I didn't like the fact that the reason was associated with a coach. I don't know if its smith, but its whoever is calling the plays. We're blitzing more. He's a decent ballhawk UNTIL you get about 14 yards down field.. then its like he forgets there is a QB. with the blitzes that's happening less. I think its a combination of things actually. Can I just put 1/6 of a vote in each option?

It's a multiple choice poll...I think I made it multiple choice...

I too think it's a combination of things...

I think that having Dunta back and the two veteran safeties has allowed us to do more defensively....I think that Adibi in the lineup and Greenwood out helps us tremendously and that too allows us to be more agressive...

Smith may not have a lot to do with it, but maybe he does....

If the defense keeps showing signs of improvement I wouldn't be surprised to see him back next yr...

I know the entire board disagrees, but I still don't think he's that bad of a co-ordinator...

The "entire board" is into scapegoatism, and 'feel good' firings. More emotional than logical.

i think it just has to do with him being a full time starter and wasnt used to it before in dallas.... then he got thrown in there as a starter and teams took advantage of it... now hes getting used to it and learning from mistakes... the best way to learn is to keep on keeping on...

that being said i didnt vote cause i dont think any of those answers are right...

I agree with a lot of you that say it's a combination of things. It usually is in a team sport. But, I think Dunta coming back and starting is probably the biggest reason. Heck, the whole defense has played much better since Dunta was put back in the starting lineup! JMHO! :d:

That's an interesting perspective...

I didn't really think about that angle...

I don't think he has ever played any better or worse than he is right now
But if the media mentions he is in the top ten for interceptions, some people all of a sudden have to change their opinion. He and faggins are actually pretty decent cover corners, with blaring weaknesses. Size and speed.

If we can ever generate consistant pressure with our front four, stop the run with 7, & learn to play underneath zone, we'll have a defense to reckon with.

Bennett is pretty much the same, with a little more size.

Can't speak for others, but I had no clue he was in the top ten for interceptions...

I did hear something on the radio about two weeks ago that statistically he was actually A LOT better than what the common perception of him was...

I think he's gotten better because I've actually seen him start to make plays on the ball...

The one play that sticks out to me is the short slant he broke up on a third down last weekend...That was a really, really good play by him....

I definitely think he's playing better...

And I think Freedy B. is better in zone than he is man to man...

I don't know if you're just saying that we need to lighten up on Smith, or if you think that his side of the ball that he coordinates is pretty good. I'd love to hear your opinion on the latter if that's your thinking.

Honestly, I think that Reeves has looked better because our opponents have not been playing well at all. Braylon Edwards would have made him his personal ***** if he had hands above his wrists instead of feet.

The Texans started playing man coverage when D-Rob went back into the starting lineup. Before that, they were playing mainly zone coverage.

there is no doubt in my mind that "he's been good all along" is correct. there are other factors that are also at play but he has played well all season. his one knock is he doesn't play the ball well. everybody knows that. he's getting better. that's the "other factors" that have helped his game but he has been all over his guy all year. apparently the theme for me tonight is why isn't anybody paying attention. he's played well. all season. he has gotten burned a few times. the mighty dunta got burned once if i remember correctly. i think he didn't play the ball correctly against the tacks one time... maybe.

reeves is a decent corner. dunta is a decent corner. bennett is a decent corner. we have other issues i think. those guys are good football players.

go texans.

I haven't the slightest idea for the reason why he is doing better, but he is, and that's good enough for me. Doesn't mean we still shouldn't get a good CB in the draft though.

Reeves has stuck with his man well since the day he donned a Texans uni. One of the first things I noticed about him was how well positioned he always was, and how he somehow made that irrelevant on every long play.

Anytime his back is to the QB, he is not a good CB. To me, it's that simple. All of his good plays have been facing the line of scrimmage.

Reeves is Reeves. Within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage he's a solid NFL corner. Beyond that he's a waste of space.

Nothing has changed.

Have you been watching the games?

The first several games he seemed to have trouble finding the ball, but was almost always covering pretty good. Always seems to have good speed to keep up with the receiver and tacklling abilities. He just did not turn his head and find the ball.

The last several weeks he is still covering pretty good but is also turning his head and looking for the ball so now he can knock it away or intercept it.

I am one who did not like this signing at all. But he has definately gotten a lot better as the season has progressed. Nobody is going to make a good play everytime, but Reeves has improved his play a great deal this year.

The euphoria of 3 game win streak brings about some strange effects on Texan fans. I wonder how strong the amnesia could be after winning 4 in a row?

I hope we find out. :texflag:

I've watched all of the Texans games, and many of his Dallas games last season. Nothing has changed.

Being close to the reciever when he catches a 60 yard pass doesn't make you a good corner. Breaking up, or intercepting that pass does.

You're getting caught up in the plays he makes within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage, and letting it blind you to the 2-3 long passes he gives up every game.

He's gotten lucky the last few weeks with drops, and penalties that negated his failure. Did you miss the 60 yard bomb in the GB game? Did you notice who the corner was? Yeah, #35.

Reeves is not nearly as bad as yall make him out to be. He is leading us in INT and has been making plays. Of course he is not great or anything but compared to our CBs(other than Dunta) he is a major upgrade.

I don't get how you can watch all the games and not see that he's gotten better. Early in the season, he never got his hands up or turned his head. Middle of the season, he started making a play on the ball once a game or so... now, he's doing it a little bit more. He's nowhere near where he NEEDS to be, but I don't see how anyone can say he isn't better now than he was early in the year.

that should have been one of the choices
:)

There is no right answer in this poll. He has just worked hard and gotten alot of experience and has gotten better that way.

1. solid safety play
2. improved pass rush
3. disguising/ mixing coverages

Apparently, the geniuses running the defense discovered that those things listed above have a positive impact on the entire team- not just Reeves.

Like everyone is saying, a combination of factors. Drob's return, Braylon Edward's hands, Jags' lack of receivers, etc. He definitely seems to be playing better, but other teams are still chucking it long to his guy several times a game because they feel he can't cover long.
