Trade for Abraham (speculation)

Would the Jets consider a trade, our first round pick for John Abraham if Barron fell to that spot. They need a LT and Barron is the best in the draft, and there are rumors they want to trade Abraham. He would be an ideal fit at OLB for us and we know what he can due and it wouldn’t be as much of a gamble as drafting a college kid. He is still young, has played LB and is from South Carolina ( that still interest me that McNair favors players from his college), the only red flags are the injuries but he is still one of the best pass rushers in the league.

And the fact the guy was straight up and said he was dogging an injury because he didnt want to play, get hurt again and lose some FA money.

If the Jets cant clear up his contract situation he'll probably be released . No reason to trade your #1 pick for a player in that situation .
Also ..... The point of the Texans recent moves @ the LB positions points to adding youth and speed to the position . His salary is another concern , why would the Texans take on his salary when Sharper was released mainly because of money .

In the event they do make a trade for Abraham a number one pick is FAR too much , even giving a 3rd round pick at this point is a reach . You can trade a #1 pick for a player like Randy Moss who can change the game on any given play but Abraham doesnt fit into that category of player . :thumbdown

Arrington is said to be upset with the Redskins over not supporting him when he was injured and a few other things before that. With the way their defence played without him last year would they consider moving him ? and should we consider trying to get him ?. Maybe not now but I think he is a free agent after this year. As far as Abraham he would be a steady player for us but I don't think he would be a game breaker and would not warrant a 1st rounder. :thumbdown

I would have to disagree, Abraham is only 26 and is about to enter the prime of his career and can be a major force in a 3-4. he is averaging 8 sacks a year as an undersized DE in a 4-3. His last year at S. Carolina he played OLB so he has experience in coverage and standing up. With him we know what we are going to get and that is consistant pressure and double digit sacks. We need a pass rusher desperatly in this defense in order for it to be successful and Abraham is a better pass rusher than any incoming rookie. I don't think the Jets would franchise him if he wasn't worth at least one 1st rd pick, if not more. And yes I do think he could change the momentum of a game by getting a timely sack or even just pressuring the quterback into making a mistake in a crucial situation.

I was unaware of his sack total that is impressive. Can he tackle ? if so you might be right. At only 26 he could be a gamebreaker for us. I was thinking Ellis is all they had.
