Whats going on at TE?

Is anyone else wondering what is going on with our TE position? I keep hearing how OD is so good and is a top notch TE. I cant figure out why we arent getting him the ball down the middle of the field. This is what he was supposed to bring to the offense. Where is he? Whos fault is it? Is he just not getting open? Is the OC not calling plays for him? Is Shaub not reading defenses correctly? what is it? Opinions please.

Daniels caught like 4 passes for 70 ish yards including one for about 32 yards on sunday.

The #1 thing that angers me about the gameplan is that OD isn't involved early enough, IMO. In the Steelers game he didn't get a single catch in the first half.

The guy is a winner and I want to see him more involved early and in the red zone. He isn't the biggest guy but he just finds a way to get the job done.

My biggest complaint about the TE position is seeing Joel Dreesen lined up out wide repeatedly.

There was at least one play where Dreesen knocked the you know what out of some Titan D-Lineman (might have been Vanden Bosch) so hes got that going for him.

Not from the WR position, he didn't. I could see lining him up out wide on a toss sweep or something, but they continually put him at WR and then run routes. We have four good WRs and we sit them on the bench so that Dreesen can play WR? Line him up at TE and I am OK. WR? Not so much.

I think he's a good TE but I think we'd all agree he should be getting more looks in the red zone. Much like the whole offense looks good between the 20's but punching it in is a major problem. I think he could help that out when we spread opposing teams out with 3WRs in the end zone and let him find a hole.

Amen.

Good point, but if he is an elite TE of hopes to attain that status one day, thats where he'll need to go. Not sure if we have that many balls to go around, though.

I don't think he is an elite talent, so I am not going to hold him to standard of elite. Anything over 65 catches from him is gravy in my mind. As a couple mentioned above though, probably more involvement in the red zone would be nice though.

What's going o with Kevin Walter. Did even even get one ball thrown his way Sunday? I thought he was our #2 WR

He caught 4 balls, but only got 15 yards out of them.

Bottomline when you are getting poor QB play, all of the recievers are going to not involved as they should be.

How many were over the middle? The 32 yard catch was a screen right and he ran 30 yards before he was even touched. Thats great but where is the TE in short yardage and red zone situations? When are we going to start throwing the ball to him down the middle of the field to keep oposing safetys honest? The TE position on this team is missused more than OLB. When is the last time one of our OLB's was used to blitz? Thats another rant for another time but at least there is a reason for that. Our OLB's suck!

Daniels is supposed to be a good athletic pass catching TE. If he is only going to get 2 or 3 balls thrown to him on screens or on out routes a game then we need to get a TE that can help out more in the running game.

I don't see where the anger is coming from. Daniels was solid on Sunday.

My anger isnt directed at Daniels. Its how he is being used.

That made me stand up and scream. Im pretty sure it was Bosc and he was lined up at WR.

This is what Im talking about. But why not use him like this no matter where we are on the field and especially early in the game to keep opposing safeties guessing so they cant tee off on our WR's. Isnt this what the TE position is supposed to bring to an offense?

THis is the kind of thing that is bothering me. Having TE's line up at WR and/or run WR routes. This is as bad as droping Mario Williams into coverage when he is the only front 7 player that can get consistent presure. Doesnt make sense. I would rather see us run 3 WR sets with leach at FB. I cant believe people are happy with the way we are using the TE.

Daniels was pretty damn solid on Sunday. This game would have been so different had AJ caught those TD passes. He would have had, what, about 100 yards or so? Daniels with around 70, and Slaton over 100 rushing. We would have won.

Keep hope alive for this Sunday! :)

I think he's mis used more than anyone on the texans. He should be a Y-flex out of base. They can have twin set one side, then motion owen out and force a lb or safety to cover him. Johnson should be 1st option, daniels should be 2nd. Daniels is a matchup problem when they decide to use him.

MUSSOP, that is by far the greatest avatar of all time. where did you find that? first time i've seen it

I did a google image search of Vince Young. I cant remember the website where I got it. Acually I have a few pretty good ones like it.

Glad im not the only one that feels this way. When teams are blitzing Danies should be tearing them up over the middle.

Here are the passes thrown to OD

First Quarter
3-6-TEN 6 (4:00) 8-M.Schaub pass incomplete short right to 81-O.Daniels (20-N.Harper) [93-K.Vanden Bosch].
Second Quarter

1-10-HOU 25 (14:40) 8-M.Schaub pass short left to 81-O.Daniels pushed ob at TEN 43 for 32 yards (31-C.Finnegan).

Second Quarter
2-9-TEN 31 (11:51) 8-M.Schaub pass short right to 81-O.Daniels to TEN 20 for 11 yards (52-R.Fowler).

Third Quarter
1-10-HOU 33 (:12) 8-M.Schaub pass short right to 81-O.Daniels to TEN 48 for 19 yards (52-R.Fowler).

Fourth Quarter
3-6-TEN 44 (14:12) 8-M.Schaub pass short right to 81-O.Daniels to TEN 35 for 9 yards (24-C.Hope).

Finnaly a pass over the middle to our TE but there is only 4.34 left in the game and its a short one
3-10-TEN 48 (4:34) 8-M.Schaub pass incomplete short middle to 81-O.Daniels (50-D.Thornton).

Doesnt this make you wonder what exactly the coaches expect from the TE position? What is its purpose?

Cool. Texans don't need him. If the thread starter is upset a the way the TE is utilized, it wouldn't matter who is our TE.

Youre right. It wouldnt matter if it was Kellen Winslow or Ozzie Newsome if all they are going to do is throw 3 to 5 short out routes or screens to him every game.

I don't see where the anger is coming from. Daniels was solid on Sunday.

The function of the green zone dysfunction is on a young o-line not executing or a OC not having the correct play called. They had some drops Sunday...but the QB's jersey hasn't been exactly squeaky clean the last couple of games either. Daniels appears to have solved his fumbling problem. And he is a monster in the seam of a zone. There's only a couple of guys in the league I would trade him for straight up. This type of tight end is a QB's best friend. Up to the HC and OC to put the talent in a position to succeed.
