Derick Armstrong gettin playing time?

You know alot of posters have been sayin sign a free agent or wait for the draft, but i think Derick Armstrong should get the third ifnot second playing position. I like his style of play and i really think with time and playing time he'll explode to be a top notch reciever IMO. what do yall think?

He has good hands and runs good routes, but I'm not sure the team thinks he's ready to take over starting WR duties, since they inactivated him for two games last year (Indy and Chicago)...I'm pretty sure he wasn't injured, so the team simply didn't want him to play those games...I like his potential though...

yea but really i feel the only way to build of potential is to get some playing time and i think we should insert him more often into next years games and hopefully preseason and see how well he does. let him prove he belongs at the starting WR spot

And can someone, once again, tell me why Gaff shouldnt have the number 2 spot???

Who lead all WRs on the team in YPC??? Gaff
Who had the longest play from scrimmage last season??? Gaff
Who is the most polished route runner??? Gaff

It's not Gaff's fault that Davis was targeted 85 times and him only 68. With the math done in my head (isnt really reliable), if Gaff would of been targeted 20 more times, he would have had about 850 yards. It's hard to make plays when the QB doesnt throw you the ball.

i said have armstrong at third position maybe even 2nd and because i say second i think he has alot more talent then Gaff IMO stats dont show the whole picture but yes Gaff is good but i think derick is better IMO. but if Gaff gets some balls thrown to him this next season and shows me how good he really can be i'll change my point of view but at this point i just think Armstrong can be wanna tha best IMO....and nothin personal towards ur fiddy. i've been readin all ur posts along with infantrycak lots of respect

Armstrong and Gaff are roughly the same player, though. Neither are burners, but both have a nice set of hands (although Gaff's may be a little better). The only big difference is that Gaff has proved that he can play over the course of an entire season.

yea but armstron hasnt been given the chance and i saw LOTS of potential at the vikings game, he got open when he was covered and made big plays. thats one thing GAFF sometimes along with bradford do that well once there covered they seem to sit roughly in one spot and wait for a pass rather than runngin around gettin open

But there has to be a reason why Armstrong wasnt able to overtake Gaff's or Bradford's spot last year. Armstrong did have a great Vikings game, but I'd take Gaffney's full year than one game.

On not running around: It all depends on the coverage the other team is running. In a zone you're suppose to find the soft spot and "sit down." In man, you suppose to continue your routes.

I like Armstrong at the third spot with Bradford as insurance for him. Armstrong has all the physical tools to be a great NFL reciever he just needs some balls to come his way and if it turns out he does terrible then we have Bradford (who I'm not high on but is capable) to do the job for us. As far as the #2 spot I think Gaff has proven himself capable of that just like Fiddy pointed out. Plus if we could ever get a threat at TE that would also make room for AJ Gaff and Armstrong to run wild

true point well taken, i think though the reason he wasnt is yes like u said gaff has proven he can play a whole season but i was just takin the vikins game as an example armstrong had plenty of good catches and some good games the few he played it i just think given the chance he can be good.

Some good posts on here. I like Armstrong AND Gaffney quite a bit. I feel bad for Gaff cuz he's 2nd fiddle to AJ. AND stop writing hate mail. AJ is PHENOMENOL and more than deserving of the 1st look from Carr. Unfortunately, that's about all Carr gets before it's chuck and duck time. Given time and a pocket, I bet Carr would burn the heck out of D's with Gaffney or Armstrong. Not quite sure what the coaches opinion if Armstrong is. He is kinda like Peek...shows tons of potential, but the staff sees stuff we don't see in practice and they see limited playing time. Maybe it's simply a matter of $$. Gaffney is a high 2nd and Armstrong is a lot further down the pecking order. All in all, IMO, we have the WR's we need to compete at a high level in the NFL. Maybe this season, the O-line will gel and we can see if I'm full of BS or not. LOL

Great post, good comparison b/w peek and armstrong, that makes sense with what were seeing and what the coaches are seeing, hope its nuttin to much i'd like to see both peek and armstrong out there.

i really do think he deserves a 3-spot. corey bradford is the favorite for the spot, but derek armstrong made some big plays for us last year, and i believe that if he gets more time and more looks, he will thrive.

AJ, Gaffney, Armstrong, Thomas or rookie. Bradford is a waste of our money. Armstrong and Gaffney are both good route runners, but they are not gamebreakers, they dont scare anyone and that is why posters are talking about a WR eventhough it would be a waste in the first round

although he dont seem to have AWESOME speed, he does have awesome speed and always SEEMS to get open. I think he could be a star in this league if given the chance.

exactly and if given a chance he can be a gamebreaker and scare defenses IMO....i say give him a shot in preseason if he does well work him in more often during the season

The reason that Gaffney isnt the #2 reciever is because they like him in the slot. He has great hands, but they like Bradfords speed more on the outside. I agree that Armstrong should get more playing time in the preseason to see what he can do.

Gaffney and Armstrong likely stay in the slot. We are deep there and are not seeking slot type WR's. We want speed on the outside and if we don't pick someone up I'd look to Starling as a sleeper as the WR2 by 2006.

i agree with you about starling guy had amazing speed on special teams just not sure if he can catch? i'd like to seem him and armstrong in the preseason, and if im not mistaken armstrong is the second tallest guy on the feild next to Andre but then again true nott sure if he is as much of a deep threat than at slot but either way i like him at slot and would want to see him more often on the feild.
