Maybe Texans Chick will reveal the farce that this really is in her blog. She gets more readers anyway.

Chron.com.
I am ashamed to call you Houstons Paper, You are so ill informed as to not include any of the Platinum lot in your little competition and you try your hardest to put your faves on top. Where does John McClain send his guests at the Texans Games when he wants to let them see what tailgating is. After All he is the Writer you tout as the NFL guy at the paper. I am truly astonished that you could even have a competition like this and exclude the Blue Crew or the Raging Bull Tailgaters. You can go ahead with your little competition but it wreaks of the magnitude of Texas not getting a shot at Mizzo in the Big Twelve Championship.

Lost for now...
Nice article there Steph!!! I love it!

This is unbelievable... We definately are not feeling the love here...

The Blue Crew was essentially THE first really substantial tailgating effort at Texans games. As a member of the band for the first several seasons, we would tour the lots every game. It was pretty meager the first two seasons (especially compared to year 3 - now). The BC virtually taught/inspired others how to do things, and the rest is history. Anytime that fans from other teams go to games at Reliant, they are routinely referred to the BC as they remain one of the classic tailgating groups as well as incredibly gracious hosts. They have a league-wide reputation and yet aren't even recognized by the local newspaper? Unfortunately, this chron.com article lacks any attempt at accurately portraying the tailgating scene. Taking a cursory tour of the grounds doesn't lend itself to actually knowing/experiencing the tailgating on a regular basis. Of course, voting by the fans would help even this out, but in a list of that many tailgaters, to exclude some that they did (BC/Raging Bull) is absolutely ridiculous. It's like having a poll for your "favorite" Texan player and leaving out people such as Andre, Dunta, , Mario, Slaton or Schaub!

The Yellow Lot calls BS on that.

...and that.

The Yellow Lot has had a number of substantial tailgates from day 1. Not a single one of us was inspired or taught anything by Blue Crew or Any Other Colored Crew for that matter.

VIVA Anna-Megan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always had a deep respect for the Yellow lot and the things that they have done since day one. There are some really great tailgates there!

I can't really speak for texansdrummer because I have never been in the Bull Pen Band and I don't go to Yellow as often as he did. Nor have I seen what he has seen or talked to the people he has talked to.

The point here, Bpe3, is why don't they include the Platinum Lot in their poll. It is an honest question and one that I would be asking if the Yellow Lot were left out as well.

We are ALL Texans fans and we are being acknowledged as a top tier tailgating city, not because of one lot but because of what we are doing TOGETHER as a whole.

Ted,

I agree...Platinum SHOULD be included in the voting. In fact, I was suprised that it was omitted. I would have voted BC for 2nd place if it were there... :)

That is our point. I have been a Mojo man from the early days when we all met up in Dallas. What a great trip that was.

I am not voting until ALL lots are accounted for.

Hey, the Filos in Orange have always brought an electrifying feeling to tailgating as well.:shades:

Something Witty !
Well ... I can see the tailgate olympics for charity coming on . Next year each week will have a different event and the team with the most points wins . Hey ... this can support Texan talk .

Don't get me wrong....in my experience there were great people and fantastic times to be had with great people in ANY lot. I'm pretty certain that not many people had the task of covering the swath of tailgating that I did at every game. I remember when we split the band in two so we could cover even more ground, which is when we started going to FILO (and having a great time with them), among others. Everyone has their own personality/thing in the lots....that's part of what makes it so fun. I'm not making the case that nobody but the BC was throwing it down in years 1&2.....but that's the zip code that had the most activity (by far) in the early days.

Bottom line is that the Platinum lot should have a few representatives - period.

Look Guys I voted, and I did protest the actual listing but a contest is a contest and if we can not be a part of the decision then I will give them mine.

Public and out in the open

Old school tailgaters
Texans Mojo and in no paticular order we just had to push one or the other.
I did a third and that was not important the thing is we are one nation.
We have a very intense NFL enviroment in Houston. I have been all over and these groups have traditions that get stronger every year. And family upon family come by and enjoy the afternoon before going back to the grind for the week. It is too bad that we do not have a game every week so we could have more time to practice the art of what we do. Every body on that stadium ground is the real winner cause you get to be there experiencing the history first hand and I say Welcome and Merry Christmas to All

My e-mail to John Mcclain......

I am really ashamed that the Chronicle would do a poll on tailgating and not even include the Platinum Lot! The Blue Crew has hosted dignitaries from all over the world and fans from every team with most of them coming back for more fun. We have welcomed with open arms friends of sports writers and players never accepting payment (we have had many offers) from anyone for the experience. We pick up out of town visitors and make sure they are back safely to their hotels.

We may not have commercial sponsorship but that is what makes the Blue Crew special. It is a growing family of friends that make it work.

John, I would not expect the Blue Crew to win such an award because of the lack of sponsorships but I would expect the Chronicle to at least put us in the discussion and not act as if the Platinum lot does not exist.

To top it off, the Chronicle also stiffed the Ragin Bull Tailgate, also in Platinum! Ragin Bull and Blue Crew have been featured in Tailgating Monthly Magazine.

How many tailgates in Houston can say that?

What a sham!! What a shame!! I expected more from you, John.

FILO was the first group to make it to the Tailgater of the Year...twice.
ORANGE LOT RULES!!! (I had to say that)

But for real, each lot needs to be represented to be a true poll. No matter who has the most sponsorship and cash (hey, thats how you win)...every larger and more well-known tailgate should be included.
PS- Thank you for forgetting us A-M...thats how we roll now. Keep the Hollywood stuff in Blue (not Platinum, because they didn't make the poll...gotta love me Ted!). We who are not mentioned are the tailgates that have the most fun.

Yea, guys and gals! You all missed the point. This is payback time for all the negative stuff we have been saying about Houston sports writers! In other words, they are stickin it to us!! Yes, I know, other people have been just as verbal about their distain for the Chronicles sports team, but, it seems the majority, on this MB anyway, comes from the BC. I know John McClain reads this board, or use to, and I'm pretty sure Anna-Megan does too. Those sports writers surf the web and you all know it.

Personally, I don't really care. They gave us the snub, just as HEB does every week. We know the type of tailgating group we have become over the years. NO big money contributions, NO huge grills with fancy set ups, NO loud obnoxious music, just a bunch of great Texan fans who love our team with a passion, win or lose, and love entertaining fans from all over the world. We established our identity several years ago, lets remain PROUD of who we are!!!!

Please do not take this as a negative post, but really???

I mean does it really mean that much to you....I mean everyone enjoys their own lots and parties, shoot, we all do and we all have ventured into other lots. Everyone is as good as the others and some might be bigger or more dressed up, but does it really matter that much who thinks what and why.

Enjoy what we have, that's one of the greatest tailgating cities in the NFL. Who G.A.S. what some writer does or does not say, as it is us the tailgaters that make this story even possible..

I does matter, Hobie. The chronicle is our only "real" fishwrap in this town and we HAVE to turn to them on occasions.

They are asking which are the best tailgating lots but they aren't giving us all the options. My question to them is WHY?? All I want is an answer. (BTW, no response from AM or JM at this point. It seems I will get my response after the poll is over(?). Is that right?)

If the shoe was on the other foot, wouldn't you want to know why Orange wasn't included? Wouldn't it tick you off just a tad??

Ted... would it bother me, not at all.. I mean, it's like I said, I could not care less what anyone thought of the orange lot tailgaters or if we were omitted from a online newspaper poll, I mean really..We are out there having a great time with people we care about and if someone wants to say the Blue lot is best, so be it.. It effects me not in any way. I will still show up the following game, party with the same great people and do my thing.. I would be willing to bet everyone here that not 1 of you thinks what any of the other lots are doing each and every Sunday we are out there tailgating, or at least I do not.
As I said, it's the people we tailgate with , our community of sorts, at least to me.. Who is the best lot, well that depends on how many people from that lot saw the article and went to post. as there is not 1 person here that can say honestly which lot is the best unless they spent a full season at every lot..That's why I said who gives a S. what people write.. it's all a numbers game. Cuz when it is "official", who has the best lot, there will be people saying, WHAT, ARE THEY EFFIN' NUTS !!
You guys have a great setup over in Plat. as the blue has their corporate beasts, the Yellow has the Mojo, and we have our groups as well...it's the people in my eyes, not the "lot" who makes the Texans tailgaters then best in the NFL..

I finally got a note from Johnny Mc and AM that they are checking with their bosses. I will keep you updated but more than likely they will say it was a new person posting the poll and they didn't know any better.

I mean, what would the bosses have to say, anyway??

I see AM's name on the article and blog. It seems like the natural place to start and I know she has control over the stuff in her blog.

AM writes her blog but probably has little to do with putting the poll together because there isn't something in the blog software to do it.

I am guessing editorial folks from the Chronic know little about Texans tailgating other than when they take pictures, they get a lot of page hits from people scrolling through them all.

A best tailgate lot poll without including Platinum is like the time I tried to order from the McDonald's late night menu, and they said that they didn't serve Big Macs late night.

And I'm all like, uh, this is Mc-Freaking-Donalds, home of the Big Mac. I'll go in there and make it myself, as I know the ingredients: twowholebeefpattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepicklesonionsonasesameseedbun. Had to settle for a quarterpounder to absorb the alcohol. Don't like MickeyDs, but sometimes that is all there is.

It is just wrong.

Actually saw Anna Megan at Bubba's and she explained to Joe Texan that the Platinum Lot has too many corporate sponsors. WTF???

If she actually said that to Joe, someone is really stretching. Have you ever been to Blue or Yellow??

I am still waiting for an explanation from "the bosses".

There are tons of non-sponsored tailgates in Platinum. I've seen her at a number of them.

I will get the answers and relay them to you Blue Crew. Here is my latest email to JM.

John, I am not trying to get you to change any rules or the contest itself as we in the Blue Crew are very laid back in that regard. That being said I was looking at www.Chron.com the other day when I ran across a Tailgate competition and a Poll as to who was the best Tailgate. As you are aware I am a member of a great Tailgate that has been situated in the corner of the Blue/Platinum lot for the entire existence of the Texans as a Football team. We have no corparate sponsorship and have done this individually since we decided to come together. When I looked at the list of the tailgates in the poll on www.Chron.com I was taken with suprise that we at the Blue Crew had nary a whisper of mention when there were so many other fellow Tailgates in the poll. When questioning wether we were elegible we were told that the platinum lot was all corparate sponsors and the Chronicle wanted tailgates that were not sponsored. Well I know that a few of the Tailgates listed are Sponsored when in fact we at the Blue Crew are not. Not only were we at the Blue Crew left out of the poll but another Famous Texan Tailgate "the Raging Bull" were left out as well. I am not one to have any buisness dealings with the Raging Bull but I am sure that they feel as bad as we do about being snubbed by this poll. John, I have a lot of People that make up my tailgate somewhere in the numbers between 60 and 120 per game and it is them that I am trying to get an answer to. I cannot even think of how I could do this alone as it takes every last member of the blue Crew to make it work and I take it as my responsibility to try to get an understanding as to why we are left off of a poll that we have worked very hard to be a part of. I appreciate any info you can relay to me and thank you for taking the time to listen to what we had to say. On behalf of the Blue Crew I say Go Texans! Joe Texan
you guys and gals let me know if I need to say anything else

I'll be honest here, I'm not bothered at all that we were left off the poll. It's nice to be recognized, but I'm not going to lose sleep if we're not. We've always done our thing, and we always will. The reasons for our tailgating are many, and not one of them is for recognition in an online poll or any publication for that matter.

Over the years we have had thousands of visitors to our tailgates. Some were out of town fans, others included Houstonians, opposing team's fans, and even some from overseas. Each time I meet someone new at our tailgates they've said the same thing: What a great time they had, and a big thank you. Many of those former guests are now part of the "Blue Crew" and every year we continue to grow.

The recognition that means the most to me is in the the words of gratitude and smiles on guests & regulars that stop by and see us throughout the football season. To them, I say: "You're always welcome."
