My current Texas Bowl predictions........

(Big XII vs C-USA)

**UPDATED 12/3***

Rice vs who?

Rice has accepted the bid for the Texas Bowl. With No Big XII opponent, we're going to pull from another conference. There are talks with Notre Dame, but other opponents may include Rutgers & NC State.....

For those of you interested, current predictions show Kansas State vs UH Coogars.

If the Coogs go again this year, I'll definitely be there. Maybe some good football will actually be played by a Houston team at Reliant this year after all......

That was a blast last year. If it's the Coogs again, I'm in.

They'll probably take one of the big twelve also rans. I wonder how many tickets they could sell for an SMU- U of H shoot out. Got the Katy connection. High octane offenses. Don't know if SMU will travel. That's why the bowls always smile when Texas goes bowling. Horns will travel. And they spend money when they get there.

I'm an Ag and the Aggies will be lucky to get to 6 wins...this is a lost season for us.

Yeah but from the looks of things, the Ags found a QB for the future.

Jerrod Johnson looks like he could be special in two years when he is a senior.

A&M won't be in a bowl. They are 2-5 and still have to play OU and UT. Not a chance, although i hope they could make it.

got my seats and 2 Platinum passes. yay!

Either give us Nebraska or U of H for the Mrs. and I to watch, or Rice or A&M so I can scalp my tickets.

With the weekend off, the Coogs will get a nice break before there 3 games at home. They still have to find a way to beat Tulsa though.

U of H v. K State? Lol. Welcome back to the Texas bowl, boys.

Maybe. Even with the loss to Texas A&M last week, Colorado ranks above Kansas State. Both those teams should be bowl eligible looking at their remaining opponents. By the rankings, the Big 12 opponent right now is Texas A&M. Unless they manage a miracle and win the next 2 of 3, we won't see them and Colorado would move up to fill the Big 12 spot.

**UPDATED 10/29***

For Big 12 we're looking at Nebraska, Colorado or Kansas State. My pick is Colorado.
For C-USA It's Rice & UH. I'm going with Rice since the Coogs have a 3 game homestand coming up.

Are these your predictions or are is this from a bowl predictions webarticle? If anyone has a link to where espn or si.com or ANYONE! is predicting the bowl teams/appearances I'd be greatful. I've been trying to search for an updated one for a while with no success.

They are mine. You can google "bowl projections" and find also sorts of wacky projections. The Texas Bowl projections don't get updated too much out there, which is why I posted my own.

PLEASE let it be A&M!!! I'll use 2 tickets to watch the game, and scalp the rest!!! (Maybe let Bill have 1 if U of H goes)...

Pray that they win 2 of the next 3 and it could be.

Beating OU would be a start...

It's possible, but not probable. I'm with you yankee - I have some extra tickets that I would love to sell to some Aggie fans, but their next three are against Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas. I don't see them beating Oklahoma. Baylor & Texas - they might be able to win those two since they play Texas tough. They need to try to beat the Sooners this week at Kyle Field though - it will be a great boost for the team.

I'm a bit pessimistic after today's game, but I don't think the Ags have it in them Yankee.

It's a must win for Kansas State this weekend, otherwise we're going to be digging around the WAC for opponents. Can't root for them though being a Husker fan & all.....

I've been so busy at work I haven't had time to update this thread. looks like the Texas Bowl is going to be without a Big XII opponent this year.

Hrrrm, psychic David says?

Rice vs San Jose State

With No Big XII opponent, we're going to pull from another conference. I think Rice has the C-USA spot locked up. The Bowls are going to keep in mind traveling this year due to the economy, and the Coogs look like they're headed to the Liberty Bowl. We might not end up with San Jose State - it may be Lousiana Tech since they're closer even though they're ranked higher.

You know that they have added two new Bowl Games this season, right?

There will be two new NCAA postseason football games next season -- one in St. Petersburg, Fla., the other in Washington, D.C.

The St. Petersburg Bowl will be played between Dec. 20-23 at Tropicana Field, the home of the Tampa Bay Rays. It will match teams from the Big East and Conference USA.

"The St. Petersburg Bowl is another great bowl opportunity for the Big East," league commissioner Michael Tranghese said. "The game is played in a Big East market and already has generated great interest in the local community."

Tropicana Field has been home to big league baseball since 1998 and has hosted several major sporting events, including the NCAA Final Four in 1999.

The domed stadium also has served as a home for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League, but is a newcomer to college football.

The NCAA also approved a "Congressional Bowl" in Washington, D.C. It will feature Navy against an ACC opponent.

A proposed game for Salt Lake City was turned down.

Last year there were 32 bowl games. There were 71 teams which had 6-6 records to qualify for a bowl game.

The reason I bring it up is that it could really be a detriment to who the Texas Bowl will be able to bring in. I'd hate to see the Texas Bowl's attendance go from 52,000 in 2006 up to 62,000+ last year to nothing this year.

Yep I knew. But if there's a drop in attendance, I doubt it will be huge. C-USA puts plenty of local ties into the Bowl. The Bowl does have ties to the MWC, so we could see a TCU vs Rice matchup, though that's doubtful. Regardless, whoever fills the Big XII spot will either be local or a school with fans with huge away game support. Non-BCS Bowls select by order of their pick, not by ranking. Since the Texas Bowl picks sixth from C-USA, Rice will be selected unless they attend the Liberty Bowl. I don't see another bowl selecting Rice, and if the Cougars are not in play for their selection, that's the best choice due to local city ties. Filling the Big XII spot is pretty much a crapshoot - It could be anyone. You never can tell what's on the minds of the selection committees......

Looks like it will be Rice in the Texas Bowl.
Just heard myself, but I was expecting that one. Now we just have to wait until this weekend's games for the other opponent. Possible options could include Rutgers, NC State, & Notre Dame.

......

May skip the Texas Bowl this year - I don't have a dog in that hunt. Though Rice may play exciting football, I persoanlly can't get up for non-traditional footbal schools I have no tie to.

Non-traditional?? John Heisman is about as traditional as you can get.

Wouldn't you like to go see Rice beat up on Notre Dame?

Good I can't wait to see Notre Dame get stomped in ANOTHER bowl game! Getting beat by Rice would put Charlie back in his place.
