Mock Draft-Rounds 1-3

Hey guys new member here and i need your oppinons on this. The guy from futureofthenfl.com has us taking OT Alex Barron in the 1st round, DE Matt Roth in the 2nd round, and DT Ronald Fields and RB Vernond Morency in the 3rd round, if this actually happend would you guys feel good about these picks.

It depends on who had already been taken, but I hate the Barron pick, Roth doesn't really fit in a 3-4 IMO, and Ronald Fields and Morency are decent picks...

I could see it happening. I would rather grab an ILB with my 2nd pick. Roth while a good prospect and good value in the 2nd round, is more of an OLB, DE i guess.

none of these draft sites seem to have as deep of understanding of the Texans needs and who best fits them as our own fans right here on this board.

its not a bad draft by them but it fails to address needs with the BPA at each draft position. Demarcus Ware has clearly become the top 3-4 OLB in the draft for the Texans system. I'm not as big on Merriman because of his lack of coverage skills, hopefully we'll all see Demarcus in a Texan uniform, just think of him as a bigger version of Derrick Johnson, more physical & just as quick coming off one corner and Babin the other. throw in Peek with Greenwood on all out blitzes, leave the corners in single coverage & I'd say our sack ratio increase significantly.

anyway this is my final board for the Texans, I'd like a prime time playmaker at the #2 WR position and Rosco Parish with AJ a pair of Hurricanes at wideout for the 2nd round selection would be a great fit together.

3rd round take a talented CB with both speed and size like Stanley Wilson to groom under Glenn and ILB that is fundamentally sound, wraps up with outstanding speed sideline to sideline like Matt McCoy. these are all long term fits that make more sense to me as a Texans fan

Merriman has played OLB before, so he has experience dropping back in coverage...Ware, on the other hand, played DE throughout college, so he has no experience dropping into coverage...I'm not really sold on either of them, but I wouldn't complain if we took either of them...

Merriman has played OLB in a 3-4, but he still doesn't have much experience dropping back because he was almost always rushing the passer. Also, he only has about 1.5 years of starting experience at the most.

Merriman had a great junior year but he is a big risk. I would be more comfortable drafting him later in the first round, not in the top 15.

Merriman only played the "Leo" slot, a hybrid end-linebacker position @ 230 lbs his sophmore year, he was switched to a 4-3 defensive end his Junior season with the addition of 15 more pounds of muscle (Maryland switched from the 3-4 defense this past year). Between then and the combine he added another 24 lbs Merriman (6-2, 274) was quite impressive. He ran his 40s in 4.69 and 4.66. He ran the short shuttle in 4.24 seconds. He had a 40-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-1 broad jump. at this rate he could wind up being a DT before all is said and done & eventually his speed will reflect that extra weight. seriously he is a ture 4-3 DE, it will be interesting to see a team like Dallas project him as a 3-4 OLB if they revamp their system, I would love to use play action on them all day.

Getting back to Demarcus Ware he has the speed, athletic ability & experience to cover TE's & Running Backs in coverage. On March 17, ran his 40s in 4.52 and 4.53 outside on FieldTurf in 49-degree weather. That compares well to his times of 4.57 and 4.56 at the combine. Ware also did position drills. Seven teams were there to watch him, including Texans coach Dom Capers and Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. I view Demarcus Ware as the top rated OLB in the draft, if the Texans are lucky he will fall right into their laps.

Taken from the HPF interview with Mike Perrin of the Birmingham News...I'm sure he can learn to be a decent cover guy, but this quote is coming from a guy that saw most, if not all, of his games in college...I'm really on both sides of the fence when it comes to Ware...I like his potential but I'm not sure he'd be an immediate impact guy...It may take him a while to adjust from the Sun Belt Conference to the NFL...

believe it our not i like the scenario of our mock draft, i think the biggest needs for this team is on both sides of the line, and that would sure adress the issue ! Gotta get them sooner or later, miswell make it sooner.

I'll accept the home town discount thanks he has speed and is coachable, one of my favorite traits that Dunta Robinson demonstrated last year, I'm thinking the two of them together would be something special. from my scouting reports OURLADS describes Demarcus as "having experience dropping into coverage. shows suddennes of inside charge, outside pass rush, stunts & slant moves."

nothing noted as far as Merriman's coverage abilites, if their where I'm sure they would have mentioned something.
