The Five Stages of Texans Fan Grief

ziggy29

Veteran
(1) Denial. (Watch Texans get ripped on opening day by the Steelers). Come on. We can't be that bad, are we? Certainly we've had to improve in another off season. Must have been just a bad game.

(2) Anger. (Watch the Rosencopter start to melt down against Indy on 10/5.) COME ON, SAGE! You have a big lead. DON'T do anything else too stupid or heroic. Just protect the damn ball and get some FIRST DOWNS!

(3) Bargaining. (See the Texans on the cusp of completing the Rosencopter meltdown on 10/5.) Please, God. We've suffered for so long. Just please help us find a way not to blow this game as well, and I'll go to church next Sunday before the game...

(4) Depression. (See the Texans get blasted by the Ravens.) These guys are really terrible. I hate that my team is so, so dismal. My friends who are Cowboys fans and Tacks/VY fans are making my life miserable. Time for another beer.

(5) Acceptance. (See Rosencopter start to drive the Texans down the field in the last two minutes of today's Colts game.) It's okay, Sage will throw a pick or someone will fumble. Hey, wait -- they made a play... still plenty of time, we know it will end badly. Wow, another first down. You know it's going to fall short, though. Oops, way to go Sage -- there it is, nice pick right into the hands of a defender. It's so much easier to take this when you aren't deluded into thinking they might actually win...

Very true.

Ive gotten so that I dont even watch the game all in one sitting anymore... ill watch half of the first quarter then find other things to do for a while so that I can come back and fast forward through the slow parts.

Today I watched two episodes of scrubs during the game.. this allowed me to skip all the commercials and "lollygagging" that goes on between downs.

A horrible performance is more easily accepted when you dont waste alot of time sitting there and letting it build up. Fast forwarding is the equivalent of pulling a bandaid off really quick rather than agonizing over it as you try to carefully remove it.

Muting can also ease the pain. I do not care to hear all the audibles of Peyton nor the play by play guys sounding so excited about how the Colts must have found something in the running game with Addai in the second half.

At least the announcers weren't much talking about the "Peyton Manning comeback magic" after the first Indy game like they so often do about him. They knew Manning didn't take it away as much as Sage and Company gave it to them.

I'm making pasta and shrimp for supper. Then I'm going to watch some old SG-1 DVDs from their early seasons when they were good.

Oh wait, what were we talking about?

I'm gonna end up watching some Oilers games from '79... should I go with the Skins or the first Bengals game?

I didn't see the one that accounts for where I'm at right now.

I wanted to leave the house so bad after this game, that I volunteered to go shopping with my wife today knowing full well that it was gonna suck. I didn't even wait for her to invite me.

13. Realizing there were better options than going shopping with the wife and having an even worse day......could have been watching more football.

14. Tell oneself too not watch Texans on Sunday cause they always lose or due bad when watching and for Texans success you will not watch the game hoping they do better

15. Check Texans game every 15min on iphone.

16. Amazed Texans are in the game(today's) in the 4qtr.

17. Can't resist excitement and Turn on game with Texans having the ball is 1:46 left

18. Texans loses and jinx remains

Man the OP nailed it. That pretty much sums me up. I just think about waiting all those freaking long months for the season to finally get under way. One thing is for certain, I don't care what anyone says, who gets on what magazine cover, or who we bring in, I refuse to have any false hope like I did last off season. This season has been a crushing blow.

Go______________!!! (fill in second favorite NFL team here)

Yah I forget which season it was that broke me of the "getting excited for next year" bug.. but its been a couple offseasons since I bothered getting my hopes up.

The state of the Texans no longer has any real effect on me.. I figure if I just dont bother to get myself excited.. I will be pleasantly surprised when we finally do have that breakout year.

Plus.. I really dont want to be that 90 year old man that they interview who says "ive been waiting for the super bowl for 70 years". When I see something like that i just feel a profound sadness for that person and their city.

Some day.. a Houston football team is going to win the Super Bowl.. hopefully in my lifetime.. but im not gonna get my hopes up.

i come into to every game knowing we are a middle of the pack team

right now were are not in the middle of the pack league but i know we can get there with ease

We gots some players that can ball its just we dont have enough give it some time we are still young IMO only a 6 year franchise

That is exactly what I do! Only way to watch anymore. I made some cookies and did laundry and then FF'd thru all the Colts' offensive downs.

Your definition of "middle of the road" must be different than mine.

Average isn't much of a goal.

I'd like to say America was actively involved in WWII for four years, but I understand building a football team is hard.

8. Shoot something. :shoot:

I have an uncle who is one of the most dedicated and fanatical hunters in the state of Texas. He hunts everything in and out of state that you can get a license for.

I used to think that it was just a hobby gone WAY overboard, but now as an adult and seeing how his wife is....I think he just hunts to kill stuff to keep from doing harm to her. So with that example in mind, I guess it is therapeutic to kill stuff to relieve stress and frustration.

Go Texans
