Texans should bring him (Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila) in to workout. would feel a little more certain about it if Sherman was still here but still a pass rushing specialist remains a dire need.

In leaving the organization, Gbaja-Biamila issued the following statement: "My nine years as a Green Bay Packer have been a blessing that is beyond words. I thank God for bringing me to this first-class organization and first-class community. During my time here, I've built relationships with a number of people in the Packer family. The front office executives, G.M.s, coaches, past and present players, the enormous support and administrative staff plus the greatest fans in football, all have helped make my time here truly special and I am thankful for that. It has been a very positive experience. I was able to build a family here and grow with a community that I call home. Again, I've been truly blessed. I don't know what my football future holds, but one thing I've realized is that football is more than a game - it's about building relationships and changing lives. One of the commitments I've had throughout my career has been to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and that is something that I intend on doing whether on the field or not. With Dlmen you have to consider the style of play. Guys who rely on technique and strength play at pretty high levels well into their 30s, Michael Strahan would be an example.

Guys who rely on quickness and speed around the corner generally have shorter periods of elite play. KGB is this type of player.

Essentially, KGB is N.D. Kalu with a better history of performance, and year or two younger. He is not a top level pass rusher any more and was never good against the run. Is he better than what the Texans have now rushing the passer? Not as sure as his reputation would suggest.
 
Texans often sign (even fringe players) before they face former team. Houston vs GB Dec 7th Lambeau Field :)
 
He had 9.5 sacks last year. He's fallen off a lot this year though. I would give him a look if the Texans think he has anything left.
 
If he had anything left, he'd still be with the team - the Packers aren't exactly loaded on the D-line... but they're probably better off than us.

But hey, maybe a change of scenery would rejuvenate him? He's older, but he's not ancient. There's no way he wouldn't be an upgrade over Weaver given a few weeks to get in the system. I think that would mark the end of ND Kalu's time with the team, given that they play the same position and Kalu has been inactive several weeks in a row.

KGB will probably get a look somewhere else for a lot more than we're willing to offer though.

Packers are on the hook for something like 6.1 million. anything else would just be icing on the cake :money:
 
he could def be of use here......why not..................

is dline especially defensive end not the absolute weakest part of this team.??

it wouldnt hurt...thats for sure with a rotation of weaver, kalu, cochran we could use an experiment

he could fit the role we thought rosy colvin was gonna fit.........we brought him in so why not a traditional end with a resume like his....it wont cost much either

He displays very good anticipation at the snap. He has very quick hands and long arms, which allow him to get a lot of separation when rushing the passer. He has the athleticism to drop into underneath coverages off zone-pressure schemes. He's not real instinctive and is undersized. He does an excellent job in pursuit running down ball carriers from the backside, but can be a liability when teams run right at him. He is slow in recognition and getting into position to play with better leverage, hand placement and aggressiveness to take on blocking angles.

If we replace KGB for Weaver, we could make an already suspect part of our defense worse. And at 31, you have to wonder how much can he have left as a pass rusher? Now if this were training camp time, he's definitely a guy I'd bring into camp and see if he could earn a spot.

I'd get his cell number though.... just in case the injury bug hits us <knocks on wood>

(a) KGB isn't considered very good against the run. We already have issues in that area as it is.
(b) He's 31, how much does he have left? At best, he'd be a slightly younger (and probably quicker) version of N.D. Kalu. Then again, so was Stanley McGlover (remember him)
(c) He represents a 7.72 million dollar cap hit to the Packers; the salary cap gurus will have to explain how much of that - if any - we'd have to pick up.

but if one of our DEs comes up gimpy AND we don't have to pick up that entire $7.72 million....

Once a players clears waivers the team that signs him is only responsible for the amount in which he agrees to the contract. And since it is mid-year, in all reality the whole year is not guaranteed and he is paid on a weekly basis.
 
he seems like someone we could bring in to help in the pass rush rotation. i guess it would make more sense for a win now team. oh well. i like him.

if rosy colvin was gonna be a pass down specialist why not him?????
