Right personnel for the 3-4??

Maybe this is an understatement, but I don't think we have had the right personnel for the 3-4 defense. When your D relies on OLB's for pass rushing, you gotta have some bad, mean SOB's in there and some VERY large interior linemen to clog up the middle. I was kinda glad to see Sharper and Foreman gone. I mean, your MLB's should never, EVER say the defense is looking for a leader. I'm not too sure about Greenwood yet, but I like what I'm hearing about Peek being on the field more. He needs to learn to play a little smarter sometimes, and prove he can go all-out for 60 minutes, too. I like the fact that Capers isn't afraid to shake things up. If you don't perform, you hit the road. I hope that the BPA at our spot this year is mostly on the D side of the ball. THAT is where we need our help. Not on the O-line so much.

That`s what I`m talking about great post! In 3-4 you need good D-Line to pick up those big O-Line so LB`s can run free! Look at Ray Lewis he lost his huge DL`s after super bowl now he just another LB

Glad someone finally posted on here. I was starting to feel all bad about myself

I agree that our D is missing a good ROLB, but all of the LBs problems can't just fall on the D line. To me the problem is that our LBs cannot shed blockers and do not have enough pass rushing moves to get the job done. How can you say that Ray Lewis is just another LB, not having the d line he had, has made him a better LB. Since the super bowl win he has had career highs in tackles, ints and forced fumbles.

I didn't think I slammed the D-line all that hard. I think we have some good ones, but they are getting old in football years and the drop off in talent behind them is precipitous. I agree with everything else you have to say, though. My main point being that we need some ferocious LB's inside AND out. The Defense as a whole needs to get a little more of a chip on its shoulder and start imposing its will on oppossing offenses. We may have most of the right starting personnel right now, but we're sorely lacking in quality depth. I've heard all I can stand about the offensive line. I want to see the main priority on defense in this draft.

I'm just saying that a lot of people bash the d line and I think that they are getting a raw deal. It's like people expect them to tie up all 5 of the o linemen. I mean even mike vrable and joey porter, have to beat a few blocks.

LMAO!!!! No kidding. I think they're getting some fire-breathers on D and I think they'll draft the same. It just seems like we've been lacking a fire-breathing leader to inspire the rest of the D. I had hoped Sharper would do it, but he was looking around for the same thing. Gonna be an interesting side note when we play Seattle this year.

Yea I think Everyone is looking to WONG to be that leader now that the other vets are gone from our LB core. Wong being the last starting LB from our 02 LB squad still here should have the knowledge and the ability to lead.

Maybe we didnt have a leader here because all LBs came in at the same time and no one stepped up to the role When you pick up young guys it takes a while for those young guys to get older and become leaders on D.

I would like to see more speed at LB and more quality depth at DT

I'll take marginal speed with a Mike Tyson mentality. I want to see some anger and some fire on defense. Let's make oppossing RBs and WRs AFRAID to come at us.Play on our toes instead of our heels. I want toothless guys like Jack Lambert or Jack Ham. Just plain mean. I can see Peek or Babin doing that but not Wong. Wong is a good player, but he seems like a nice guy on and off the field.

There are different forms of leadership. Someone has to make the smart decisions and get the D in the right formation-i.e. smart performance. That is a kind of leadership Wong should have. There is also a cheerleading/mean leadership to inpire people to emotional performance. Peek/Dunta have that and possibly also Babin--Walker did in 2002. That kind of leadership is secondary--t is good to have someone individually inspiring, but that doesn't really make up for being out of position/not well trained, etc. You get in position to make the most of any athlete and then make the best of a good situation by inspired performance. A rare instance where their is no vice versa--the best athletes in the world will still suck if out of position. In the best of both worlds you get both those kinds of players in one, but that is rare--see, Ray Lewis--emotional leader who studies game film all week long.

Find a professional wrestler and kidnap Ray Lewis!!!!!

Good post!

Im not gonna say that Jamie Sharper wasnt doing a good job for us, but he was way too passive for the type of defense we need right now. We need a Trotter, Lewis, Urlacher type of linebacker that attacks the line of scrimage and can break into the backfield and make stops. I love watching Jamie Sharper and he is one of my favorite linebackers, but he would just sit there and let the backs run to him b4 making the tackle. We need some intensity in our LB core, and hopefully Peek and Greenwood will bring that!
