3-4 Perspective

Texan Asylum

Hall of Fame
Tennessee Titans.....7 0 0
Jacksonville Jaguars..3 4 0
Indianapolis Colts.....3 4 0
Houston Texans.......3 4 0

Setting nestled in second place might appear to be tied with last, but from our perspective, as opposed to Indy's and Jax's, our's is a 3-4 looking upward, while their's is looking downward.

BIG difference when it comes to motivation!

The next time we play the opponents in our division, 2 of those 3 will be at home, where we are currently 3-1. Indy does NOT look frightening at all. Jax and Tenn are very winnable, IMO, especially at home. We could, for the first time in our history, garner a very respectable 2nd place finish in our division, with the future looking very BRIGHT for our boys and our franchise.

Who'da thunk it at 0-4?!

Perspective! A winning attitude is all in how you look at things, and translating it into the proper motivation.

I we win and either the Jets or Ravens lose next weekend, we will be tied for the final Wild Card spot halfway through the season.

I figured we would start off pretty bad and new a 1-4 start (assuming we had played Baltimore) while not good, can be overcome. We new the beginning of our schedule was attrocious so starting 0-4 didn't really surprise me. I know a lot of us were very disheartened for good reason, but we had a record that we new was a good possibily and we played 2 of those games VERY tightly. This winning streak has been great for the team and fans, and I really hope we can keep it up. Anywhere from a 6-10 record to a 10-6 is still possible. Although I'd figure when it's all said and done we'll be picking inbetween where we did in '07 and '08 (original spot).

I thought about this earlier this morning. While people predicted a 4-1 start, people didn't predict an overtime loss and giving up 21 in 4 minutes. I think that's why fans couldn't stomach it.

Not the way that defense is playing.......could be a good game, but as for right now if they played, not sure they could beat them !!

The game we already played in Tennessee's house was winnable. We had 6 possessions inside the Titan 20 and came away with 2 FGs, 1 TD, and three turnovers on downs. I'm counting the final int as a loss-on-downs play: Matt correctly threw the ball up for grabs as KVB was burying him; because it was fourth down with only a minute left, the only thing he could do was huck it and pray. The prayer turned into a TD for the other team which made the score deceptively lopsided.

Immediately after that game, Kubiak began devoting more practice time on redzone offense, and the results have been outstanding: 70% of our redzone forays have ended in TDs since the Titan game. Had we merely hit the league average (roughly 50%) in Nashville, that is an entirely different ballgame.

We can beat those guys.

That is what I was thinking, but being up here, I could not watch the game. I was merely relying on memory, as well as trying to find an article covering the game. I thought we did rather well against them in their house, and figure with a fresh outlook, AND being here at home, we might possibly surprise them, the NFL, AND even ourselves.

Time will tell.

I was one of those that predicted a 1-4 start. So, we're pretty much on track with where a lot of people predicted, but it would be nice to be doing better than the predictions. That's why both the Jags and Colts game still leave a bad taste in my mouth.... Both winnable.

Same here. While I agree with Watchman's original post, this is the place I always come back to where I say to myself we should be at least 4-3.

Glad to see our team responded the way the did after that colts game, it shows a lot of metal, and one reason why I think we pull out the win on the road this week. Our team is growing up before our eyes and learning how to finish.

Indeed the three wins after the Indy debacle shows some sack...

I think the record is pretty much the way it should be.....You can say the Indy game was blown, sure.... But then you can say the last second TD by Miami could have been a loss if they didn't go down the field their last possesion. 3-4 is where this team should be at...would have, could have, should have could be said for any team at any time... I am glad with 3-4, even though I am not overly excited about the way they have been played, but beating teams you should win, Miami, Detroit and Cincy are things all good teams do, now it's time to just win the division games and this team is on the verge of being a team that others need to worry about....

We are 1-2 in ridiculously scary-close games. If everything works out, we'll win one more. So this is a "4-4" team I guess at the moment?

We can beat Tenn., especially since we play them next here at Reliant. And we really need to, because we are already down on the divisional tiebreakers.

There are 8 teams ahead of us in the WC race, and of course, the 3 division leaders. We've beaten one of those teams (Dolphins). We've lost to the Jags, Colts, and Steelers. We'll get a crack at the Browns and Ravens. We have a long way to go.

I agree. We've earned our 3-4 record. Here's what I'd add though.

This is a team that has found its identity. It believes in itself now. It knows who it is and how to win. I think we still need to prove it on the road but I'm confident we will.

We are one of the 10 best teams in the NFL right now, without a doubt. I don't know if we can get to 10 wins this year or not. I do know that it's going to be a hell of race to get there. We're young, healthy, on a roll, and pretty damn good!

I don't disagree, well at least not that much. I understand what you are saying, but I consider the same thing the Jax and the Miami game could have gone either way. We won one and lost the other, so this equal out IMO. The reason I get back to 4-3 in my head is because those types of meltdowns are so very rare and for all intents and purposes Indy got their butts handed to them that day. It is what it is though, that's for sure.

Great post, I agree.

That is why I believe we are looking up from 3-4, while Jax and Indy are looking down. It was a given that they would be much better right now than they are, while we are where we were expected to be, if not worse.

While the records of wins and losses are the same, the outlook or perspective of where each of our teams are at, and the direction we are headed, is dramatically different!

3-4 is our record and it's earned. But, here's what I'll also say...

We've looked like the better team for 5 weeks in a row. It takes a talented team to win a game when they lose the turnover battle by 3. We're young and have no history of winning, so these growing pains that we suffered in the Indy game are unavoidable. But I tell you what: I'd rather be a Texan fan right now and for the next few years than a Jacksonville or Indianapolis fan... Who thought we could say that 3 months ago?
