2005 schedual and predictions

I was just looking at the upcomming schedual for the Texans and i have to say... it looks pretty promissing. From our division, I figure we'll take atleast 3 of the 6 games. The Texans handed it to The Titans and the Jags last season. If they can do the same this season that's 4 wins. We got Pitsburg at home, which I dont see us winning, but next is cleavland and i think we can take them, we'll call that win #4. Kansas City is next. That one's a toss up. Since we beat them last year i'll call it another win, making it 5 for the season. Arizona should be a win for us too, making it #6. St. Louis will be tough, I'll call that one a loss since they were a playoff team last season. Baltimore wont be any easier, I'll call that one a loss aswell. We got Cinncinatti next and I believe the Texans matchup well against them. I'll call that win #7. Next is Seatle, i'll call this one a loss. Then we have San Fransisco, I pray to god we can chalk this one up for a win, #8. Then finally we have Buffalo, which will be tough, but I say the Texans take it, giving them 9 wins.
If the Texans can win 4 in the division again this comming year it could be a 10 win season. We all know how much things change from season to season. ie: the chargers. But i'm thinking playoffs this year just based on last years performances from each team.
No one really knows. What i do know is all this waiting around for football news is killing me. Im looking foward to the draft, looking foward for madden football to be released for the ps2 and dying for this season to begin.

wait... the schedule is out? Was it posted? I know it's....
Home - Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Arizona, St. Louis, Kansas City

Away - Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Baltimore, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Seattle, Buffalo

It sounded like you knew the order in your post.

no.. i dont know the order.. just the games being played.

Should have a real shot at the division this yr, provided Carr has someone to throw the ball at..if not..i see a long season.

the only ones i see us losing for sure is at indy and baltimore(though it would be worth it if we broke a huge play on them)

We can win any game on the schedule next year...It's not like in years past when we see Indy coming in and write it off as a loss before the game...We definitely won't win every game, but we have a "puncher's chance"...

In 2004, we weren't supposed to have a chance in KC; we won.
We weren't supposed to lose to the pitiful Browns at home on the last Sunday of the season; we lost.
We weren't supposed to sweep the Titans or the Jags; we did both.

On any given Sunday, as they say, so please take your talk of 'losing this one for sure' and store it in your south end zone :loser

How can we see wins and losses yet?

We havent drafted our rookies, or even seen any preseason to judge talent.

well considering what we saw last year, with a little more consistency, and some more defensive up grades LB Greenwood and CB sanders, then the draft i think we will be a much better team and can see a 9-11 win season ! But i'm aq homer so what do i know ?

Its waaay too early... but right now I have us at 9 wins. Still an improvement.

The key for me is for the Texans to come out of the gate hot this year and get up in the win column early. We cant afford to battle uphill again this year after a weak start and expect to win a playoff spot.

We play dallas in the preseason... even though it doesnt count.... it does to everyone in Texas. It'll be fun beating the snot out of them again this year.

Predicting the Texans' season is like trying to predict what's going to happen next on afternoon soap operas.

But once November and December roll around we will have a better idea of who's in and who's out. Just hope the Texans are on the in list.

id say 9 wins is very attainable this year. We have become more consistent year in and year out.. and the lose to the Browns last year was a huge shot in the a**.. reminding us to take very team seriously.

I think we will show more consistency this year.. and I also think we will split wins with the colts (its one of our goals and we have done a pretty good job of reaching our goals every season)

Home -
Indianapolis, Win!!
Jacksonville, Win!!
Tennessee, Win!!
Cleveland, Win!!
Pittsburgh, Loss
Arizona, Win!!
St. Louis, Win!!
Kansas City, Loss

Away -
Indianapolis, Loss
Jacksonville, Loss :(
Tennessee, Win!!
Baltimore, Loss
Cincinnati, Win!!
San Francisco, Win!!
Seattle, Win!!
Buffalo, Loss

thats 10 - 6 WOO!!

Every year we have also won at least one game we werent supposed to.. and lost one game we were supposed to win. SO!.. look for us to beat Pittsburgh and lose to San Francisco :)

those are my predictions. In the end.. I think we will tie for second with Jacksonville.... whether or not we get the wildcard though.. I dunno.. I think there will probably be another 10-6 team.. maybe two.. in the AFC. So who gets the tie breaker? *shrug*. I think we need to really try and win that Baltimore game cause its likely (at this point) that they will be second place in their division behind the Steelers.. and could very well be a 10-6 team.. so beating them would be a tie breaker for us. Yes i know.. im predicting way to much with way too little info.. its the offseason :)..gimme a break.

I'm just curious...I know the Texans SHOULD beat Cincinatti and Cleveland, but WILL they? If I remember correctly, the Texans haven't beaten either one of them yet, even though they should have. I won't even try to guess who we will or won't beat or lose to this season, because I really don't know which team will show up. Will it be the team that showed up for the Cleveland game, or will it be the team that showed up for the Jaguar shutout? Who knows?

Right now I think we will finish last. I think the Titans and Jags are going to surprise you. They will not be as bad as last year and right now I don't see any reason to be optomistic about us next year. We have given up more than we have gained so far. The one incouraging note is the possible return of BJ. If we don't come out of the draft with someone who will have instant impact, you can say goodbye to next season. I still say we had the chemistry we needed at the end of the 2nd year, but that was all lost by the beginning of the 3rd year and we were never a TEAM last year. That's why we were so up and down last year. Again, I hope I'm wrong, but I think people are way to optomistic given the perpensities of this coaching staff and players.

 @ us finishing last next year...How have the Titans improved enough over last year to possibly overtake us? They lost Rolle, Dyson, Mason, Miller, Nedney, Carter, Holocombe, all of them being starters...What have they gained over last year other than a quasi-healthy Steve McNair with nobody to throw to? The sky is falling, chicken little...Next season isn't over before it has even started...

They picked up a good college OC who has never worked in the NFL before...He may end up working out well for them and he may not, but he should take some time getting used to the NFL game...

Oh, yes, and if McNair is healthy he is more than a threat to beat anyone in this league. We will just have to wait and see. Perhaps I'm too negative, but I think many are way too positive about next season. I think we will continue to struggle with our O-line. Fix the O-line and we are a winning ball club. Don't fix it and we won't be a winner. I think its as simple as that. Capers will fix his defense because that's his forte. Offense is not, and that bothers me very much. I'm not looking for us to have an Indy offense, but I think Capers is not even giving us an average offense.

The scary thing is that even though Cleveland was a terrible team last year that we couldn't beat, they will be totally different/better team this year.

I actually think we have most of the pieces in place on offense, the only thing missing is pass protection, and I fully expect us to tend to fixing it through the draft...I may start to worry a little if we don't take any O-Linemen on the first day of the draft, though...You have to realize that there are a lot of people here who are constantly staring through steel blue glasses and can't step back and view things in an objectionable manner...If you ask most of the users here, they will say we are a playoff team, but IMO, we're not...We're still at least a year away...Capers is overhauling the LB corps and we'll have a few guys who will have to get used to their new roles, and our D may look really ugly at the beginning of the year, but by the end of the year, it will be a force (hopefully)...Still, the draft hasn't even passed, so it's still kinda early to speculate how things will shake out next season...

Well that pretty much sums up how to be chicken little--be as pessimistic as possible about the Texans and as optimistic as possible about everyone else--facts be damned--as D-Rek said, the Titans have lost a ton of players.

I still say we had the chemistry we needed at the end of the 2nd year, but that was all lost by the beginning of the 3rd year and we were never a TEAM last year. All reality aside, that is a perfectly fine opinion. 2003 the Texans ended the season 0-4. Boy that chemistry sure paid off. 2004 the Texans ended 2-2. As for up and down I agree, winning back to back games on three occassions and two more total games in 2004 made them more up and down because there was more up vs. 2003 which was unbalanced down.

Not to sound like a part of the masses- I would be sorely disappointed if we didn't get into the playoffs. I would have been happy with ONE more win last year :-/

hmm i dunno if your just having a bad day or did your dog die :hmmm:. very very negative opinion, i have an idea why dont you call capers and tell him to forefit this season, we dont want our texans to get humiliated or anything. And chemistry in 03,,,WHY because we LOST so many close games. And not enough in 04 because we won 2 more and finally had winning streaks,,,very strange opinion,,,but hey thats all it is "your opinion". InfantryCak make sure we can find this thread once the season is over PLEASE, cause it may come in as "good throw it in your face stuff :)"

maybe some people set themselves low standards so when they surpass them they feel absolutely amazing about everything.

that being said...i still dont understand ANY reason to be pessimistic about this upcoming season. and i dont really understand the part about the titans and jags being better than us.

the biggest talk this offseason has been the overhaul of the LB core and that is for the better. im actually pretty excited about our defense this year! but im always excited about texans football!!!

Relax folks, I-Bar has never seen a glass that was half full. He just sets things very negative. Not sure why, but then he isn't surprised if something goes wrong.

Here's an article from ESPN on the Return of McNair. As I have said I think you are writing off the Titans far too quickly. If McNair is around they are exceedingly dangerous. He has proven to be a one man gang in the past and his desire is unquestionable. Again many of you feel I'm too pesimistic, but many of you are too optomistic particularly with respect to the O-line and our offensive capabilities. My pessimism stems from the O-line and the lack so far of any indication of change or improvement. You have your opinions and I have mine. We were in the games at the end of the 2nd season and played very well against the top teams. Again we had team chemistry and we didn't have it last year.

Those who EXPECT the playoffs this year are VERY likely to be dissapointed. We will be in the hunt I think, but will come up a bit short at 9-7 or 10-6. That would be nice progress and then in the 06 season make the playoffs and in 07 run deep and maybe make it all the way.

Well at least next year will be very interesting. To at least have a shot at the playoffs is way more exciting than hoping you go .500 as in last year. Our division will be extremely tough and improved all the way around. The Titans will be losing a lot of talent but they were also decimated by injuries. They had thirteen rookies on their roster and I'm sure will improve through the draft. In fewer words I wouldn't expect them to be an easy W by any means. Obviously the Colts will be difficult and the Jags are somewhat unpredictable I would think they're a favorite for a wildcard too. I think it all comes down to staying healthy. Every area of the Texans will likely be improved(at least faster). They will have the talent to dominate if the d-line and o-line step up. That's the big if at this point but they should be much better. With the parity in the NFL we could have a home playoff game or drafting at #13 again. How's that for a prediction personally I think it's about time to dominate! I thought it would happen last year they just didn't seem to have the confidence it takes.

i'm sorry maybe i'm missing something but dont a QB need some good players around him in order to be able to win games !?!?!?!? hmm i guess he can be the QB, running back, DE, WR and kicker/punter. :heh:

McNair has had the ability to work with his players. He's like Montana in certain ways in that he seems to find ways to beat teams despite the talent he has. Just don't under estimate the man. I hope we can beat them, but I think they will be better this year and they will have a new OC. That could be good and bad, but he will bring new plays and techniques to the table. They will be more unpredictable for us. Our team has yet to score enough points to stay out of the reach of the other team. Consequently, if its close, you can be easily beaten by McNair. Last year our team was very vulnerable to a good passing QB. You give McNair time when he's healthy and he will riddle our defense. I don't think you can count any wins as certain wins for our ball club. Other teams will always be in the game against us, and one mistake, is all it takes. We never seem to have a comfortible lead.

Ok, I never thought about that. I was associating playoffs with a 9-7, 10-6 year, which is what I will be happy with. If that doesn't cut the playoffs, so beit. :thumbup

I'm shooting at 9-7/10-6 myself. We will be in wild card contention with that record and this should be our first serious push for a playoff spot.

...please remember that 4 of our 7 wins were against the same 2 teams
and you can bet they will be gunning for us this year--we lost 9 of the other
12 games, including games to some lowly teams like the Tigers and Browns.
The playoffs this year? I guess some of us are wondering where all the
missing links are going to come from to win 9 or 10 games...don't get me
wrong, I'd love to see it. The Titans and Jags made major coaching changes,
as did many other teams which means we'll be seeing a lot of new stuff
from them and others. The Texans? Let's plan on '05 being another step
toward our goal of establishing a permanent/long lasting winning tradition
and not another 'well, at least we won one more game than '04,' or worse
yet---'so we had a worse record, just look at what we had to try and over-
come and it's only the 4th year of our 5 plus years plan'... :)

I find it strange how people will say they think we will win 9 or 10 games but then go on to say that we won't contend for the playoffs. Then they go on to say maybe we'll make the playoffs in 06 and then go deep in the playoffs in 07??? What kind of plan is that????? Hey, if you win 9 or 10 games, you WILL be a playoff contenter. And when you get to the playoffs anything can happen, so if they do make it in '05, why would you not think they would go deep this year? I'm saying 9 to 11 wins and Super Bowl after they get in the playoffs.

well we came back from a hude defict to tie the vikings at home but we lost, than we stop a 2 game losing streak by beatin the chiefs at home who were hungry for a win, we go to jacksonville and shut out the jaguars. Go to chicago in very cold conditions (we are not used to) and pick up the win. We kept the game against greenbay close, before farve finally threw a td to beat us. WE OVER CAME SOME ADVERSITY, so i wouldnt look at the teams we beat and say they werent big wins. This team is making progress and should be a play-off contender this season.

Some times we come together. Everything lines up, and we appear unstopable (you know the games, quarters I am talking about).

Other times, it's the Browns game.

If we can fix our problems we all b*tch about, and gel a little more, 9-7 or 10-6 will be easy. And as long as we win 1 or 2 more every year, I don't care about playoffs.

*contradicting self*
I would like to have some "quality" wins this year. Only time will tell.

The fact of the matter is that we have not made any improvements this year to make me think we will be a better team. We have not made enough changes to compete with teams that were better than us last year, or teams that made strives through the offseason to become better than us. That leaves us beating teams that are worse than us, and thats why this years record will be disapointing. We have a really tough schedule this year.

Tier 1 teams: Indy, Pittsburg, Baltimore
Tier 2 teams: Jax, Cin, Sea, KC, Ariz, Buffalo, Stl
Tier 3 teams: SF, Tenn, Clev

If we lose all our Tier 1 games, (4 losses), win all our tier 3 games (4 wins), and split the Tier 2 games, that is 8-8 season (and that is very optimistic in my opinion.

was listening to ESPN radio last night and they were going over some of the teams schedules. They talked about us twice, losing to Baltimore and S.F. :hmmm: So much for respect.

Here's how I go. Of course, this assumes we do not improve at all (and neither do the other teams) in the draft:

Home

Indianapolis- Loss (our offensive line hasn't improved enough)
Jacksonville- Win (the homefield advantage throws us over)
Tennessee- Win (the Titans could be the worst in the NFL)
Cleveland- Win (revenge game)
Pittsburgh- Loss (the Steelers have too much of a pass rush)
Arizona- Win (the new QB will give us an opportunity to blitz)
St. Louis- Win (a team going in the wrong direction)
Kansas City- Win (some improvement on defense but not enough)

Away

Indianapolis- Loss (no way)
Jacksonville- Loss (close game but tough on the road)
Tennessee- Win (stick it to Bud)
Baltimore- Loss (too much of a pass rush)
Cincinnati- Loss (a pick em game)
San Francisco- Win (another young QB)
Seattle- Loss (another pick em game)
Buffalo- Win (another young QB)

Here we see the Texans going 9-7. That would be a normal progression for this team. If you look at the losses I think you could see a direction we could go in the draft. Alex Barron would be an impact pick based on the number of teams that will hurt us with the pass rush. Of course, you can't build a team looking at next year's schedule.

I think the Texans will have a winning year, but no predicitions on games other than we finally beat Indy :woot . As for the draft, I hope the Texans do NOT waste a 1st round pick on Alex Barron. I don't think he's a top 20 talent. The O-line will be better with some continuity. I look for it to be much improved this year.I would like to see Casserly trade up(within reason) and get Derrek Johnson. Call me crazy, but I also think we will pick up a good RB on the 2nd day of the draft and he will have an impact this year when DD has his usual spate of injuries. Last, and certainly least, they really need to add spellcheck on here. :hmmm:
