Who is the best running back in the AFC South?

Tune into AFC Playbook on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET for the results.

Steve Slaton, Texans 6%

Joseph Addai, Colts 13%

Chris Johnson, Titans 50%

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars 31%

Total Votes: 70787

I know Chris Johnson is a big reason the Tacks are undefeated but has what he's done this season overshadowed what MJD and Addai have done the last 3 seasons? Methinks these are the people who didn't vote Mario into the pro bowl. Its simply ridiculous that Johnson gets 50% of the total votes.

PS: I voted for MJD.

I think "at this moment" this poll is about right. Things change all the time and this poll might not even look accurate by the end of the season I admit but today, November 14th, 2008 I can't argue with it.

It's a straight question and not a lifetime achievement award so if taken that way then it's pretty accurate.

For this year's contributions to their respective teams (and taking records into account), I'd say it's pretty much spot-on.

I voted for Chris Johnson.

but has what he's done this season overshadowed what MJD and Addai have done the last 3 seasons?
I don't really see how the past 3 seasons are relevant given the fact that Johnson was in college at the time. How's it fair to punish him for being a rookie?

He's the best RB in the AFC South right now, hands down. And that's the question in the poll.

I dunno, are we back to automatically anointing track guys as the best backs
in the NFL ?

Chris Johnson was never a back like that in college. There is no comparison between him and Bush besides speed (I'm assuming that is the comparison you were hinting at).

He has always run with power. Just because he runs a 4.2 or whatever doesn't automatically mean he is soft like Bush.

The guy is a very good runner, track or not. He's a football player.

Texans fans seem happy with their track guy Jacoby Jones, even though he can't earn his way onto the field as a receiver. Johnson plays most of the game, giving up goal line carries to Lendale mostly as a way to keep White motivated as far as I can see.

Right now he's playing the best, is on the fast track to get OROY and is the hot ticket right now. It doesn't surprise me he's leading but I am surprised he's go 1/2 the votes. I like MJD the best of all of them.

Call me old fashioned but when I look at a poll like that I think, "Which back would I pick 1st?"

Chris Johnson, in his 9 professional games could one day be that back but at this point he isn't. There are still too many unknowns. What happens when a team figures out how to shut him down? Will he be able to adapt? What happens when the Titans aren't hitting on all cylinders and the team hits a rough patch like all the other teams in the south? Will he still be productive?

He has shown speed to burn, but he still hasn't shown me that i'd take him over MJD (the guy who should be getting all the publicity as the most versatile RB in the NFL that Reggie Bush is currently getting).

At this point in the poll I take MJD. Maybe this time next season i'd take Johnson...or Slaton? Only time will tell.

If it was a draft and I could choose any, I'd pick Addai. He is the best stand alone back in the whole group]
He's quick, shifty, can get the short yards, catches, and blocks well

Ya I would agree with that as well.... That is the only reason the Titans are 9-0 right now, is because they have such a good running game (and defense obviously) But they dont have much for recievers.... Who knows how long their running game will last for though :P

Actually, I'll make the admission here that maybe I'm misinformed about Johnson ? My knowledge about him is limited to what a local radio guy said after he saw him play in a bowl game and said his speed was extraordinary but he was mainly a track guy who would have problems making it in the NFL as a running back. And then in this thread there was a reference to his speed, which sounded as if it was his primary virtue ? Maybe I'm selling him short, I dunno ?
And Bush was never the fastest guy in his Draft like this guy, though he's fast. But we've concluded that Bush is not an NFL running back. Somehow I got the impression that Johnson was Whites NFL "lightning" partner in the NFL in Nashville, but maybe he's a real back with a broader skill-set than Whites college partner ?
