No surprise. I personally felt Jerry should have suspended him but I don't run the team and he didn't call me to ask my opinion so....

I wish Jerry would cut him but oh well. Still think it is a little steep for something that was a non-arrest but with his idiocy and what he was promised they had to lay down the law.

Speaking with reporters at the NFL meetings in Florida, Jerry Jones said he was sorry about the negative publicity that Adam Jones has caused the Cowboys and the league. He almost sounded like a man who is ready to wash his hands of Adam Jones for good.

"I am disappointed," Jerry Jones said. "I really felt there was a good plan in place, but everybody has to cooperate to make a good plan work and we just didn't get it done."

When asked how much time he's spent talking to Goodell on this issue, Jerry Jones said, "Far too many times."

"Far too much investment in the commissioner's time and my time over the last several days," Jerry Jones said. "I think we've talked on this matter a minimum of five or six and face to face four or five times.

"The type of investment in time that my office and I have made on a personal basis, it is disappointing. But the promise of a good ending always will get my attention and so many times will get my effort."

Jones added: "I am sorry that we've had the negative publicity that is the price that we pay for the team, as well as the NFL. I regret that."

I seem to remember that just a couple of days ago, Stretch called this a "nothing" and "ridiculous." Reminds me of the old days. Hide things under the bed, and maybe they won't exist........until someone looks under the bed and then there is "disappointment." Not for the right reasons, but for being "uncovered." NOWWW comes out the "disappointment." The real disappointment should not be felt indirectly, but from consequences taken directly to the ownership. IMHO:tiphat:

It was "nothing" and "ridiculous" up until the point that the Cowboy higher ups came to the realization that Pac had more then likely violated the terms of his probation instead of just team/NFL rules. There really is no way to call that ridiculous and save face (insert Jerry Joke:eek:), especially under the circumstances that Pac has put himself in time and time again.

At an NFL meeting in St. Petersburg, Fla., Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he had spoken to the player, whom he described as "devastated" by the news. Jerry Jones last week said the team wouldn't discipline the cornerback.

"We respect and support the decision of the commissioner," he said in a statement released by the team. "I regret that this issue has brought negative attention to the Cowboys and the NFL.

"We move forward with a very clear knowledge as to what the process will be for a possible reinstatement. Adam is well aware of where he stands and what he has to do."

The league said reinstatement will depend on strict compliance with treatment plans by the NFL and the Cowboys and an evaluation by "clinical experts."

The player's agent, Worrick Robinson, didn't immediately return messages left with his assistant and on his cell phone.

Dallas police said officers responded at about 11 p.m. on Oct. 7. Officers said the matter was over by the time they arrived and that some hotel employees reported overhearing a tussle in the men's restroom in the lobby.

The player and his bodyguard, part of a security detail provided by the Cowboys to be with him at all times, said everything was OK. Police said both were driven from the hotel by an acquaintance, and the bodyguard didn't want to press charges.

Jerry Jones said last week the scuffle was the result of back-and-forth banter between the player and his bodyguard that got out of hand. A small glass item on the vanity in the restroom was damaged.

Stretch is so full of it. If anyone caught it, in his most recent interview, to lessen Putzman's responsibility, he tried to make Putzman the victim by inserting that the bodyguard took the first swing......contrary to all other resports. The surgery not only distorted his face, but wreaked havoc with his brain.:mcnugget:

Well according to multiple reports and interviews with the guard nothing did happen. They can only go on that. Why is it on Jones?He did everything possible to help a guy turn things around and stay within the structure of his reinstatement and the guy was a dumbass and failed. He gets a draft pick back and they go back to business.

It is obvious that Putzman was into the "juice" when the fight occurred. Obviously, alcohol restriction was a specific requirement for his initial reinstatement. He has been wisked away to a Dallas ALCOHOL REHAB. That's why his fellow girls have not been able to find him Evidently, a month before Goodell makes a preliminary statement on Putzman's status (at least 4 week suspension)=1 month of rehab.

I am convinced that after 1 month of rehab, Putzman will be good to go back out there.............when in handcuffs and with access to only juicer produced juices. Take that last one back. He'll probably be using his new Jack LaLane machine...........and letting it stand long enough to ferment.

The Dallas police officer who responded to the fight involving cornerback Pacman Jones and one of his babysitters is now the subject of an internal investigation regarding the sufficiency of his report.

According to WFAA, the department’s command staff believes that Officer Rodney Allen intentionally omitted key facts from the report, presumably to protect Jones. [See DMN LINK for story]

WFAA has obtained a copy of Allen’s statement explaining the situation. And the statement is, well, bizarre. It suggests that Allen was at the scene even before the fight started. According to the statement, Allen was there when Jones arrived at the hotel.

And that makes us wonder whether Pacman’s ’round-the-clock security detail included not only off-duty police officers but also on-duty cops known to be favorable to the franchise, who would then be able to respond to any problems that might arise, and discreetly handle the situation.

By, for example, not even mentioning Pacman’s name in the report.

Something about this stinks, and it’s good that the powers-that-be in Dallas are trying to get to the bottom of it.

If that report is correct than it really isn't a deterrent for signing bad players...heck any player on any team could get hit with it for a couple of guys roiding up or anything that draws a game suspension. Of course maybe it stops a guy like PM but overall you can't tell a league full of people that no one will be suspended.

For each game Adam Jones misses because of his indefinite suspension, the Cowboys will have to pay the NFL $20,588 up to a maximum of $200,000.

As part of the NFL's personal conduct policy teams are required to pay the league the "salary forfeited by players who are suspended without pay under the personal conduct, substance abuse, or steroids policy, beginning with a team's second such suspension of a league year."

Because practice squad wide receiver Mike Jefferson was suspended last month for four games for violating the league steroids policy, Jones' suspension this week is costing the Cowboys money.

Jones was making a base salary of $700,000 this year.

My initial thought when reading the post on the subject of a fine was Oh dear, how many millions? Up to $200K to an organization is about equivalent to a $25 or less parking fine for me (probably closer to 25 cents).

Pacman is the biggest loser because after being off for a year without pay, coming in this year at $700K, and losing part of that, is the big ouch. Hope he gets his life together.

The fine is truly a joke and certainly no real deterrent to someone like Stretch. Just in the past week, the league announced several player fines (for mostly "verbal abuse" of the officials alone) ranging from $20,000 to $35,000 per player (Joey Porter, Dre Bly, Richie Incognito, Brian Urlacher).

In cases of multiple offenses like Putzman, the owner fines should be equivalent to the player's contract (including bonuses). The player would be less likely to pick up a huge contract maybe making him think twice for the "next time" .........and the owner would certainly think twice before taking on such a player. This would take away the "low risk, potential high return" that Stretch and Girls fans were so proud of.

Didn't that report say that he WOULD have to pay the league the equivalent of his contract? Unless I totally misread it that's the way I interpreted it.

That fine is not that big of a deal to a zillionaire like Jerry. Losing draft picks would be an entirely different matter.

I believe the owner is expected to pay the league for the salary that the player does not receive (during suspension time), eg., 4 month suspension=4months of salary (not entire year).

Your idea about the draft pic is great! Are you sure that you aren't "spread the wealth around" Oboma in disguise?:D

Actually I think we were BOTH off. Here's a clarification of the Policy from PFT:

In response to Adam Schefter’s report regarding the new policy for fining teams with multiple player suspensions in the same league year, we’ve picked up some additional details from NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

First, the policy applies only to suspensions for non-football matters. Suspensions arising from on-field conduct don’t count.

Second, the fine formula is driven by the number of suspensions. For the first suspension that triggers a fine (i.e., the second suspension), the penalty is 25 percent of the player’s base salary for the duration of the suspension. For the second fine-inducing suspension in a given league year, the fine is one third of the player’s base salary for the term of the suspension, not to exceed $350,000. For the third suspension drawing a fine in a given league year, the penalty is half the player’s base salary for the term of the suspension, not to exceed $500,000.

Third, for repeat offenders under a given policy, the fine is doubled. That’s why the Cowboys are paying half of Pacman’s salary to the league, instead of 25 percent.

Fourth, Aiello also indicated that this rule, which ultimately became effective on August 1, is the same rule on which Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reported in late May. Per Marvez’s report, the rule was intended to take effect on June 1. “We later changed it to August 1 after making some modifications to the calculations and wanted to allow more time for it to be properly communicated,” Aiello told us via e-mail.

Fifth, and finally, the money collected will be used to fund drug and steroids programs, to Player Development programs, and to the Player Care Foundation, for retired player medical needs.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, in a Friday morning appearance on ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike In The Morning that was presumably aimed at promoting Sunday’s NFL game in London spent time answering questions about the Pacman Jones situation.

At one point, Goodell said that he’s “tired of talking about it right now.”

As he should be. Pacman remains a story only because Pacman can’t stay out of trouble. Still, Goodell says that Pacman could get another chance to play in the NFL, if he does what he’s supposed to do.

“He has to recognize his responsibility to play in the NFL,” Goodell said. “He has not made good decisions. I think after this latest incident it was clear to me there was something else going on that we need to evaluate and we need to address directly.”

Pacman reportedly has entered rehab for alcohol dependence.

“If he can deal with whatever issues he may have, handle his responsibilities, make good decisions, then he may have an opportunity to play again in the league,” Goodell said.

That said, we’re not sure alcohol is the problem with Pacman. We think the guy isn’t wired to appreciate and/or care about the connection between his conduct and the consequences flowing therefrom.
