College Football Awards are Useless

A friends was talking to me about this and this is what he brought up

Tebow - best all around player
McCoy - player of the year
Bradford - best Qb

How can you be the best all around player and not be player of the year or how can you be the player of the year and not be the best all around player? If both of those are QBs, then how can one of them not be the best QB?

Also, I was talking to him about how in the Big XII the AP awarded Colt player of the year and Bradford 1st team QB...how the heck can you do that?

It is like soccer where all kids get an trophy

Also, did Sam Bradford steal Chaka from Land of the Lost's hair do and look?

i hear ya HF, but it was especially difficult this year..you had 3 guys 2 of which could've taken all 3 awards (McCoy & Tebow) & noone could've said anything............except maybe graham harrell.

wouldn't call that anything unusual, he finished a VERY distant 4th. it's the same reason Brady Quinn wasn't invited to the '05 Heisman finals, since he finished well behind, Bush, Young and Leinart, despite all the clamor that year that he was a deserving nominee. the voters disagreed

I just think with an 11-1 record and more yards, etc than the others that he should get the respect. It is a joke. Even with known reasoning you presented it shows how idiotic the human element of voting is and what a joke these awards are.

I have a question for y'all:

Why should Harrell get invited if he has literally a 0% chance of winning?

What about Crabtree? Or Shonn Greene? Or Max Hall? Those guys are all expected to garner votes too.

Only three guys have any sort of legitimate chance at winning. Those three should be the only ones there, IMO.

The semifinalists for the Maxwell awards don't get invited to that awards show. Only the finalists do.

I'm not a Tech or a Harrell fan but that is what gets me...that he is a 0% chance. The guy, before the Oklahoma game, was a front runner. His team is 11-1 like everyone elses and he has better stats. Your point is very valid but who is making the decisions that he is not better than the others? It is all a products of which schools have big time programs and hype. None of these awards make any sense to me. The Heisman has been a joke for awhile since half of the time it is a Gino Toretta who will never amount to anything and who had their time int he sun.

Adrian Peterson?

Ricky Williams rushed for 1000 yards four years in a row from 2000-20003...
Whoops, forgot about Adrian, but Ricky, please, did you forget about is purple haze layoff from football?

it's pretty simple: they only invite the guys who had any legitimate chance of winning based on the amount of votes they received. clearly Harrell received practically nothing vote-wise, otherwise he'd be invited. same with all the players bah mentioned. there's a huge fall-off vote-wise after Tebow/Bradford/McCoy.

as for why he's got a 0% chance, it's because he plays in a gimmicky offense and the only way a player from that offense is a Heisman finalist is if his team is in a BCS bowl. see Colt Brennan last year

a player's pro potential has nothing to do with the Heisman

lead the NFL in rushing with 1800 yards in 2002, and despite taking a few years off, he's always been a very good player

I have always thought that what you need to do is name the best position players. Then only those winners are eligible for Player of the year, Heisman Trophy, etc. I agree thats its goofy that someone can win the Heisman and not even be the best at their own position.

Most sports awards where writers vote on it is craptastic. If Rafael Palmeiro acn get voted as Gold Glove winner in 1999 while only playing 28 games then you know how full of **** sports writers are.
