Rolle Call?
For the second time in the last seven days, the Texans showed heightened interest in a player that probably won't last to their thirteenth overall selection in the NFL Draft.
Cornerback Antrel Rolle visited the Texans in Houston on Thursday according to NFL.com. The report comes just one week after the team hosted Texas linebacker Derrick Johnson at Reliant Park.
A first-team Associated Press All-American, Rolle's physical play and work ethic at the University of Miami earned him the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award for 2004. If selected by the Texans, it would mark the second consecutive year that the team drafted a cornerback with their first pick. Dunta Robinson of South Carolina was taken tenth overall by the Texans a year ago.
General manager Charley Casserly has shown prior interest in Rolle. Interviewed on ESPN790-AM, he said that he had personally scouted the Hurricane prospect on a couple of occasions, including both a practice and a game.
As a Texan, Rolle would be able to breathe a sigh of relief. He was quoted in a recent interview on the league's official website saying that Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson, a teammate of Rolle's at Miami two years ago, was the toughest player he faced in college. Johnson was the Texans' first round pick in 2003.
