Texans view from a Titans fan.

Guys, why so much doom and gloom around here? You guys have a good team I think. Fisher was very complimentary after the game and again today at his presser.

You guys pretty much bottled up our running game, and you guys played well enough on defense to win the game I thought. It was much closer than I had hoped, and I thought the Titans went all ultra conservative late in the 2nd quarter, but most of that had to do with the defense.

You guys will be fine. I can tell when I see a good team. You guys will make some noise this year. Might even be able to challenge for the wild card spot.

Damn...what kind of crazy world is it when Titans fan has a more optimistic view of our team that we do?! :mcnugget:

People are just tired of watching our team flounder around year after year. It's not that we lost to the Titans (it doesn't help) as much as how we are losing these games.

The Titans weren't that great a few years ago, but here you are, once again putting out a great team that's winning games. In all honesty, many Texans fans see the same old, same old from this franchise. There is a Groundhog Day mentality that is permeating our fanbase. We see a QB wearing no. 8 that is deja vu. Three first round picks on a D-line that can't fight it's way out of a paper bag. An offensive line that is only consistent in walking backwards week after week. A soft cover 2 from a scaredy-cat defensive coordinator.

I'm getting depressed now. Man, tell me how great we are again. :shades:

most of the league probably puts us in that Lions/Rams perpetual losers group....so for me at least, its hard to mock bad teams right now. We've never had a winning record.

Well I'm not buying into all the doom and gloom around here. Yeah, we puked up a couple of bad performances so far and we got more holes on our team than we do in our streets. We have a QB contriversy brewing and our defense sucks more than a black hole in the Large Hadron Collider.

But, we are not the worst team in the league and I still think Kubiac and Smith will eventually get us there. Kubiac, as has been pointed out elsewhere, is a rookie head coach with a rookie GM. I think they will eventually pull us out of this mire. There are worse teams in the NFL than the Texans. The Jacks and Colts are not as good this year as we all thought they would be. Not all is horrible.

But one way or the other, we'll eventually have to get a QB to lead this team, or we'll be stuck with mediocrity.

or we'll be stuck with mediocrity.
if we aren't stuck in mediocrity now....7 years into this thing without ever having a winning record, I'd like to ask you what exactly are we were stuck in right now if not mediocrity?

right now we ARE stuck in a mire of mediocrity. But, it's better than another 2-14 season. I still think we will win 7 to 9 games this year. I been saying all along it's entirely possible we have another 8-8 year.

A coach and GM in their 3rd years are not rookies.

A coach and GM in their 3rd years are not rookies.

Not technically, no. But their jobs with the Texans are the first time for both of them they've been the top dogs calling all the shots. The drafts have been pretty good, the free agent signings not so much, game management sinking. I'm not excusing the failures, I'm just saying I still have faith they will pull this out.

Im going to love when we start winning a few games and everyones view changes completely, as it did last season.

Class act, and I appreciate you being kind to us. I seriously do.

But this team is as flat as a 2-week-old bottle of Dr. Pepper. I really think there is an overall "poor, poor us. we can't beat anybody" mentality among the players. It's been like that since the newness wore off after the big win vs. the Cowboys when we first started playing again as a franchise.

I never thought I'd look back on the Capers era and think "Hmmm...other than a lack of a running game, we did OK compared to THIS."

Steve Slaton probably kept a lot of Texans fans from jumping off a bridge this past Sunday. Kubiak might have found that diamond in the rough that he's always seeking at RB.

Now let's see if he can solve that other glaring deficiency that is holding us back. But we are not finishing 8-8 if this keeps up.

"I honestly think we can be 5-2 by the bye week..." - GP

LOL. I can bail out on that statement because our bye week was in week 2, not week 8. Now give me $700 billion, please. Hey, maybe Casserly has been running Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae all these years?

I said it before the game...I believe the Titans are the best team in the league now that the crybaby is no longer the qb....I mean Kerry Collins is terrible but he is infinitely better than the other guy and they are almost unstoppable...I really didn't expect the game to be still close in the third quarter.

Get ready fellow Texans...we will probably lose again next week. But, hey I still think we have a good, young team and starting with the Mario Draft we have drafted very well....it just takes time to become dominant in this league.

As far as Schaub goes.......hmm.......I thought he was gonna be good. Crap, maybe we can get Stafford if we continue losing like this......

Im going to love when we start winning a few games and everyones view changes completely, as it did last season.

No way we finish 8-8. Unless Schaub finds a new team and starts dialing all 52 new phone numbers.

.500 or less, from now on, is not good enough. "A few games" is like saying "I'm happy with just a little bite of a Whataburger hamburger."

Dude, you want to eat the whole burger. It's THAT good. Right?

Based on his lack of game management alone, Kubiak is not winning me over as a fan anytime soon.

So much time...7 years' worth.

I agree, but this season is different don't you think? We had faith last year, and went with out best so far...8-8. We started o-2 in the 7-9 season did we not? The guys went through a lot this week (Ike) and had less time to prepare for the Titans because of it. I say we beat Jax at their place this Sunday. :)

It'll get better.

I'll revert back to the Cowboy games of 07 and 08 . Even though it was preseason , we looked alot better last year . We started out 2-0 , then lost AJ so we had hope this year . :panic:

Yeah, we did look better last year. We stunk it up in the Steeler game, but I give the guys a little pass for this week (Ike and messing up everything...players sleeping at each other's homes, etc.). We bounce back next week with a W. :)

Honestly a win next week and we are 1-2 and being the first team in NFL history to not have a home game until week 5 against good teams, thats not bad at all. Now if we lose next week it will be a different story.

I don't quite understand the knee-jerk reactions either.

You guys hung with one of the better teams in the league and had a very good chance to win a tough division game on the road. You didn't get manhandled, you didn't get out coached (well by the Titans at least, Kubiak kind of beat himself) and you didn't even really get out played. Kubiak and company had a very good offensive game plan coming in. You guys did something neither Jax nor Cincy were smart enough to really utilize, the misdirection. Kubiak was smart enough to realize that our ends are not disciplined (they're not taught to be, unfortunately) and was able to use Slaton's speed to get to the outside. Had he run normal sweeps and pitches all game Slaton wouldn't have had 100+. The OC did a great job of running the TE screens, roll outs and calling plays devised to create cut-back lanes... and it worked.

AJ dropped two touchdowns that he will normally catch. Uncharacteristic of him, lucky for us though because Harper was on him both those plays. Which makes me wonder why AJ every lined up on the left (Finnegan's side) because we don't rotate our CBs to either side, they stay put in a base offensive formation.

Questionable play calls in the redzone, I believe they should have pounded Slaton. I believe it would have been td's instead of t-o-d's. The Titans' pass rush is that good and Schaub was already having trouble throwing the ball, I don't get the play call. You guys sort of got away from the run all together in the second half, our D tightened but it was still a close game at the time, I say pound it.

You guys shouldn't worry. Big game this weekend that could easily turn it around for you guys. Jax o-line is in shambles and your d-line is a much better matchup than Indy's undersized four. We'll see if they can keep Saturday off Demeco (if he plays). Stop the run and let the pass rush loose and cause havoc in the backfield.

And, now don't take this the wrong way, but I like that you aren't happy. Now in year seven, yall are past the moral victories and "looking on the bright side." You should expect to compete and I believe you have arrived, no longer can teams simply write you off (couldn't last season either). I am simply trying to add a purely objective point of view, I wouldn't be posting all this if I didn't believe it to be true.

Good luck next week and in those up-coming... see you in December.

Well, after a time the pat on the backs well done in the Monday Morning pressers tend to aggravate more than commiserate. There was a line in the outlaw Jose Wells....don't pee down my back and tell me it's raining. The joy I'm taking after this seventh consecutive loss to the Titans is this: Vince Young is out of time. Bud will make a move this off season and cut his losses.

I don't want to start a war with you on this, but let's get something straight: Titans are NOT one of the top teams in the league.

You have played some shell-shocked teams for the first part of your schedule.

Do you think the Titans would have looked like "one of the league's better teams" in week 1 playing the Steelers at Pittsburgh?

I know you're in a good mood, and you're being gracious and all...

But let's not start thinking that the Titans are "that" special.

Anyways, thanks for throwing us a bone. I can sleep tonight.

There's no winning with you is there man? I apologize for letting my bias show by saying that the Titans, who are 3-0 and top ten in the league in every major stat category, are one of the "better" teams in the league. Basically saying they are in the top ten. Please excuse me for that.

I think SI had y'all as the best team in the AFC .

It's not so much the game against the Titans that alarms me ... it's the Steeler game and then watching the Eagles make the Steeler offense look so bad . We could'nt stop the Steelers .

Not to mention the Titans were a top 5 defensive team last season and 5th overall in rushing last year....

Yes, the titans are a good team. Even better now that they have a QB worth a damn.

Having said that, we still had our chances to win that game. It might have been an ugly win, but it should've been won. SIX freakin times in the redzone resulting in 12 points?? Gimme a f--in break.

WE beat ourselves. Poor decision making and poor individual play = 12 points in 6 trips. :gun:

Anybody tell those guys they're not playing basketball? :)

More than likely the two most hated teams by the average Texans fan would probably be the Cowboys and the Titans for obvious historical reasons. Anytime we have a loss, and in the case of the Titans so many losses, folks get a tad testy around here.

As far as things look right now after three weeks the Titans will take the division and the Texans have a darn good chance of NOT being in last place in our division. I never did expect us to be in the playoffs this year, but I did hope for not being in last place. Again.

That, my friend, is the sign of a bad team.

It's funny how things come down to perception. My buddy tells me that I'm being pessimistic, but I say it's realistic. He says that he's being optimistic, but I tell him he's drinking koolaide. Perception.

But, at the end of the day, it's like the sig says: don't put sprinkles a dog turd and tell me it's a brownie. You eat it first if that's the case. I'm not hungry, thankyouverymuch.

Hey, maybe they turn this thing around. 14 games to go. It is possible, and I'm sure we all agree on that. The disagreement comes in when we speak of probabilties. Outside of a couple of individual performances, we do not see much to hang our hopes on right now. Maybe that will all change after the next game. Who knows...nut up Texans! Show us something. Give us fans a reason to hope.

You can use the Astros as an example . They put themselves in a big hole because their pitching stunk . Then they battle back to being in wild card contention just to fall short which means they still need pitching and are just OK .

The Texans are on the brink of putting themselves in a big hole . They'll battle back and beat the Lions , Browns , and such . They may get to almost 500 when they'll play the good teams again . I don't believe they'll pull a rabbit out of the hat unless other teams get injured .

It's a nice comparison, but the Astros have had winning seasons and the team itself has heart. I'm starting to wonder if our team is the Oz tinman sometimes. Individual players have heart, but as a team, I'm just not seeing it right now.

I'm just ranting. I need power so I can focus my mind on more productive endeavors. I haven't been able to crank up my guitar and blow out my eardrums in weeks. I need some distortion to get my balance. :headbang:

I am disappointed, with all the talk of "next step" and this team lays a fat goose egg (twice) when playing playoff teams

It seems to be the case with the Texans.. I remember a few years ago (2004)when there was talk of "playoffs" after being 4-3 and when that was mentioned ..This teams got b-slapped in denver by 18 points and and then again by indy and they rolled us by 35 points

but we do well on battle red day :D so I am optimistic

That, my friend, is the sign of a bad team.

or it could be just that the team had a bad day:

does aj usually drop 2 td balls? that was 4 pts dropped yest (we got a td from the other one)
does pittman usually give a bad snap: no= 1 pt dropped

that was the difference in the game imo because we get those points and its 24-17 in the 3rd q and we kick short fg's instead of going for every 4th down

the way i look at it is we played pretty well against a very good team on the road and probably shouldve won really but this is what growing pains are all about- losing because of mistakes that are stupid and so annoying that it doesnt happen again

Yep. I don't get the whole "I knew we would be going 0-2...but we were dominated in both games!"

No, we were dominated in ONE game. Titans did not dominate us, they played good and we made silly mistakes. Such as AJ dropping passes and Kubiak plays here and there.

We were in the game all the way until the 3min mark about...HOW is that domination? I don't see it we had every chance to win the game. Domination is never having the chance to win the game...like the Steelers game.

0-2 is NOT the end of the season ppl...srsly. I keep hearing ppl say it is the end of the season...if they win next week...I know you guys will all overreact again.

I think they will be alright and still finish .500 maybe a game over that. Nothing has changed for me. I expected to lose these two games...did I expect for the Steelers to blow us out...no. But the Texans had many chances to win the game, all you can ask for is for them to have those chances and capitalize on them. Obviously we did not capitalize on our chances week 3, that does not mean it will continue that way.

2 games does not a season make. If it did, we would have been a playoff team last season :shades:

If you want to add some bad luck to the equation, let's look at it like this? Starting with the Steelers, best defense in the league, then when coming home to regain our composure, we get Hurricane Ike, and instead of having a Home Game with Home Field Advantage, we have to have a Bye week in week 2. Has that EVER happened before to any other team. Bye week is a time to rest and regroup, We hadn't even started!!! (Poor baltimore got stuck in the middle of that too) Then off to the team that knocked Schaub out twice, no excuses, but.... then to the Jags. All out of town. The last time an NFL team played their first 3 games on the road was in 1991. That was 18 years ago.

Now, I ask you, bad team or bad luck with some bad breaks and lots of rookies. I prefer to take the high road and it has nothing to do with Koolaid. it will be okay.

Boy I swear I've never seen so many people make excuses for a team in how many seasons now? I'm hearing about growing pains, REALLY?? In the third year of a new regime?

You guys expected to lose? Why is that? The Cleveland Browns have played awful this year, but they played the Steelers waaaay better than the Texans did. How about how the Eagles hit the Steelers in the mouth? Oh yeah, no way we could have matched that intensity at all right? I actually predicted that we could upset the Steelers because it was game one, and maybe we could catch them off guard if we really BROUGHT IT. Boy was I wrong to think that we had the heart to do that under Kubiak and Smith.

The Texans have been losing games the same way there were losing games under Capers. No intensity, no back bone, no identity. But we've still got the same ole excuses I heard 4 years ago when I wanted Capers out of here, and everyone was saying how it was all growing pains and how this was just a young team on the rise and how they just needed time.

I'm just curious, is it going to take 10 years before we ever get a solid pass rush outside of Mario? How many draft picks have we spent on D line?
