How about some props for Jacoby?

What a momentum-changer when the Texans needed a boost...this kid has a flair for the dramatic...he was clutch on the punt return TD...once he gets consistent, he's going to be even better...:texflag:

I missed his run back live, but have seen it since several times. Nice. Good for JJ. If he steps up to his potential he's gonna be a weapon.

JJ, nice to see him run it home again, haven't seen that for a while...lets hope its the first of many this season, as we try and get the train back on track.

If he can do that every game :)

What I am dissapointed about is his lack of receptions as a reciever. Honestly I cant remember if any were thrown at him, but if there were, none were caught.

It's good to see the special teams finally make some plays. I'd really like to see some consistency before I can say they are as good as they were last season.

Special teams has always been a strong point for this team so I hope it can be as good as it has in the past.

Good Job Jacoby (or like Dan Marino likes to say.....Jacob) you made your first big game changing play in almost 2 years.......now do it more without acting like you reinvented the game on the sidelines afterwards.

Exactly what we needed at exactly the right time, great job Jacoby I hope this gives him some more confidence going into the rest of the season.

Let the kid enjoy the game. That return got the WHOLE TEAM amped up.
Got my HOUSE amped up, got those EMPTY SEATS amped up.

This guy look like Stravin' Marvin sitting next to AJ on the bench. Never really realize how much of a giant AJ is.

I think JJ can be really good, once he bulks up, he sure got the frame to put on weight. He gots the talent thats for sure, he just need the size to complete it. Imagine having a clone of AJ on the opposite side of him, now that would be an awesome duo to have.

We heard the same crap after he lit it up in preseason a couple of years ago......"let the kid enjoy the game", but then his head got too big for his game and he thought he was better then he really was. So he never progressed as a player and just made mistakes and got outworked by other receivers like David Anderson.

I have no problem with players celebrating.....I just get tired of watching Jacoby make a play a year, act like he won the superbowl, then crawl back into his hole for another year.

Ditto there Carr Bombed. JJ needs to make me remember that he's on this football team. He did today. Let's see him do it again next week and the week after that as well.

Great return Jacoby! If only CBS had let me see all of it.

It's on the highlights on this websites homepage, along with every single thing else the Texans did right. :photos:

And, yeah, it's a doozie. JJ has has fast....and where'd he go?

At least he didnt fumble.

Does that count as props ?

In all seriousness , the kid has the talent to play in this league , he just cant expect his physical ability to do it all , he's gotta work to get better , Sunday was a step in that direction.

If you recall, he had a severe AC separation in his shoulder. That was the
primary loss for his "swagger" the coaches want him to play with. Good thing
Kubiak didn't go with the "Cut Jacoby" threads I saw you guys posting on these
boards!

Speaking of Anderson, does anybody know the extent of his injury? It looked like he was holding his shin on the field.

I don't know, almost looked like a soccer flop to me. Maybe trying to give his team a little more time to prepare for that last drive? He was smiling when he got up so I don't think it was too bad.

Ah, I didn't notice the smile. If that's the case, then woohoo! That means there was no time losing injuries, correct?

Agreed. It was a great return when the team needed a spark. On a side note, Jones is my Adopt-a-Texan this year. I messed up by not having him in my signature :embarrass . Gotta rectify that.

I think Jacoby liked that feeling so maybe we can expect more of the same.

Did anyone watch how he was holding the ball?

You could tell that he was thinking about it. He'd be holding the ball high and tight and then in the open field, it would start to get get wild and loose, and then he'd remember ball security and bring it back up again. It was pretty funny.

Yup, at least he is trying to be better with it, just not natural to him yet. Started to showboat on the TD run at about the 15 or 20 yard line, then remembered and stopped.

I think Jacoby did a wonderful job on Sunday. He definitely went to work and pulled more than his load. It makes me proud as hell that I have him on my fantasy football team too! :heh:

He was pointing to his Mom in the stands.

I think your probably right, but it was still showboating and then he remembered and paid attention to business until he crossed into the endzone. That's when you should start celebrating. Pointing towards family etc. 15-20 yards away is not paying attention to the business at hand. Of course, we have never seen anything bad happen before a player goes into the endzone that has cost us a TD or anything.

He's a young player that has some potential playmaking ability. He just needs to stay focussed on his fundamentals - i.e. proper hold on the ball, celebrate after the play - and stay healthy.

It was great to see him back on Sunday, though. We need those kinds of gains to energize this team. Get all three phases going and feeding off each other's success on a consistent basis, and we'll winning more games than losing.

Major props to JJ for that play! :redtowel: :texflag:

He caught one pass against Jacksonville for 5 yards, that's it.

^ This picture cracks me up! :doot:

As for everyone baggin' on Jacoby for Showboating.. you have to realize that the kid probably was ecstatic as hell knowing he was bringing a punt return in for a TD. Was he reckless with the ball? Yes, but the fact still remains that he's young, his mother was in the stands, he wanted to do his Momma proud, and he got excited and careless. With youth comes carelessness. He'll get seasoned eventually and mature up some. But, give the kid props in scoring a touchdown when we needed it desperately.

Let's get this straight.

The problem isn't that he was showboating. The problem is that, even before he was showboating, he was carrying the ball loose. He didn't start carrying the ball loose because he was pointing to his mom and planning his TD celebration. He was already loose at that point and AFTER he pointed at his mom, he realized he was loose and brought the ball back up tight.

I'm just saying he's got to continue to work on keeping the ball tight at all times.

Exactly, we don't need Jacoby using his vision, speed and quickness and then pulling a "Dishman". Those of you who were Oiler fans know what I am talking about! :texflag:

The two that deserve the pats on the backs are Reeves and Dreessen. Reeves crushed a gunner and Joel Dreessen set a block for two seconds. That's all J.J. needs. One gunner blocked and a good block at the poa. Steve Slaton wants to impress the hell out of me, he takes some snaps with the punt return team and helps set J.J. free. He needs the blocking work any way.

He's just a kid. OK. Guy wants to celebrate his first success in the NFL I've got no problem with that. Coach got on to him last time. The guys been hurt and in the dog house for twelve months. Up to you, but you might want to consider cutting the kid some slack. Big difference playing in front of eighty thousand in Austin and Playing in front a few thousand at Lane college. The guy has been desperate to get out of the dog house and he made a play. That's it.

Did you even bother to read my post?

I have no problem with him celebrating.

I have a problem with him holding the ball out away from his body where it can be knocked out. He started with it in tight the way he was supposed to, then he let it get away from him, then he pointed at his mother, then he brought the ball back in tight. Another poster said that he let it get away from him because he was showboating but that wasn't what happened.

I'm just saying with his history of fumbling, he needs to be more careful.
