So how much room will we have in our salary cap this offseason?

There are some juicy free agents coming up this offseason.... I wonder which ones we could get:

  • Ray Lewis
  • Julius Peppers
  • TJ Housyermomma
  • Terrell Owens
  • Tank Johnson
  • Jeff Saturday
  • Rodney Harrison
  • Brian Dawkins

We won't see it happen, but man, if we could get Peppers and Mario on the same line.......WOW!!!!!!

  • TJ Housyermomma - I like Kevin Walters Just Fine
  • Terrell Owens - To Old(35)
  • Tank Johnson - Wouldn't Mind Having
  • Jeff Saturday - O-Line is coming together and don't want
  • Rodney Harrison - To Old(35)
  • Brian Dawkins - To Old(35)

Julius Peppers and Mario Williams on the same D-Line would likely earn a famous nickname to be remembered forever in NFL History.. something like "Texas Twosome", "Texas Toasters", "Destruction Duo"...

  • Ray Lewis - too old & not leaving anyway
  • Julius Peppers - possible, but Carolina will probably franchise him
  • TJ Housyermomma -what's wrong with our WR corps now?
  • Terrell Owens - Again, what's wrong with who we have now, besides this dude is a turd anyway...
  • Tank Johnson - Tommie Harris would be available & is better. also another turd, but 1 i'd be willing to take a chance on.
  • Jeff Saturday Not a chance he leaves peyton unless forced to which i doubt the Colts would let him go...
  • Rodney Harrison - He's done & i hate his dirty playing ass with a passion, anyone else but him.
  • Brian Dawkins - Would love to get X-man here

Love the ideas but i can't see us landing any of these guys....

If SmithDC was our DC both of them would be dropping into a zone coverage more times than not. :gun:

Ray will return to the Ravens......no way they let go of their leader, plus he's getting old.

Julius Peppers will be franchised before they allow him to walk (see Haynesworth this year)

TJ and TO......no need for the first one and no room for the headache that the second one brings.

Tank Johnson is overrated and hasn't done crap the last two seasons, we already have players just like him on this team, we need beef up front (like 330+ pound DT)

Jeff Saturday is solid, but is getting up there and will be chasing dollars for his last productive contract so whoever gets him will probably over pay...I'd rather find somebody younger who's going to stick around for awhile, but hey....it did work for the Titans with Kevin Mawae so I'm open to this if the price is right.

Rodney Harrison's career is probably over, I wouldn't be surprised if we already saw him play his last game.

Brian Dawkins is getting up there and his best days are now behind him, but if he came on a short term contract, I'd take him.

Most of these players are just big names with their best football clearly behind them. Houston doesn't need to be like Jacksonville and blow big money on a Hugh Douglas type of FA. We've already seen our fair share in bad signings with the Ahman Greens, Rosevelt Colvins, and Mike Flanagans of the world.

This is a young football team, so where's the list of young up and coming FAs. I mean I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in some veteran leadership, but they still need to be able to be productive for atleast 3 to 4 seasons.

Well, let's not forget about Dunta Robinson and Owen Daniels. Also, when does Kevin Walter, Demeco Ryans and Chester Pitts' contract run out? Not to mention draft picks. We've got to take care of our own.

The only free agents we have to worry about are Dunta and Weary. Even weary is questionable. I know Pete Faggins is up, but I think he'll be at home sitting on a sofa watching NFL Sunday Ticket next year.

We'll franchise Dunta.

I believe Weary was released from IR several weeks ago.

You sure Dunta will get top 5 CB pay?

Thanks! From a quick glance, we should be able to go aggressively after one of our big holes on D if we choose to do so as well as continue to build more depth. Taking a starting quality big DT, DE or S, or even RB (did anyone see Carolina last night??)...off the list would be pretty big imo before our draft. Assuming options are there of course. Should be an exciting off season this year.

Hope you are right and I am wrong about off season. I just don't see any significant pick ups and a weak offering to select from. Unless some juniors come out that I am not expecting, I'm not thrilled with our chances in draft either. That being said, Smith and Kubes have done pretty well guys so far & I think there will be at least two trade downs with out first two picks.

Plenty to be played out before we see who is available on the FA list. Good news again is... it seems we will have money to play with if someone we really like/need is out there.

I can definitely see a trade down if we pick in the mid teens...the top tier usually drops off after picks 10-12. Heck, mid rounds is where we have hit the jackpot the past few years anyway.

With salary caps changing the following year, expect every possible junior, his dog, and his neighbors dog to come out next draft.

Do you guys think there are likely to be any front office changes?

Seems like the Texans have turned a corner but is it enough for co-ordinators to keep their jobs?

I heard that Kyle Shanihan's college roomate will be our special teams coach, Kubiak's best friend's son will be running backs coach, and his dogsitter's husband will be D-Line coach.
