Mack Brown and the ultimate mistake

Joe Texan

Inducted 04
Should Mack be fired because it was his and his alone decision to list Florida above Texas in his final vote for #1. That decision kept the Horns ffrom making the National Championship.

I personally say get out now

For some UT fans that would be an emphatic no. For others they have no reason to answer such a question.

Hook'em if you got'em, sit and spin if you ain't got'em. :pirate:

Texas didn't beat Florida head to head so who's to say they shouldn't be ranked #1 over Texas. Maybe Mack honestly thought they were the better team.

Yes, he should be fired right away for being honest and truthful in voting! I mean seriously, who does that anymore?

fired??? hahaah ya cause UT has a good chance of being as good or even better then this year.. so ya lets fire him...

mack brown will always do the right thing, it's got him this far, why change? texas v florida would have been great!

I dislike UT from a rival standpoint but you're nuts if you want Mack Brown to resign or expect him to be fired. The man just delievers 10 win seasons and BCS bolws. He recruits NFL talent and he does everything in a classy way. I'm begining to think you aren't really a UT fan.

Joe Aggie or Joe Sooner just does not have the same elegance.

Mack is what is right with college football today. Yeah, they had a rough 06 and 07 as far as police blotter, but he got rid of the guys and cleaned the locker room post-national championship. Dodds made a great hire and the program is off the charts right now. There is a line of high school junior blue chippers just lining up for the chance to play for Texas. Mack is doing just fine. Just sayin.

In a few years, Mack will be the AD anyway at UT and Muschamp will take over the coaching reigns at 40 Acres. That should tell you all you need to know about integrity and respect. Mack is going to be the head of the greatest collegiate athletic program in the world and its a testament to how he does things. He takes care of his players and is pure class. I may curse Greg Davis' name left and right, but its pretty rare that I find something to criticize Mack about (unless its about not firing GD...haha)

Oh, and I think Mack should schedule a tougher opponent non-conference than Arkansas. I think OSU makes the most sense and during their home-and-home series, UT really took the next step with their back to back Rose Bowl victories. Playing Arkansas and not TCU hosed us in the end more than Mack being honest with his votes. Florida is the most talented team and outside of the Ole Miss debacle, they dominated almost every matchup....in the SEC. Mack respects the SEC as well he should.

Im not a USC or Fresno State fan but they actually have the pairs to go and take on tougher teams and not take on cake ass 1-AA and sub-par 1-A teams. I know that a ton of other schools do this as well and it always comes back to bite them in the butt later on IE Techs great choice in like 3 1-AA teams this year.

I'm a fan of the Horns, not a diehard, but a fan. That said, I think the National Championship game has the correct teams playing for it. Both teams finished the season very strong compared to others.

I'm not a fan of either team, but it will be nice seeing OU and Stoops lose once again.

Mack Brown's a decent coach. I'm not real high on his offensive scheme, but he's still a good coach who recruits very well.

My .02, even if it's babbling. :winky:

he's a horrendous coach, fire him

Let's see. He went with two new o-line guys.....four new DB's. No one knew what they were going to have at receiver after Sweed left. The running backs were a question mark. And with all of that, the guy was one play away from playing in the national championship game. Which would of made his second go in eight years. Obviously the guy has nothing left. He's not a good field general. I'll give you that. I'm just wondering how many SEC teams would kill to have him at their helm ?

I had them at seven and four in August. Gideon doesn't let the ball slither through his ams in the Tech game.....guess what Kast....Florida is at home watching the NC.

I use to think that what Mack Brown does was just a coach speak act. But now I believe he is just one of those honor above all else guys. Colt could of went out. Brown's got the top prospect in the state of Texas at QB for his spread in his back pocket. No reason at all for McCoy to come back.

Fresno State was gutted by injuries back in September. Might want to go put in the A & M game from '07 and have a watch. Not wise burring Pat Hill with a blanket statement. anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Wow. Pete, you need to relax and work on interpreting people. If you followed the flow of the thread, you will see obvious OBVIOUS examples of sarcasm. Maybe you need the big :sarcasm: to make things clear for you, but it should have been blatently clear that he wasn't serious. I as a KU fan would love to see Brown gone for selfish reasons like maybe beating UT, but follow along a little better man before you go off on the guy. Also, Kasts teams are the Miami Dolphins and South Florida. He also likes Miami. He's not a big Gator fan from what I know of him other than supporting his area/state. I don't like Rice or aTm or UT or UH, but I'll support them against anyone but KU.

No UT was saved by the D-line and Muschamp and also when your QB has more yards then your runningbacks there is an issue. You wont like it but Im going to say it Muschamp is the reason UT didnt lose to both Oklahoma schools. As far as him doing well in the SEC I dont think Mack would. Look Mack doesnt recruit players UT does. I dont care who you are if you play in Texas and grew up on the team that is who you want to play for end of story. Mack makes his money off fighting other schools for certain prize recruits. Im sorry I dont drink the UT kool aid, but they are a great football program every year just not the way you make it out to be. Florida would still be in the NC since Bama would be ranked 2 and Florida's win against them would have put them back in the NC. I personally wanted to see UT play Bama since they are going to kill OSU and I didnt want to see another UT v OSU game for like the third time in four years.

Funniest post in recent memory. I dispise Texas for many reasons, but that is just funny.

Hey, try one of these..

I'll answer this one for you, but first I will preface this by saying I am not a fan of either college.

The simplest reason is that Florida then ranked #4 in the nation lost at home to an unranked Ole Miss, while Texas on the other hand then ranked #1 in the nation lost on the road to #7 Texas Tech.

From this example you can see that Florida has no business being in the BCS Title game over not only Texas but Texas Tech as well, seeing as how their only loss came against #5 Oklahoma on the road while they were ranked #2.

I would also like to add that if one checks the makeup of the BCS scoring, they will see that the computers got it right. The computers would have had Oklahoma versus Texas. It was the people that picked Florida above Texas.

Mack was born in Tennessee, went to school at Vandy, Florida State and Southern Miss and he coached at Fla State, Southern Miss, Memphis State, LSU, Appalachian State and Tulane. What makes someone think that he could not be successful in the SEC by knowing what we know about the man, his resume and biography? The guy knows how to sell and in the SEC it is all about the sell for the coach, leave it to the boosters for the execution.

BTW, his brother is the head coach at Tennessee Tech and was the head coach at Vandy some time ago.
