I hate to beat a dead horse about the pass protection. This does relate I think.


Manning, who is coming off two knee operations in the offseason, says he's been releasing the ball in about 2 seconds compared to 3.5 in previous seasons. He's been sacked five times, and he's been knocked down about 25 times.

Three games into the season, the Colts have rushed for only 192 yards, the fewest in their first three games since Manning joined them in 1998. The Colts average 17.3 points, third-fewest with Manning.

Manning has thrown three touchdown passes, third-fewest at this early stage of a season. His 784 yards are the fourth fewest, and his four interceptions are the fourth most. His 59.2 completion percentage is the fourth lowest. His 73.1 rating is the second worst. His 6.53 yards per attempt is the third fewest.

just fwiw... its funny how average great QBs become when their line sucks.

It all starts with the line......I don't believe that Peyton Manning has all of a sudden become a bad quarterback...he just has terrible protection.
 
An NFL QB has the best job in town: The WRs aren't catching the ball, the plays were not called effectively by the coaches, and the oline is awful. He only gets replaced if he's hurt or has lost 12 games-in-a-row, and he gets his job back immediately when he's healthy again.

No wonder every young kid wants to play QB when he starts football.

I see we're back to the "it's the oline's fault" gimmick again.

I'm sure Peyton's knee injuries have nothing to do with his recent poor performance...

Probably a combination of things with Manning including but not limited to :


Not playing during Preseason ....

O-line not performing as well as it has in the past.

Recievers not what they once were .... getting old , lost a step ?

Knee injury / surgery.

Poor rushing attack ....3.6 ypc aint gonna cut it.


It doesnt bother me a bit to see the Dolts suffer .... I hope they suck all season and Pey_Me_A_Ton leads the league in sacks ... only to finish 8-8 so they dont get a real high draft position. :spit:

His knee is impacting his play.................so has something else that no one has been really been talking about..........he's lost 22 lbs since his surgery.
Where the wind goes, so goes Peyton.
 
Sure the offenisve line sucks if they are playing with reserves at key spots C/LT. The Colts have played against three of toughest defenses in the league and three teams who like to run the ball (Bears, Vikings & Jags). I have watched Manning and he is not there yet from his injury as you can see his timing is off.

There is more than meets the eye here to use this instance to show scalability for an otherwise known and agreeable theorem.

Just fwiw, its funny how great teams become average when their quarterback gets injured.

You're right. It's a combination of everything.

Our oline is not the greatest in the world. But with a competent QB taking the snaps, the oline is suitable. Schaub looked awesome until he took about three big hits: The two vs. Titans, and the one blindside hit in the Chargers game after he threw the pick.

Since then, Schaub has been jittery. An oline doesn't go from a low sack total to a high sack total, from one year to the next, without some (or most) of it being the QBs fault.

We're not a team, right now, that can afford sub-par "play" by any position. Everything has to click, at the same time, for this team to have a chance at just being competitive. Good teams? Even when they are "off" they still are competitive.
 
I watched the Titans game for the first time on Friday night was pleasantly surprised by what I saw from the offensive line. In fact, the howls of disappointment and disgust I've read here and at HT.com are not commensurate with the game I watched. The Texans had no problem moving the ball against the Titans and the O-line held its own quite well, unlike last year's game in Nashville where Fat Albert spent most of the game with his picnic lunch behind the line of scrimmage. I was under the mistaken assumption that last week's game was more of the same face-kicking we saw against Dallas in the preseason and Pittsburgh in week one, but in reality the guys in the trenches were not terribly outmuscled. The Texans lost because of terrible coaching decisions with the challenge flag and poor play-calling in the red zone. They were in the game throughout.

That might have some merit if we were talking about the same OL, but we aren't. We have three new starters, one a rookie, on the OL. That ain't "an oline" from last year to this.

Our oline, correct me if I am wrong, was patch-worked last season (latter part of season) when Sage was in there--Didn't we move guys around on the line to compensate? Where were the 4-sack games then?

Should people (HC and QB, in particular) get an "out" just because of a tweaked oline from year-to-year?

I mean, it looks like being an OL is the most miserable job out there.
