Next Level Scouting acquires Information on the Texans draft

Supposedly heres how things shake out.

The Texans are targeting 8 players to take at #13.

In No Particular Order:

1) Derrick Johnson, LB Texas
2) Shawne Merrimen, LB Maryland
3) Carnell Williams, RB Auburn
4) Ronnie Brown, RB Auburn
5) Cedric Benson, RB Texas
6) Mike Williams, WR USC
7) Troy Williamson, WR South Carolina
8) Braylon Edwards, WR Michigan

This, coupled along with probable picks of Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith, Antrel Rolle, and Pac Man Jones makes this 12 players that are probable to go in the top 12 picks. Up on the clock, the Houston Texans.

The rise in stock for Demarcus Ware may put the Texans in a position to select one of the top 8 players on their board. Currently, the money is on Demarcus Ware going to the Cowboys at 11 or Chargers at 12.

This, coupled along with the QB and CB's likely to go in the top 12 would open up room for one of the targeted 8 players for the Texans; where of course they would take that player.

So lets say plan A fails...Maybe Ware does go? or Maybe someone else falls to 13...like Antrel Rolle perhaps?

this is where plan B comes in.

If the Texans trade down, it will be for one reason only, the top 8 on the board are gone.

The more interested the team is in moving up to take a player, the better odds there will be to trade back.

If a trade back does occur, it may behoove the Texans to strike a deal with a team like Cincinnati and move back to take their top Offensive Tackle on the board.

Not Barron
Not Brown

You guessed it, Khalif Barnes out of Washington.

Sorry to ruin the surprise...maybe NL Scouting is bluffing (yea right)

Whether this is the plan or not, one thing is for sure. In around 16 hours, we will know who the newest member of the Houston Texans will be.

Comments?

Im kinda surprised to see Mike Williams in the list of the 8. Thought Cass didn;'t like him all that much.

Plan A would be fine by me, as would Plan B; which may be the better course of action althought not the sexier one.

I guess I'll put the disclaimer up:

This person may have been trying to smoke screen us, but has been extremely reliable in the past.

P.S. Williams wont last to us anyway

This scenario certainly makes a lot of sense, Carlos Rogers could also jump into the top 12 to make their scenario work out.

Interesting that there's no Marcus Spears on the list after McClain was pimping him on the radio today, but nevertheless, I'd be happy with any of those 8...

Of those 8, I'll say again that I'd hope it wasnt C. Williams. Not that he wont be a good back in the NFL, but we already have an undersized, slashing, injury prone back in DD.

Yeah, but Cadillac has home run speed :woot

If you are even going to put Edwards on your list at 13. Why would you bother putting him at 8 behind Williams and Williamson?? Makes no sense to me.

He did say it was in no particular order idonno:

you have a point. and we could still use DD on 3rd down for his hands. I just would prefer a 1-2 punch of a power back and slash back than a slash/slash combo. Its not like I'm gonna boo if they pick Carnell, I would just rather have 1 of the other 7 on the list if at all possible. If he can stay healthy, I see him being very productive in the NFL

I was being halfway sarcastic with that comment...While I wouldn't hate it if we took Cadillac, I would rate him towards the end of that list of 8...I wouldn't mid having DD in a complimentary role if we took someone like Benson, who is more of a power guy, but you're right, Caddy and DD are very similar...

That list is in No Particular order. He could be #1 for all we know. We were given those 8 names

Could be new info? We received this after the Buchannon deal went down, not just now.

I would definetly boo if they pick carnell. I don't even see why he's rated so high. R. Brown seems like the complete back, Benson's never going to be flashy or be a consistent homerun threat, but he will consitently ram it down your throat, wear you down, and give you the tough yards. Carnell seems too questionable to me to be taken that high.

Mike Williams' inclusion in your list makes it a little suspicious. Demarcus Ware's exclusion makes me think he's the pick.

Who are the Bengals targeting in a move up? Everything I've seen about Cincy has them looking to move down, not up.

What have you heard about where Aaron Rodgers lands? If a QB could get to #13 (in front of Carolina), I think teams like Green Bay & maybe Washington at #25 would be interested.

Mike Williams was included and is likely choice #7 of the group (Cadillac being #8)

The Bengals have quietly expressed interest in Antrel Rolle, Pac Man Jones, and Carlos Rogers. If Rolle is there, that very well may be the case. Pac Man, a little less likely, and Rogers they may be able to wait.

You got to feel bad for Aaron Rodgers. He went from #1 pick last week to pulling a Ben Roethlisberger and dropping wayyyy below his expected draft spot. Definately if he reaches 13, a team like Green Bay might try to leapfrog Carolina to get him.

No matter what happens, this is some of the most credible info i could find.

Just doing a little plug: Listen to my boss John Murphy tommorow on Sporting News Radio after the 610 coverage is done with. He'll be on there for the whole weekend as their analyst.

i dont think its a stretch to think davis or barron or clayton could slip into the top 12 either...davis in particular. you'd hate to have to get to "plan b" because its reasonable to believe other teams know our needs etc. kinda decreases the value of a good trade in our favor if our only alternative is to reach.

work those phones charley...

Maybe, but then again, McClain said it would be a choice between Spears and Travis Johnson, who he said would be a dominant NT, so it's pretty evident somebody's blowing smoke up his ***...

I generally don't do this, but you're so quick to point out when you get something right. Guess you're not as quick when you miss.

Just giving you a hard time though. You always come with good info.

To be fair I guessed that we'd take DJ in one of the threads so I was way off base too.

Shame on you texasguy. As a mod you shouldn't point out things like this. I am very dissapointed in you.

Having said that, I will now concede that I was going to do the same thing. :heh:

So McClain does know something. People around here need to give him a little more credit.

What do you think of the Georgia guys Pollack and Thurman winding up on the Bengals together? I figured you'd be doing cartwheels.

rib the company not the messenger haha...oh well, we were likely jipped by the Texans but who knows.

Everyone i've talked to today has said that they didn't see the TJ thing coming (not texans fans, guys that do this stuff for a living)

Passing up DJ will look bad for the first few years, we'll just have to see if TJ and average player to be named later will produce more than he will down the stretch of careers

Yeah the board blew up when the TJ pick came in. To me it was quite the surprise of the draft, but ESPN hardly mentioned it. Maybe the Mike Williams pick by Detroit overshadowed us a bit.

Not really. It's going to be hard to walk out in public with a David Pollack Bengals jersey on. Can a jersey get uglier? I will be the first to buy a Thomas Davis Panther's jersey. How sick is that defense going to be? :shocked

It's going to be crazy with Dan Morgan and TD. Those guys both have great speed. TD is probably the better tackler of the two, and couple it with Peppers and the DLine and they'll be causing all kinds of havoc next season.

As far as the Bengals jersey being ugly I have no idea where you got that from.

It looks great to me.
