The Texans placed running back Darius Walker on waivers today and activated running back Ryan Moats from the practice squad. Walker was active for five of the six games this season but didn't get a carry playing behind Steve Slaton and Chris Taylor and later Slaton and Ahman Green.

Moats, 5-8, 215, was signed to the practice squad on Oct. 7. After Andre Davis underwent finger surgery this week, coach Gary Kubiak mentioned Moats as a candidate for kickoff returns. As it stands now, Jacoby Jones will be the primary kickoff returner.

The Dallas native Moats, played at Louisiana Tech and was drafted in the third round by Philadelphia in 2005. He was a reserved with the Eagles for two seasons. He missed last season with a broken ankle.

Moats, 25, was waived by the Eagles in August. He was signed to Arizona's practice squad and released by the Cardinals on Oct. 1. He was a good special teams players for the Eagles who returned a few kickoffs.

Its a shame Walker never seemed to get to carve out a niche for himself here. It seemed whenever he got an opportunity he made the most of it :(

Just guessing here....someone is putting some heat on Fred Bennit. I wonder what the heck he did ? Gonna be fun watching Molden grow up.

He's being payed...and he's still going to be there Tuesday or when ever. Just got caught up in the numbers. I don't think this is adios. This is stay close to the phone. We need a roster spot.

I don't think Walker is gone for good. He'll be back soon (I hope). He wasn't half-bad when he played for us. Wonder why he didn't get carries in front of Chris Taylor, who did the equivalent of zero.

Man that really sucks, but what can you do? I was a fan of Walker the little time he spent on the field.

Also I guess no more Wednesdays With Walker...

Now Green will get hurt this week(hopefully not) and the Texans will be in it deep and regretting this. I don't think Sapp or Moats can carry any of the load.

The "Moates Kid", as Kubiak refers to him as, has one huge attribute over
Darius Walker. That is SPECIAL TEAMS.

Darius is, was, and always WILL BE, a Special Teams ZERO.
I love Darius, but I also love the fact that Joe Marciano gets premium
talent to put on his special teams units.

I also wonder what Bennett did to be placed so low on the depth chart, but where is he mentioned in the article?

I've been expecting this move. the Texans need a proven kick-off returner with Andre Davis hurt, guessing they don't want to expose Slaton or feel Jacoby can absorb the punishment & still hang on to the ball.

Walkers downfall was that he didn't play special teams, as a back-up thats something the Texans require so they went ahead & finally made the decision.

Moates, if healthy can be a weapon

hmmm....
Don't like seeing DW go. He did everything that was asked, best I can tell. Its just that Green is staying healthy longer than any of us would have bet. And Moats, if he's fully recovered, is faster than Walker and Slaton has shown what speed brings to the table.
I hope you guys that don't think we've seen the last of Darius Walker are right.

i just never could figure out what is so wrong about him? it's clear that Kubiak always had issues with him and i repsect that. he saw more of him on a day to day basis than any of us can speculate, but when on the field he always seemed to perform. I never saw him "ineffective" persay but he was decent. everyone says he's slow but it's not as if he was getting nothing done. he seemed to be as effective as taylor was other than taylors one "big game" against the browns. i have always been in taylors camp and never in walkers but I just can't figure out why he couldn't ever seem to keep a roster spot.

do i think he's gone for good? no. do i think he'll play for the texans? no.

toodle loo darius. i hated wednesdays with walker... why is greenwood on the field? is he really that dumb or is it a language thing?

Didn't know about Chris Taylor, but I won't be shedding any tears over either one. I hope Moats proves out because I think Ahman will be the next one to go now that Slaton is carrying the load.

Remember all those backs that were supposed to be work horses for us this past off-season ?

We're one senior moment away from a Slaton/Moats led backfield....
