So after 30 plus years, before luv ya blue, I have seen owners, coaches, players and stadiums come and go. Results the same. So after much abuse I have decided it must be me. So its over and I wish you the best. I'll try not even to notice the score. It's over.

I wouldn't call him a loser. I kind of see where he is coming from. Eventually people will start to wonder what else they could be doing on a Sunday rather than watching our team lose and thinking "maybe next year."

I'm not sure he is saying he will go to another team, just that he is done with this one. Sounds like he may be done with watching football on Sundays.

I can empathize. It is just no fun watching football on Sundays. Even though we ended up at .500, last season was fun watching this team improve. There is nothing fun about watching this team and it just feels the same as it has felt the past couple of years.

I don't see myself ever rooting for another team...if anything, maybe just find something else to do.

Me either. For me, its more than getting tired as a fan of watching my team lose, It's more about getting tired of watching other fans celebrate their badazz teams like the patriots(maybe not this yr b/c of injury to brady), colts, steelers(remember we pounded them pre-ben qb), and as much as I hate to say it the cowboys.:thinking:

My hat is off to you for being able to endure 30 years of it, especially the last 10. I intend to be here for the duration, but you can only take so much punishment.

The hard part is rooting for some of those great Oiler teams only to not have football to cheer for to getting football back and watching sub .500 since the Texans came into being. I will cheer no matter what it just is such a f'ing drag to watch this kind of ball.

I agree with that. I've been a Texans fan from day one, but I also like to enjoy my days off. Like maybe tune into a another football game that just a bit more competitive?

I mean really . . . did any of the rest of you Texans fans really enjoy yourselves today? You don't there was something else you could have been doing that was just the least more enjoyable, relaxing, and entertaining. I'm mean really, did you really have any fun watching that game today? When was the last game that you did?

It's starting to get old.

Let me guess you're 27... so would you say that if you were age 55 and had 28 more seasons of missing the playoffs or getting bounced after one postseason game?

I agree with you though, I'm a texans fan for life.

ps. if it wouldnt be to much to ask, could you become a cowboy/titan fan.
 
Just think about something for one minute....

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were terrible for a loooooong time. Basically, they were the league laughing stock from the early 80's until 1996 or 1997.

The Detroit Lions have been a bad football team for a long time as well.

I could go on, but the point is these things take time. It doesn't help that we started about 4 years late on developing our team. The Capers/Casserly era was a disaster, but that has already been covered to death.

If anyone wants to give up, that's fine. The NFL is full of fair weather fans. Me? I choose to stick out the rough times. It makes the winning at the end that much sweeter.
 
Wow I cant believe this is a thread, are people actually saying this after 2 games! Not only that a fan is a fan for life no matter what I will be as much as a fan as i am now!

I can relate to both sides. It sure gets tough on Sundays like today to watch them lose. But when they click on all cylinders, it's a blast to watch. I was an Oiler fan through the good and bad times and I'll remain a Texan fan as well. Today sure was a drag though.
 
I can kind of relate to what the OP is saying. I have been crabby all day after watching that bad abortion. My bad mood caused me to get in a fight with my wife. I can see the appeal of not caring allowing one to have a carefree Sunday.

To put things in perspective to some of our younger posters, I am 33 years old. My famly had season tickets to the Oilers growing up. Despite choking like a dog in the playoffs, the Oilers at least threw us a bone and made the friggin playoffs and won their division. They were a tease but at least they got us excited.

The last time a Houston team was in the playoffs was FIFTEEN YEARS AGO! I was a freshman in college back then.

As bad as the new Browns have been, they have at least thrown a bone to their fans by making the playoffs once under Butch Davis and by winning 10 games last year.

Hell, perrenial screwup teams like the Lions and Cardinals have made the playoffs in that time. The Lions last appearance was in 1999 and the Cardinals in 1998.

The Texans have yet to throw us a bone. Its natural that some would want to stop getting their heads beaten in with no payoff. I am still gungho aboard this train.Ask me again, when I am 55 like the OP if nothing changes.

We're 0-2. This season is not lost.

I was an Oiler's fan from the late 60's and I've been a Texans fan since the team was assigned to the city. I've seen some really bad football and some really bad football teams.

And I don't think this team is that bad.

Now LAST year, after the Charger's game, I was almost suicidal. I deleted all the Texans' games I had recorded and just had to distance myself from the team for a little bit. I stopped posting on here for a little bit because I was so upset I didn't need to hear other upset people freaking out.

And then we started turning it around a little bit and we played some good games last year after that dark period of horrible losses: the Raider game, the Bucc game, the Saint game, the Bronco game.

I have total faith that we're going to turn this around. This year.

I agree...I'll never give up on the Texans....never. But I do get frustrated/disappointed...because I care. But I'm here for the long haul...
 
Being a Saints fan, I can certainly empathize with the OP, although I sure haven't been watching my team suck for 30 years just yet (not that they haven't - just that I haven't been around for all of it).

It sucks, but how hollow do the victories feel when you convince yourself to not give a **** about the losses? We're historically one of the worst franchises in all of pro sports, but I just can't see myself really ever quitting the team. The players, the coaches, yeah it's a love/hate relationship. But announcing that you're "giving up" on the team (especially since you know you'll be right back when the wins come) is a cop-out at best, attention whoring at worst.

I don't think a man of his age is here for attention. I think he is just saying that he has come to the point where he no longer sees the benefit in watching this team play anymore.

Can you blame him? Can you really blame a guy for running out of that reserve of hope that Houstonians have lived off of for countless years? I really can't. If anything, it just saddens me that we have lost another fan.... and I hope it never happens to me.
 
I'll never give up on the Texans. I might, however, not watch entire games. I started doing chores around the apartment during the 2nd half yesterday. Somehow washing clothes and cooking for this week seemed more important at the time.......
 
I am not worried.

Could Sage do better? Probably.

Could Kubiac manage the game and coaches better? Definitely.

Will we do better against weaker teams? Probably.

Do we still have football to take our minds off the devestation caused by the storm? Yes.

When you think about what we as a city have been through the last 10 days and the people that lost their homes and lives, I begin to step back and realize how happy I am to be able to see our football team play regardless of the outcome. As a Houston Texan fan, I am pretty happy today.
 
I think some people are being a little harsh on the guy. He didnt say he was going to become a Cowboy fan, he just said he is done with the Texans which is fine. How else is the org gonna know that changes need to be made if people keep gobbling up tickets and merch for a crappy product?

You say that we are only 0-2 like its ok, but really we are 0-2 and look awful. We have not made the strides that should have been made in 7 years of getting high draft picks and a clean slate.
 
To me it starts with the draft . If you are a fan , you believe your team made all the right moves and drafted 5 future HOF players .

Then camp starts and we go to practices , read all the press , watch Brooke Bentley which is'nt bad at all , and get that warm fuzzy feeling ( which was probably from Brooke ) that this may be the year .

The pre-season starts and you play the Cowboys and think Hmmm ... this looks like something from 05 but maybe it was a bad day .

Opening day ... the kickoff ... and we get our butts kicked ... we did'nt even put up a fight . Here come the Titans ... after a hurricane ... we need a win . oh noooooo ... we can't get the ball in the endzone and were completely outcoached and outplayed .

What's next ... we'll see what this teams made off . It would be so easy for them to fold their tent , which means ... as Obama says ... it's time for change .

I think we've been from a 3-4 to a 4-3 on defense and went to a zone blocking scheme on offense . We still have the same problems we've always had just different names on the jerseys .

My guess is this team does'nt know how to compete with the big boys . When the Texans say they look for a certain type of player ... I'm wondering who really wants that certain type of player . I'm wondering if they're looking for Richie Cunningham in pads .
