Could Cowher end up coach of the Cowboys in 2009?

pretty much a random thought, but it looks like the Cowboys are a paper tiger and don't look like they are getting to the Super Bowl. if you take that into consideration, could you see Jerry Jones going out and getting Cowher for the inaugural season in his NFL Shangri-La of a new stadium?

Phillips is a good coach but that doesn't matter to Jerry. it's win or hit the road and I don't think he would be so naive to think Garrett would be any better than Phillips as a Head Coach. Cowher however would be a wise hire and could yield quick results. A long shot? Because of Jerry's history of meddling, yes. But you never know. Stranger things have happened. Could you imagine Jerrah somehow luring Jimmah back to coach the Cowboys in 2009? That would be like Billy Martin and George Steinbrenner with the Yankees in the 70s. It will never happen but wow wouldnt it just be a trip.

This season is looking like its going to be a slaughterhouse for NFL head coaches, so Cowher will have his picks? Is any other team more attractive than the Cowboys could potentially be?

Being a Cowboy fan, and I've been talking with WWJD about this, I'm highly disappointed right now. 4-1 might seem acceptable but it is the mentality. Sure Wade is a nice guy but he acts like the lovable uncle on the sidelines and yesterday someone needed to light a fire under their asses. For most longtime Cowboy fans I know there is this feeling while watching games...yesterdays was one...where you know they are going through the motions. Romo makes a few dumb mistakes and goes "awww shucks" and heads to the bench to put his hat on backwards. The defense lets a once stagnant offense find holes with their receivers. Right now the Giants and Skins are bringing it. Wade seems to do nothing to inspire. They can win 12 games but unless the same mistakes get corrected they will be out again.

Coaching wise, Garrett will be the man. He learned under Jimmy and I don't think he will be so quiet about mistakes. If they did get Cowher...I'd be pumped...but won't happen.

Yea I agree with HF...Cowher would be a fine hire and Jerry would certainly bring the cash to get him if he wanted him but I think he'd pass...

Can't see Jimmy coming back either. His new lifestyle suits him fine so why bother? Although he and Jerry are friendly again....

The Cowboys are paper tigers..I agree with that assessment....they lack intensity and focus and that's been a problem for some years now. The Bengals could very easily have snatched that game yesterday and you could tell they were playing with a fire.....when Tony made his few mistakes yest he just went over to the bench and sulked. I don't like that attitude and it's not a good one to have as the leader of the team.

On a "who would have thunk it" note PacMan has been a bright spot for the Cowboys..he plays with heart and passion and he's working hard every play.

And Felix Jones continues to impress...great draft pick there.

I wanted the Boys to draft Chris Johson so bad.

I thought they were only going after Felix because of the Ark connection, but man that kid can play.

I still think Chris Johnson is great, but Felix has definitely not disappointed thus far.

Jerry is really at his core a "flavor of the month" kind of guy.

If he really wanted Cowher then he'd go after him. I am of the opinion though that Coach Cowher wouldn't be the right fit FOR HIM there....personally though I'd love to see it...tough, hard nosed, in your face kind of coach.

It's EXACTLY what the Cowboys need.

Jason is very smart and will probably have any number of job offers in the NFL.

Wade Phillips reminds me of Jack Pardee.

He has no passion when things aren't going well.Nice guy but no killer instinct.
Pretty fair comparison.

On the note of Cowher, I doubt that would ever fly. Jerrah likes his glitz and glamour while Cowher is a blue-collar, hard-nosed, blood and guts guy..

IMO, I think whoever is/or will be the Cowboys coach, will have to be a "yes man". We all know who calls the shots in that organization and it's not the head coach.

That's another reason why I don't think a guy like Cowher would be a good fit there. Hell, I'm surprised Parcells lasted as long as he did.

Well Parcells was the first besides Jimmy where he was allowed to do what he wanted. We all thought he learned and decided to give way to others to win. It worked talent wise but Bill had kind of lost it too. Wade was supposed to just guide but they get bored now. I think Garrett is a good in between guy with respect.

Ya know if I were these guys like Cowher and Johnson I think I'd take the Michael Strahan approach when asked to come back to the NFL..."thanks but no thanks"...HA!

A cushy, high paying job dissecting NFL teams and their games would suit me just fine if I were them.

Cowher prolly not so much far as the thanks but no thanks approach.I think it'll be a few years before we see him doing anything other then studio work. Living in Carolina right now he might wait out John Fox's tenure.

Jimmy Johnson on the other hand would probably LOVE to have Jerruh ask him again. Don't see that happening. OTOH A place like say .... houston might be the kind of task Jimmy might go after if enough money was thrown his way and given the tools and money it might saite his ego.

I actually feel just the opposite of you...I think Cowher will coach again and probably next year and I think Jimmy is done coaching.

Hey DB you know how spoiled ROTTEN we are...Ha!

My only concern is I expected this was gonna be the year and it appears they are on cruise control.

And if you aren't watching the road cruise control will get ya killed!

How true. I sat in Reliant Stadium until the field cleared trying to process how could we (yes we, because I am also a strong Texans fan) lose that game. Then when I arrived at a tailgate and saw that the Cowboys were up 17-3, I thought well great since I tend not to take any games for granted. It began to appear that I was headed for a double header of disappointment for my teams and was only too glad when we were able pull that one off after that momentum swing.

I think it is a matter of time before Jason Garrett becomes head coach, and it was probably an understanding with Wade when he accepted that Garrett was heir apparant to the HC position.

heh heh, I'll take a winning team on cruise control any day over a team that is crashing and burning with both hands on the steering wheel and the pedal to the metal. :shades:

The Cowboys have winning tradition, so even though they might struggle at times, they eventually start winning by drawing on past glory. There are expectations and standards to live up to with a franchise like Dallas.

Our poor Texans on the other hand...we go on cruise control during a game and it's a guaranteed loss. Our wins are akin to getting lucky lottery numbers. It's always "OMG! We won!" instead of winning games as part of an expected winning season.

So you Cowboys appreciate what ya' got. Wade didn't fumble that FG hold or throw that pick in the endzone. ;)

Hehe...nope Tony has gotten to be almost money in the bank to throw an INT in the red zone and he carries the ball sometimes like he's never had one in his hands...careless, careless mistakes.

I am still in shock that the Texans lost that game.....did anybody check to see if Reggie Wayne had some stickum on his hand?

You CAN be both a Texans fan AND Cowboys fan like some of us on here (ok it's just maybe 2 or 3 of us on here) but I'm afraid your bullpen friends would marinate you and use you for tailgating food....ha!

The Texans will come around one day...some day....till then keep fighting the fight!

I like Jason's offensive mindset and all but I am concerned that he would be a first time head coach...so many of those guys just don't pan out.

And his game plan for the Redskins game absolutely was horrid...I'd rather see a proven guy like Cowher but that's just wishful thinking on my part.

I watched the last quarter of the Texans game and I'm still not sure how they lost that game. It was really a surreal feeling watching how that game turned.

He looks confused a lot just like Pardee did (and Kubiak does). Remember that Pardee move where he would take off his hat and pull back his hair and then put his hat back on and then straighten his belt (sometimes adding a quick impromptu belly rub at the end) and he would be looking out to the field like the refs were speaking a foreign language. Jack is a Texas football legend but he was pretty much just a figurehead during his time as Oilers Head Coach.

ot- man this is a pretty damn good performance by Bush tonight v. the Vikings. He had those costly fumbles early but I think the Saints are pretty happy with the 2 incredible punt returns for TDs. Say what you want about Bush but he does make plays....and I really respected that he didn't showboat on his TD and just ran and high fived the fans in the endzone and just went to the sideline (after being mobbed by his teammates) he showed some class both in his athleticism and his behavior as well as being resilient after the 2 early fumbles.

There was a look he had during that 12-4 season where his headset was kind of crooked on his head and he just looked dazed and confused. Gilbride was running the offense and Buddy Ryan was DC, so Jack was just hanging out, going with the flow.

I call it the "Jack Pardee look". Rudy T had the look during his last year with the Rockets, and Larry Dierker had it with the Astros with a sunflower seed stuck to his lip. There are 'classic' pictures of Dom Capers displaying the look in great form. I haven't seen it in Kubiak, maybe you have, but I haven't...not yet, at least...

I wish we were a 4-1 "paper tiger".

The Cowboys are not perfect, but they are a good football team.

Wade is a very good coach.

Jerry would be an ***** to change coaches anytime soon.

Wait a minute, Jerry is an *****..............

The problem some of us are having is just seeing signs of things that gave them problems in the past. Windows of opportunity open and shut quickly these days. They are definitely a good football team but they are also showing signs of no killer instinct and things that haunted them last year. I'm loving 4-1 but hate that December might roll like usual. I'd take Jerry over 99.9% of the owners out there.

paper tiger isn't a complete knock. its just pointing out that as good as they look (and they do look good at times) they are still lacking in a lot of areas that become critical in the playoffs.

don't get me wrong, the pokes are making the playoffs and they may even win a playoff game this time, but I just can't envision them going to the Super Bowl, much less winning one. romo just scares me as he is a meltdown just waiting to happen...dude is a great individual and he does a lot for his fellow man and is very classy and most importantly he is a helluva talented QB but he has yet to show he can do it when it counts. It's not fair, but its how it is. Just ask Dan Marino or Jim Kelly.

If you want to look for an example closer to Irving, how about Danny White (minus the playoff wins). That poor guy was always the bridesmaid in the NFC and it didn't matter how many NFC Championship Games he could get to, he just needed to win one more game in the playoffs to get a sniff of the Super Bowl...and he came up short.

One thing the Cowboys have going for them is they should be hungry...they just didn't look too hungry last Sunday.

And I'm not so sure Wade is the type coach that can inspire "hunger" although these are grown men and they should know what is at stake each and every time they step on the field.

I like Wade though and I'm certainly not going to say he needs to be replaced YET...I would just like the Cowboys to play to their potential. Stepping on the field and acting like you've got a victory in the bag doesn't cut it with me.
