Available Pass Rushers In The Draft

MW needs some help on the other side of him. Who would you like to see as a Texan?

I think there is probably a good chance that Hardy is there for us if he declares and I think he would be a great pick. I'm a fan of us getting either a pass rusher or a big run stopping DT with that first pick and we should have a few to choose from. Orakpo would be great and I'm also a fan of Brown, not sure if those guys slip but if they did it would make things interesting. Cody or Raji at DT would help out as well.

I think that our first pick in the draft should be on the D side of the football.

the best available pass rusher just might be someone nobody knows about except the scouts in the 2nd or 3rd rd. the value will be some underclassman. the focus should be on his package of skill combined with ideal measureables. his production can be projected off his motor or how good the team around him is & the type of work ethic he embodies. the process will really begin in earnest once they declare eligbility for the draft then we'll know some names outside the national spotlight who might fit oppossite Mario Williams. I would also like to the see the Texans extend Mario a new contract & let him get involved in the search for his sidekick if he is interested. chemistry could be another key factor in both production & adjustment for the new guy coming into the NFL :marionaner:

Don't think we need to worry about extending Mario's contract just yet but I do agree it might help to see what he'd like tosee opposite of him. There are going to be some nice choices in the 1st and second round far as DL go but I still think we're just as good trying to find some help via FA. I think a motor guy as well would be great to have not sure where he'll land but a guy like Austen English wouldn't be a bad pick.

A big run stuffer at DT and a DE who could get after the QB would be really cool .
I'm greedy and want both! A guy like Ron Brace out of Boston College in round 3 would be perfect. DE will be tricky though because of how many 3-4 OLB type rushers there seem to be (Everette Brown, Larry English, George Selvie, etc). We need to find the one who plays bigger than he is (and possibly goes to the combine bigger than expected).

An edge rusher and someone to stuff the run will be hard to get in one draft will be hard to get but I'd love it.

Gilbert Jurron of San Jose State gets my vote for that. Doubt we'll have a shot at him. He hits anywhere near a 4.7 and does his cone agility drills well, some 3-4 team will pluck him off the boards in the fourth round. Saw him literately destroy the Boise State o-line one game. He's a De playing Dt because he's the biggest baddest cat San Jose State had.

We were playing around a couple of years ago having the same conversations and I saw the name Jacob Ford on a list as a DE than ran a 4.6 from a small school in Arkansas . He is now a Titan ... boooo .

And the small school pass rushers for this year are:

1) Greg Peach, Eastern Washington, 6’3” 255 lbs
2) Jovan Belcher, Maine, 6’2” 230 lbs
3) Tony Pribnow, Wayne State, 6’3” 240 lbs
4) Marcus Bernard, Jackson State, 6’4” 260 lbs
5) Lawrence Sidbury, Richmond, 6’4” 265 lbs
6) Jacob Calderon, Cal Lutheran, 6’ 235 lbs
7) Ataefiok Etukeren, Georgetown, 6’3” 245 lbs
8) Dan McManus, Franklin, 6’1” 225 lbs
9) Dan Skuta, Grand Valley State, 6’3” 265 lbs
10) Tighe Burke, Knox, 6’3” 220 lbs
11) Paul Spreen, Rose Hulman, 6’3” 255 lbs
12) Matt Cox, Western Oregon, 6’ 260 lbs
13) Ricky Hope, Texas A&M Commerce, 6’1” 250 lbs
14) Douglas Bocchino, Moravian, 6’3” 245 lbs
15) Jarvis DeVaughn, Tuskegee, 6’ 245 lbs

I dont think any of these guys are worth drafting though. None of them would be 3 down players at first. A couple might be a year or two away. The ones in bold are players I think the Texans should look at as UDFA's.

Not really a "small school" prospect, but...

Corey Wootton, DE, #99, Senior from....NORTHWESTERN. They have football? They do! Actually Wootton is actually pretty good. He's on the raw side but has the measurables you can't teach and has good production this year. He's 6'7 275; he had 9 sacks and 15 TFL on the season. What him destroy Chase Daniel! I'll be enjoying it!
