Reggie Swinton signed to compete with JJ

About even on kickoff returns, couple of yeards better on punt returns and opbviously wins on TD's returned.... loses on 2 fumbles in 4 years.

Moses stats
Swinton stats

Sound about even to me (comparing stats anyway).

Cant wait for the preseason games to see who wins this battle! Tough comp. cant do anything but make them better. :boxing:

Swinton should win. He would actually be WR depth as well. That's an important issue. JJ has no value outside of returning kicks.

He would most likely never play at WR... AJ and Bradford would start (unless we draft a good WR) with Gaffeny in the slot and Armstrong as the 4th. Unless we start playing some Patriot style football (but i doubt that)! :heh:

Well hopefully in the draft we will pick up a center and a guard. Im hoping for Baas! :thumbup

Cant wait for the draft this weekend! Im dying of anticipation!!!

I think it is actually worse for the DL. No competiton and way overpaid.

I hope that this year our DL can stay heathly and dominate the opposing OL's and open up some running room for our linebackers to make plays. Sometime in the near future we are gonna have to do something about the DL though. Maybe in next years draft or FA.

OK guys, the magic word "competition" talking about JJ Moses isn't an open invitation to run off-topic on "competition" at every other position on the team.

Sorry J.J but I dont think it will be much of a competition. Swinton is just as good of a returner and he can also catch if called upon so he gives us more WR depth and you know the old saying two is better than one.

Swinton puts a couple balls on the ground in training camp, like the 10 he has put on the ground in the last 4 seasons, and you're right--it won't be much of a competition.

This is a very good signing. I can't wait for the dudes to go at it in Training Camp. Didn't Swinton have a good game against us last year or was that someone else?

Swinton didn't play in the 1st four games last season.

yeah well competition is good, but i still see J.J back returning putns and kickoffs when the regular season comes around.
Hey you can't just give the man the job, you gotta make him earn it and this will be a good way to do that.

You definately make him earn it. How mant return TD's did J.J. get last year? What was our special teams ranked? Lets not give J.J. the job right now because he has at least as much to prove to the Texans orginization as Swinton does.

Yah sure JJ hasnt been the greatest player but with what talents hes been giving he gets out there day in and day out and competes with what he has. so to say he hasnt proven anything to the texan organization is kinda messed up, cause he has. who else the past 2 years were we gonna put bak there? and how many times did we sign diffrent guys for him to compete with? i know we have and hes won out every time. so yes i agree hes not the best but hes one of my fav. on the team and im glad to have him.

Competition breeds excellence, and this should be a fun battle to watch this preseason...May the best man win, though I'd probably give the edge to Swinton...Then again, I thought Vontez Duff was going to take his job last year, and JJ fought him off...

yah thats the point i was makin...thanks D-rek

Well, look at it this way, Swinton couldn't cut it with a sorry Dallas team and an even worse Detroit team, so what makes you think he can make it here?

True...I'm not sure about why he was outed in Dallas (probably fumbles), but Detroit had one of the best kick returners last year in Eddie Drummond...He won 2 games for them in a row by returning a couple kicks for TDs...

At the difference of JJ who never catch a pass in NFL, Reggie Swinton can also be a good receiver. Last year, he caught 18 passes for 213 yards and one TD.

Then i bet thats why they got rid of them cause they already had somebody they were goin to keep, but then again drummond got hurt in the thanksgiving game....did swinton play in his place?

Did I say he has'nt proven anything or did I say he has at least as much to prove as Swinton ?... :thumbdown :thumbdown ....That's what I thought.

haha sry canadiantexan i misread but still i dont see how he has just as much to prove as swinton? please explain

I just dont think that J.J has really done anything to say the job is his. I'm willing to bet that most people outside of Houston fans don't even know who he is. I also like J.J. but just not what he's done on the feild at game time. It does'nt matter if your a 10 year starter or a rookie you have to prove you belong every time you step on the feild especialy when your team signs someone every year to compete with you for your job.

P.S. sorry maybe the last post was a bit too sarcastic.

haha no prob good post though, now that i've read that i see what you're sayin. but how long does JJ have to compete? till he scores touchdowns or plays starting WR? but true everyone rookie or vetran has to compete but i still feel hes proven somewhat more to the texans than swinton, mainly cause he has ousted others who have came to take his job and he does preform WELL not great but well and he gets the job done IMO

Point well taken. Lets just hope he does start scoring touchdowns and we are not here next year asking why they brought someone else in again.

Hmm.. 10 fumbles and 4 TDs vs No Fumbles and No TDs. Other than that their stats are similar.. except Swinton breaks away more often.

I dunno... is every TD worth 2.5 fumbles? Would his TDs win games for us more often than his fumbles lost games for us?

Im still thinking J.J. is the man.

Looks like Swinton just got bumped for Buchannon. Don't look back, someone may be gaining on you.

Makes u think coaches feel OL will be better next year w/experience in zone blocking system.

I will now that we got Buchanon :woot ...
Your head hurts too, don't it? The texans(small letters intentional) are gonna gonna pay a lot more than the draft choices already surrendered for that trade.

I'm assuming you're referring to his lockerroom issues...For now, I'm thinking he just needs a change of scenery, much like Corey Dillon did...I think if he acts up, Jon Hoke and Dom Capers will whip his *** into shape...If that doesn't work, he's gone in 2 years, so no big deal...If he doesn't develop into a good CB, he's still a game-breaking return man...

Reggie is a good solid pick up, who can contribute on Special Teams.

He was the most consistant Lions WR, sadly....this was probally because he was the most healthy of them.

But he runs pretty good routes, gets seperation, and usually makes the catch. He's solid not spectacular. Should be a great #4 option.

Going to miss him, first time I have said that about a Lions WR that has left these past few years.

yea then it sounds like swinton is exactly like JJ solid but not spectacular. and plus i dont think were lookin for a WR like swinton IMO im not sayin were set at WR just not him. so my point is JJ is solid but not spectacular but with buchanan signed who knows anymore

When I look back at the game against Jville and remember how short handed we were after no JJ, I am glad to see we have more capable people to help in this department.

yea thats right he does play for the cheifs....then i guess he wasnt missed muched by ihategeeks but then again he said

Good point ET. We now have a couple of folks to handle kick duty. We looked BAD and very nervous in the kicking game in JVille.
