Detroit Lions Introduce Black Alternative Jersey

(April 21, 2005) ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions introduced the team's new black alternative jersey at a press conference today held at the Lions Headquarters and Training Facility in Allen Park. The black jersey, featuring Honolulu Blue numbers with silver and white trim, will be worn by the Lions for the first time in 2005 and a limited number are available exclusively at The Roar & More store located at Ford Field beginning today.

The Detroit Lions' new black jerseys will make their debut during the 2005 season in as many as two regular season games and one preseason game.

The Lions will continue to wear the team's traditional throwback uniform during the annual Thanksgiving Day Classic. The Lions are one of only two teams allowed to wear a combination of four jerseys (home, road, throwback and alternative).

Utterly original. There are so many professional teams going with alternate black jerseys. Boring.

Ditto the Panther look. I didn't even know black was in their colors (except for the trim color I guess). Eh, we'll see once it's on.

Who's the other team with 4 choices by the way? Dallas?

Yep that looks very similiar to the Panthers outfit. It's better than that really ugly uniform the Lions wear sometimes where the helmet is all silver. That is very ugly. :thumbdown

Eventually every team in the NFL will find a way to be wearing black and I hate it. When the Raiders and Steelers were "the black teams" they were cool. Now it's weak and gets weaker every time a franchise does it.

Here is how they look with the silver pants. I was actually opposed to the idea, but they look better than I thought they would.

I think that looks real nice. The jersey by itself didn't impress me tho.

BTW, when are the wide recievers gonna give up the joke and wear 80 numbers. We went so long obeying the number rules, then 5 million guys decide they want to wear #11. Oh well, I can't expect much, because they all seem to wear #1 in college anyway.

I thought WRs were allowed to have a number between 10-19 and 80-89...I remember Gaffney wore #12 here until we signed Banks, then he switched to #86...

not a big fab of the black it woulda been cooler to sump the nappy white jesey for a silver and personally i kinda like the lions throwback its simplethis black is almost as bad as the miami trying to use orange.

Im tryin to think who would be the other team that has home away alt and throwback jerseys they can wear? Cowboys? or Niners?

If the NFL would let the lions wear that throwback every game, there wouldn' t be a sad face in the stadium.
THE greatest throwbacks in the NFL. I love thanksgiving because I get to see those jerseys
