Manufactured excitement

Just got back from the game. That's what I have to call it.

There were 2 interceptions, 4 non-interceptions that no one caught but should have been (by the Phins), and that last long catch be AJ should have been an interception (but only because of his shear strength took the ball from the defender).

Coach decisions to go for 2 extra points..........should have been called after the 1st touchdown.............and when finally called at the end of the game as an after thought.

Time management?...........I'd say take away Kubiak's analog watch and let him have a dummy digital one.............oh, excuse me, he already has one on the scoreboard.

DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME, VINNY POINTED OUT THAT IT APPEARED THAT DUANE BROWN WAS TELEGRAPHING OUT PLAYS. I SPENT THE REST OF THE GAME TABBING HIS OBSERVATION........AND IT'S A DEFINITE. APPROXIMATELY 90% OF THE TIME, IF BROWN TOOK A FULL CROUCH POSITION, IT WAS RUN...............IF BROWN TOOK A SEMI-CROUCH/SEMI-UPRIGHT POSITION, IT WAS A PASS. SOMEONE NEEDS TO RELATE THIS TO THE COACHES.

BTW, Gibbs on the sideline was so animated (pissed) most of the game, that he reminded me of a Joe Pesce understudy.

Yes, we won the game. But the excitement was definitely manufactured.

Only Texans fans will whine and complain after an exciting win. Sheesh. We won our first game. Lets lay off the criticism for a minute. The only thing I see wrong with this win is all the complaining its already brining?

Were the negatives? Absolutely. We are a sloppy team. But we hung in there, we have the makings of a fabulous offense, and we won an exciting game.

Well no wonder why Brown got owned the whole day. Porter was reading him like a book. He just a rookie though, we can only hope he get better. If not.... well RG is a need, we can put him there.

you dont go for 2 with more than about 5 min left in a game. that has come back to haunt teams more times than any of us can count. when you complain about a coaching decesion it should really be something that has a consensus with most fans. not something that 10 people see one way and 10see a different way, that just means he didnt do what you wanted. which is a lot different than doing the wrong thing.

as far as time mangement, were you talking about the end of game when they let a few extra sec's run off the clock. or earlier when they were having trouble getting the play in. im pretty sure there was something wrong with matt's helment reciever, he kept pointing to it.

Seriously agree with markbeth. What if we didn't get the 2 the first time? Then at the end of the game, the phins coul dhave gone for 2, gotten it, and we would have needed an extra point just to TIE the game at the end.

Complaining about coaching decisions like that is just silly You take points when you can get them. We have a horrible Red Zone offense. Theres not reason to risk not getting the points.

And to complain about something as trivial as that immediately after a loss is almost comical

Well, considering how bad Pittman has been this season, Kubiak wanted to go with the safe route and just run the ball up the middle. Remember that botch FG against Tenn? It resulted with Turk having to make a pass.... into the defender's hands.

I agree that we should've went for 2 after the first TD. If we get it we tied, if we don't then we still need a FG to get ahead. Don't know why Kubiak didn't go for it then.

If that's the attitude you take after a stunning, uncharacteristic win for a team that badly needed one, I'm sure the excitement was manufactured for you.

For the rest of us? Not so much.

Honestly, a perfect game by the Texans where we win by 30 is not that exciting. Its boring. This game was the definition of exciting. I didn't know who would win until the last second ticked off the clock

And that the win came from a clutch TD drive with two fourth down conversions.

That gut check could prove to be a valuable learning experience for a team that hasn't tasted much success in crunch time.

At least this time it worked in our favor! Usually(99% of the time) we're on the Dolphins side of such losses.

but the Dolphins are almost always on the side of such losses, so it's just a flip of the coin with who's going to have the more devastating loss

I am elated that we won a game that we tried desparately to give away. We were extremely fortunate that just over 1 minute from the end of the game, the Phins decided to go for the TD...........instead of running the clock down to a couple of seconds........and all but ensure their win with a measly FG.

we had 2 timeouts. they couldnt of took hardly anymore time off the clock. if they would of kicked a fieldgoal we would of been in about the same situation. 1:30 left with no timeouts but only have to get into field goal range to win instead of 1:45 left 2 time outs but we need 6. i see no diff in those 2 situations.

In fact, one could argue the Phins did the smart thing by going up 6 instead of 3. You would HOPE your D could keep a team out of the endzone as opposed to being in a spot where if they give up 2-3 first downs they lose.

C-nnn-D... I must admit this is one of the few times you're logic completely escapes me.

Yes, it was sloppily played game by us. We should have had our way with them with as many 3-&-outs as we forced. ...we handled them nearly all day only to give up BIG plays (gee, just like last week)
And, once again, one of our guys had a brain-fart when presented with the opportunity to put the game away by merely sliding to be sure we maintained possession....

...but "manufactured"?? What you mean by that escapes me.

I understand this thread completely.

This is why you guys get so suprised. We win and we're great, we lose and we suck. There is no middle ground.

Recognize when we play a bad game wither we win or lose and you won't be so pissed and suprised after our losses.

People act like every secondary in the league is equal. The Dolphins have one of the worst secondaries in the league, if not the worst.

I don't think anyone is saying we're great because we beat the Dolphins. We're saying there's a time and place for everything, and pissing in the campfire when everyone's breaking out the graham crackers and marshmallows isn't gonna fly.

What's there to break out the marshmellows for?

I'm happy we won, but we did not play well today. We should have won this game by multiple possessions.

I'm not one to be super happy over a win for more than 30 minutes if our team played bad and probably should have lost the game.

I like to look at the whole picture and evaluate the team, win or lose.

I guess winning is so rare here that when we win everybody gets Koolaid poisoning.

If someone (more important than me) doesn't piss in the campfire now, as you put it, there likely won't be any need to be breaking out the graham crackers and marshmallows too often in the future.

Actually I think losing is so common that the boo-birds have taken a permanent nest. The whole point of watching football is for the fun of it, and especially the fun of winning. If you start complaining that there weren't enough screen plays run for your particular liking even after we win an exciting game, nothing will make you happy.

Schaub started poorly, and there were certainly mistakes to go around. But often times a team only needs a shot of confidence to start the train rolling.

You guys should become Cubs fans. Plenty of whining for everyone there

An improbable comeback victory? This team needed one of those badly. Learning to win is a critical step in the maturation process.
But Kris Brown only put the ball at a 48 degree angle on the tee before the kickoff! How can you celebrate at a time like this???

It's because alot of us have understand what happened in this football game, and don't forget all the things that happened after we win.

I guess we should all be ignoring the bad things that happen when we win. Smart way to go about things!

Great argument by the way. You really nailed it on that one.

It's the same people who praise and drink the Koolaid now who are dumbfounded when we lose, as if they didn't see it coming.

What?

We won as many games as we lost last year, and are fielding a very similar football team. Doesn't seem to have "matured" the team in any way.

Again, I am happy that we won, but I would like to analyze the play of our team. Not drink Koolaid and type "rah rah" on texanstalk.

I can't imagine that a thread like this can deter any fan from enjoying the win, it won't deter me from doing so. Contrary opinions to mine are welcome........and those also will not deter my appreciation of a win. But I certainly hope that the coaches and players can also do the same without killing the devil's advocate......because it is more important for them to do so than us.

I agree. We should have one the Colts game, we played fantastic, the whole team outside of Sage at the end. Jags game was tough and could have gone either way. Schaub had a good game.

But excuse me for noticing some inconsistencies with our QB and team.

Didn't think every convo had to be a one way street after a win like this.

Some got so tired of "we could be 2 and 2" or "we could be 3 and 1" that they wonder why the "we could be 0 and 5" posts aren't embraced.

Thankfully the Texans played a team as weak as they are today, so all is good.

Yea, you get the "I hate these what if's posts". Then you get the "we could be 2 and 2" posts.

I hear that BS every year. We shouldn't be 2 and 2. We have as many wins as we deserve and that is one. Sage is part of this team too, and the fact the he screwed up gave us a loss.

Could be the two possessions at start of game where Schaub interceptions stalled potential scoring drives: Both those picks were bone-head decisions by Schaub.

And...Schaub was doinking Phins defenders all day long with passes getting batted high into the air, as well as off Phins defenders in coverage, especially a couple in the end zone (particularly the one just before Matt's game-winning QB keeper). I still don't like how long Schaub's passes float and hang in the air. Lots of time for a defender to make a play on it.

The last drive was a Keystone Cops routine with a near-fumble by Schaub, a near-interception just barely bouncing off the ground, and AJ having to struggle on 4th and 10 to help Matt out...again. Ball thrown into double-coverage in endzone was a heart stopper. But lots of guts to run the keeper for the win. So for all the troubles, he DID redeem himself big time.

But for me, the win was more about Jacoby Jones, and a lot of pure luck on our last drive, and maybe Dolphins not using enough time on clock helped us win today. I'll throw in a pretty solid defensive showing by (shaking head in disbelief) a Richard Smith defense, and say that we should have own this game a lot more easily.

I will definitely take the WIN, though. I won't gripe and rant and rave, but I don't think CND was either. I think he was just saying that this looked a lot like the Jacksonville game, and the Colts game, but this one we came out on top. 1-2 on games that are gritty and somewhat sloppy.

Like CND, I just want to see us own a game from start-to-finish as if we are the team that we thought we had after last year's 8-8 finish. We had rust off our preseason games, and it looks like today was our first game of the regular season. Hurricane Ike? A lot to do with it, I think.

And that's really where I am coming from as well.

I just want to see us not play so sloppy. Gotta love a win, but sloppy football can get on my nerves. We are a better football team than we have shown in ANY game all year.

I'd just like to see us show up as the team that we are, without making multiple bonehead/gamechanging mistakes.
