined with a full year suspension.

He was on a zero tolerance reinstatement of an indefinite suspension. Then he went out and got into a fight with one of the guys handled to keep him out of trouble.

It is like if you are speeding on I-45 and get a ticket, you turn into your subdivision and run a stop-sign, you get another ticket. Does not matter that you already got a ticket earlier you did something else wrong so you get another ticket.

This is not a blast at you Tex, but this tends to be the casual response of many people. Tex, what do you mean "people like him?" I never mentioned ghettos? Hoods? Etc...I said he was raised in a bad situation. There are many that are raised in bad situations and it has nothing to do with the physical environment. I was referring to the mental, emotional, and spiritual lack thereof that is completely evident in pac's life. With that being said, these are the key elements that can raise any man out of his situation.
I was raised in a nice little neighborhood, but no one in the neighborhood knew the true social, mental and emotional ideals my entire family was dealing with. From the outside, we were a middle class family, on the inside we were struggling on welfare, limited resources, and a broken home that turned lives in various negative directions. I for one, never discount what A SINGLE EVENT can do to a person. But, I only credit my spiritual upbringing, my dependence & relationship with Christ for making me and my family to where we are today. Hence, that's why I pray for Adam Jones, because only God can help him. No man, woman, or child. No football career. No fans that turn against you for your every dropped pass, and failure to entertain them temporarily, and gratify their desires will aid this man. No Dr. Phil with his own internal issues. No media that fails to show his humanity and good side. Actually, the worst thing for him is the spotlight. It only forces him to go back to a fantasy world, that has no answer for him. I would love to be-friend the guy, because I would make it my acting effort to introduce him to real life. Not the temporary gratification that many of us, including myself, fall victim too. Again, God Bless you Adam and I pray you turn your life around. Everyone human life is worth it, even if mankind doesn't think so.
