Really Andre Ware?

Yankee_In_TX

Dance Lindsay!
Maybe he would have called the other games the same way - but he railed Ohio State for a late in the game fake punt against Northwestern.

Also, with time expiring in the game, instead of taking a knee, Tressel let his second string take a snap - a run up the middle which became a TD. Tressel was mad (sigh) and Andre railed us for not taking a knee.

What do commentators say when Stoops and Carroll run up the score so high??

Andre railed us for not taking a knee.
Maybe an early case of Alzheimer's has set in? As Andre seems to have forgotten how he and his Coogs would routinely run up the score against the opposition on the way to Ware's Heisman trophy acceptance speech.

I've really enjoyed his Big Ten coverage, but was a little, well,a LOT surprised that he was being harsh on us.

Especially a team who dropped in the polls early on because we refused to run up the score when we had ample chances.

I think Ware is a great commentator. Didn't catch the game today though, so I couldn't comment on that.

BCS makes teams run up the score. Margin of victory is a factor in who goes where.

10 minutes to go, 4 and 2, we let our senior punter do a fake punt, he had always wanted to. Set up a TD drive. 38-10.

Last drive of the game, we have our second string O Line, RB, and others (our second string QB got pulled because he went 3 an out a few drives earlier). 12 seconds or so, a simple run up the middle goes 16 yards for a TD, 45-10.

Margin of victory doesn't count in the computers.

But it makes a heavy impact in the coaches poll. Because the coaches can't watch the games (they are kinda busy), all they see is box scores.

It's always been that way. BCS has nothin to do with it.

I like Andre Ware. The guy us relentless in his work and his work ethic. I've seen the guy call a game on a Saturday night for ESPN (I think in Kansas) and then fly from there to call a noon game in Jacksonville for the Texans, the next morning. Thats pretty tough...

On another note, I do find it ironic that he can criticize a team for running up the score *cough* 95-21 over SMU *cough* 41-9 over Texas *cough*... .:pirate:

95-21 over SMU

Wow, REALLY? Though at one point is it like playing Madden, and you try really hard to break 100?

I really like Andre calling the games. He's usually very unbiased and always well prepared. I think the OSU/NW game was just really boring, they started talking about random topics, like minority NCAA caoches, trading recipes, tips to clean the hard to reack parts of your stove (I kid, I mid)...

Wow, apparently a lot of people e-mailed Andre (I'm guessing mostly Buckeye fans).

Marc said it's ok for USC because they need BCS style points, but OSU doesn't because we've lost twice.

Huh?

If that is really a true statement - that it's ok for teams "in the hunt" to run up the score but not for teams outside the championship picture, then I really think the current system is screwy (which it is).

There should be a playoff and everyone knows it except for the College Presidents. I am not for one just to line the pockets of the BCS conferences. If all the division I leagues aren't included its crap, there is already a huge money difference in the leagues as it is. If its not going to include all the conferences then I hope there are 10 one loss teams every year so there is so much bitching that the national champ doesn't have any merit what so ever.

That 95-21 game has gotten a lot of attention over the years, and people continue to assert that UH was running up the score. Pardee and Ware have both publicly stated that they actually were trying not to score. SMU was just simply that pathetic.

The BCS isn't the problem in that scenario though.

"Style points" only count in the human polls.

Yes, the coaches poll is included in the BCS. But even before the BCS was created the coaches poll was doing this crap.

That was my point. It's not the entire system that is flawed. It's the coaches poll (just one part).

I think the coaches poll should be removed from the BCS and the AP poll put back in if possible.

It wasn't an attack on Ohio State. What he said was geared more towards Tressel's reaction..........which was true. If Tressel really didn't want them to score any more, he could've just as easily put them in the victory formation once they got in the red zone.

I mean, u send a play into the huddle with guys who don't play much, if at all...what'd Tressel think they were gonna do?

I got no problem with it.

OSU had their backups in. They weren't intentionally trying to score. They were just running plays. It is up to NW to stop them.

The USC thing....they were beating both Washington schools by like a hundred at halftime. Put your backups in and keep running plays.

If your second string players are still scoring on your opponent then its not really your fault is it?

If the other team expects you to start kneeling the ball in the 3rd quarter then they should just forfeit.

I hear you... I merely brought it up because of the national perception of that game. In fact, SMU had just come off the death penalty that year. So they were in essence a brand new team, with 74 freshman and limited scholarships (if any). IIRC, The Coogs actually had the ball late in the game on SMU's 20(ish) yard line and were instructed to take a knee...

The college ones. I just don't think he's that good. There are much better ones out there.

I can't speak to his Texans games, though. The radio broadcasts never sync up to the TV broadcasts.

Listen, I don't think the guy is bad - I just think he can be a lot better. Troy Aikman was probably the worst color guys EVER when he first started, and now he's one of the best.

Absolutely. The only time a lot of backups, QBs in particular, get game experience is in blowouts. How are they going to develop if you just kneel down every play?

Thanks. We can't really hear the commentary where we watch games, my dad conveyed that Andre was giving Tressel flak.
