The more I think about yesterday's game, the more I can't help but put the blame on on Jacques Reeves. Anytime the Jags were in 3rd down, they went right at Jacques Reeves. Can we please go ahead and put Molden in?

I would like Zgonina and Okam to start from now on until Amobi decides to play football like last year. When Zgonina and Okam were in last week we looked like we actually put some pressure on the QB as a unit.

I can't help but notice the disgust on the face of Andre Johnson. I doubt he renews a contract with us.

I know he has had some success but Steve Slaton is not an every down back. The plays he has made are that of a 3rd down back. He doesn't break alot of tackles and is easy to bring down when you get a hold of him. He is going to be very special, yes but we need a bigger back who can consistently get us 4 yards or more.

If Taylor were to go down, we would just have Darius Walker who is a slower version of Steve Slaton. Why can't we bring in another back?

I really hope we pull off an upset over Indy to get some confidence back and go on a 4 game win streak.

a few answers off the top of my head....

wasn't Reeves fault. He was in great position several times and he can't help that he is a nickel back starting at CB2. Mouldin probably gets lit up much more than Reeves does at this point. We should have drafted Reevis...but hey, life goes on.

I agree, we do need more toughness inside and Okoye gets pushed around too much.

AJ has a demeanor like Earl did....hard to tell Earl Campbell was interested too. Players go thru funks and he is in one...I don't think it's any more complicated than that.

Steve Slaton needs to be used like the Saints use Reggie Bush...start it now please. He looks like he can run between the tackles better than him though.

Why can't we get a nice feature back? Our director of Pro Scouting has given us Mercillis, Stacey Mack, Ron Dayne, Chris Brown and a retired (but still playing on the Texans roster) Ahman Green. You get rid of cancer by cutting it out. Its time to pink soap Bobby Grier.

I think Slaton breaks his fair share of tackles. I prefer a two back system anyways so I wouldn't say he isn't a feature back...I'll just say that I'd like an equally explosive compliment to him...

I think Andre is hurting and not in synch with Matt due to missing so much of pre-season stuff.

Don't know what to think about our DT's.

Reeves is terrible. He's been picked on by opposing QB's since he's been here. I don't care what kind of position he's in, he cannot continue to give up 8 catches a game with most of them being on 3rd down. Really poor technique and lack of physicality on his part.

This is an interesting idea. It's implementation would give the Texans a varied offense that could keep the defense on its heels a bit more. Reggie looks very good this year as he is being used.

If they would do it, the coaches would have to exercise the additional options wisely so the team doesn't look more confused than the defense. I don't want to hear about time to gel.

It would also rely on Slaton being the real deal. As ready as the fans are to give players three years before accpeting some players are bad, they are as quick to annoit someone great after a couple of games. Early returns are promisng for Slaton, so they may as well exercise him to see if he is a quality every down player.

I remember kubes first yr and the defense was struggling with the run and defense in general mid season. About that time they picked up Dalton from kc. After that, they were stuffing the run and the defense played a lot better. I thought they should have brought him back, but they didn't. I've said this man times that Okoye and Johnson are 1 gap penetrators. If u ask them to hit, stand the guard up read, then read the play and disengage, they can't do it. That kind of action is reserved for the haynesworth, henderson, stroud, type of dt. We're talkig about 6'6 330lbs guys that can do that and still "see" the play. Okoye and johnson are 6ft-6'2 300 lbs types that when they stand up to "see", they lose their leverage. Okam and zgoninia are 2 gap types. So to combat this, they should put Okam in between mario and Okoye to eat 2 blks and let those 2 eat the single or man and a half to generate pressure.

The cb's. I aways like to use the idea of the worse the coverage, the more press coverage u play. If the team plays more press even with the avg cb's, the guys don't get routed to death. If u have avg corners and the sit off in coverage, the good route runners become even better route runners. A team like J'ville doesn't even hve that, but when u give a free release, combined with the lack of pressure, equals easy throws for the qb. They need to press, bump and run so that way at least the cb is close enough to play the receiver and give the d-line a little extra time for a sack.

What would happen if he got tired of it and tried to force a trade? Totally unrealistic because of the accelerated bonus cap hit?

Honestly, I could easily see that happening. I don't think it's something AJ would do, but if this team continues to tickle the balls of mediocrity I can see him pushing for a move after next season.

Personally, I wouldn't blame him either. Sometimes I wish I could trade my fanhood to another team, but I've been here my entire life.....so I can't.

:goodpost: The Texans' "scheme" is for the corners to play off, which leaves short slant patterns open. The Texans had the linebackers stacked in which generally stopped the run but left those 8-10 yard slants open. Notice how the Jags rarely completed any out patterns. No one in the league covers short slants very well.

Not necessarily true. I saw plenty of times when Petey Reeves was in bump position and let the guy run right inside on him. He has horrible technique. He plays out of position too much, gets his feet crossed up too much, and has absolutely no ball skills. Bennett..well, I don't know what the hell his problem is. His technique isn't looking too hot right now either. His tackling is piss poor also.

God, please bring Dunta back to us suffering Texans fans stat :cry2:

Good Post. :fans:

at this point i woldnt mind if we traded AJ hes a bust ..............

Bad Post. :mcnugget:

I will admit that at this point I am interested to see what his value would be on the market.

If we can get two 1st or a 1st and a 2nd then I would do that trade in a heart beat. It looking more and more like AJ doesn't want to be here, and I don't want to keep him here if he doesn't want to play for us. Of course this is all speculation and we all know he's not going to come right out and say it, so we wont really know.

But Philly might be willing to do this trade, and if I'm not mistaken, I believe they have two 1st rounder for this years draft.

But you gotta wonder how the locker room would react if that scenario would go through.

I don't believe you guys. Andre Johnson is the best player we've got. You wanna find the donut hole this season this would be the quickest way to get there. You don't trade the rainmaker...even if he's had a couple of off games. A.J. makes everyone else on the offense better. He's a once in a generation receiver. You won't replace him easily.

You guys are unreal.

Panic mode sets in because we have lost 3 games. Now you want to trade one of the best receivers in the NFL. For hit or miss draft picks. We have a know player in AJ.

We lost the first game against the STEELERS who came out ready to crush anyone they played. They were getting murdered in their hometown papers for having a lousy defense.

Was not able to see game 2 - no power. Half of the Houston area had no power. Would your mind be on football with all that was going on here?

The offense looked pretty good against the Jags. Defense was iffy. Reeves is a problem. Said as soon as they picked him that he was horrible. He can cover but has absolutely no ball awareness skills. He could knock most of the passes away if he knew where the ball was.

I love football. I love the Texans - good, bad or indifferent. We have a team in Houston. I will support it win or lose. Most of the posts here have become extremely negative. There are a lot of teams in the NFL that had had a long history or losing for many many years. We have not been around long enough to go through what the Lions or Cardinals or Tampa Bay or even the Pats have been through or the Raiders for the past few years. Dallas may win games - but how long has it been since they won a playoff game?

Are we making progress? Yup. Are we looking better that game 1? Yup. Do we have one of the hardest opening few games? Yup. Is 3 or 4 or 5 loses at the end of the year bad? Nope.

Was Rome build in a day? There are no 60 second solutions. Can one always get the players they want? You have to make do with what you have. Do we have the best coaches? Again, you have to make do with what you have. If you guys are sooo good at evaluating talent - why aren't you coaching in the NFL? If you guys are soo good at coaching - why aren't you coaching in the NFL?

Why don't we support our team and stop tearing it apart.

Some people who post on here haven't finished their freshman year in college yet. Just sayin.

This thread wasn't meant to start a trade AJ debate. It was to bring up the awareness that AJ looks like he doesn't want to be here sometimes. I guess that Tennessee game and a few of his antics last Sunday kind of made me ask the question. However, that could only be AJ's desire to win.

I don't think DeMeco has really been playing up to his usual standards either. The whole team is just in a funk, but they are coming out of it. The last game was lost on a no-time-out play. The one before that was at least partially on a no-red-flag play. I'm not one of the fire Kubes crowd, but the play on the field hasn't been the biggest problem since Pittsburgh. Kubes is making some whopper mistakes....and we're still stuck with Richard Smith, who, as my avatar states, I would like to see gone by next season.

Only way I'd trade AJ would be for Hershel Walker/Ricky Williams type draft numbers OR several already proven, good players that fit definite needs on this team. AJ is is going to be this team's Hakeem. He has not even quite reached his potential yet. Besides that, he is just in a temporary funk.

:goodpost: You Go Grams! Rep coming your way.

I hear about Johnson this and johnson that and I think he's a good player, but he's not as good as some think. He has c hands, a body catcher, and when was the last time he's broken tackles and got yac? I mean moulds was a really good player on some bad buffalo teams. Jimmy Smith had qb carosels. At some point you just hve to do ur part. Stop dropping passes and letting them bounce off your chest. Be a threat after the catch like marshall, boudin, and t.o., and just play ball.

As far as trading him, everyone has a trade value, but u don't give him away. Plus he's signed for a minute anyway.

To each his own, but I've set my bar a little higher. My personal standard for my own satisfaction with the Texans is higher than 'they exist in Houston'.

Really, a 1 and a 2...? For, at worse case, the 5th best WR in football...? WHo do you draft with those two picks to equal AJ? Id love to hear how giving up the best player on your team for 2 draft picks makes aus better...?

Preaching to the chior.

I would have to think about trading AJ if Philly offered us Sheppard & 2 no.1's

Yep. At the very least find out what his value is. Folks around here enjoy mediocrity a little to much. If you want a first class organization, you need to have a strong drive for results. I ain't advocating trading perhaps our fourth to fifth best player currently on the offense, and most expensive. I just want to know what his value is on the open market. At the very least it may light a fire under his arse.

Just because you're content with being 0-3, don't expect the rest of the Texans fans base to find that acceptable. You say that the team is improving, well our record doesn't indicate that it is, nor does one good offensive performance out of the three.

And you can reference all of those teams that struggled for years and even decades, but no passionate fan wants to repeat what they did and compare their franchise to ones that had extremely long periods of down years to make themselves feel comfort in losing seasons. That is absolutely insane and an under achieving type of mentality. It's great that you support the team and find sunshine no matter what happens, but don't criticize others or question their unconditional support for the Texans just because they want to improve and voice their opinions as to where this team is falling short. The posts that you find so negative are not negative, when they're pointing out inefficiencies as they see them to be. I don't see or hear anyone in here saying that they're swapping teams or throwing their jerseys away. Their venting their frustrations because their are fans out there that actually want to be above mediocraty and don't find comfort in simply staying a float or below 500. We support our team and root for them no matter what, but we will expect rather than simply hope to continually improve.

I love some AJ, but that deal would be a no brainer. No way on earth Philly would do something like that though. Two 1st rounders and a really solid CB that has been to two Pro Bowls. Cassery and Millen don't work in the front office of Philly.

Excuse me...
I'm looking for the

I floated this last season too. If you agree that we're a few seasons away from being a serious playoff caliber team, than it would make sense to at least listen to offers.

Yes AJ is one of 3 studs on this team, but if a trade could be made in our favor, then I wouldn't mind it. It better be a damn good one though!

I don't think there is a team in existence that wouldn't give that deal a thought for any given superstud player. Save for Brady and Manning, I think most teams would give that offer some serious consideration.

The problem is that it's Lalaland to act like that is anywhere near a realistic NFL deal.

Real Men of Genius salutes you, Mr. Preposterous Trade Proposal Guy! :winky:

How about a teams next 50 years of 7th rounders? :worm:

I think it would be dumb to trade AJ for draft picks only. However, if we could trade for help on our defense like a stud DE opposite Mario or a shutdown corner along with another mediocre player thrown in (or a draft pick) I think it would be worth considering. AJ has been started to get injured more easily (missed 10 games in the last 3 years), and you have to wonder how long his health and speed will stay with him. It’s not like he is old (27) – this is only his 5th year in the league. Our WR corps has been a bit of a strength but without AJ if one of our WR goes down – we could be in trouble quick. I probably wouldn’t have even considered this – but considering his ho-hum attitude and past injuries?

Finding a dance partner would be tough – not sure who has the positions we covet that would be wiling to give them up for AJ. I know one thing for sure – if we traded him it would haunt us and if we keep him it will probably bite us somehow – just like the majority of personnel decisions we face LOSE - LOSE!
