Those of us seven hours away fron Houston will not get the game, apparently. I really wanted to see this game. Can we try to search for someone that's streaming the game online? :texflag:

Yeah, I agree. My work schedule will not allow me to get to a sports bar, so hopefully I can get a stream.

I just found out that I have to take Tuesday here as my RDO for working this saturday, so the change means I could catch the game..... so we'll see what we can dig up in terms of a link.

I suspect one will come to light closer to game time. I will trawl a few Ravens boards on Monday, normally someone on another teams board has found a link.

Yeah, the problem with the stream thing is we really won't know until the game starts. There's not really any way to be 100% sure that you can find it streaming.

This is a tad irritating. I just got an e-mail from the Astros saying Friday and Saturday are postponed but apparently Sunday is on as scheduled.

The Houston Astros announced today that the club has postponed the games scheduled for Friday (Sept. 12) and Saturday (Sept. 13) against the Chicago Cubs because of the potential impact of Hurricane Ike on the Houston area. The announcement was made by Astros President of Business Operations Pam Gardner.

There are various scenarios under consideration with regards to the rescheduling of the postponed games.

No worries:

HOUSTON TEXANS GAME UPDATE

Due to the importance of allowing the Houston area to focus on its recovery from the expected arrival of Hurricane Ike on Friday, the Houston Texans' home game Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens has been re-scheduled for Monday night September 15 at 7:30 p.m at Reliant Stadium. The game originally was scheduled to be played on Sunday, September 14 at 3:15 p.m. The Texans-Ravens Monday night game will be televised on the local CBS station and on ESPN2.

All tickets to the Ravens game will be honored on Monday night. Please note the following timeline for the game:

Parking lots will open at 3:30 pm (Platinum at 2:30 pm)
Budweiser Plaza will open at 5:30 pm
Stadium gates will open at 6:00 pm

This doesn't mean anything for Austin - unless it can be confirmed that Austin is considered a "secondary market" for the Texans, which I don't think it technically is. This only applies to Houston as far as I can tell.

It means it will be shown on ESPN2 in Austin.

I have a feeling this is just for Htown, BMore, and secondary markets. I have a feeling Denver wont get the game.

Why would they show the game on CBS and ESPN2 if it was only for local and secondary markets. Context and logic dictate that CBS is for the local and secondary markets and ESPN2 is for the national market.

Well, first of all - logic has nothing to do with anything when it comes to this kind of thing. KEYE has proven that over and over again.

The reason it would be shown on CBS and ESPN2 (if it's even going to be on ESPN2) is because there's a rights issue... we have two networks with conflicting rights:

1 - CBS has the AFC contract, and this game was originally a CBS game.
2 - ESPN has exclusive rights to all games on Monday night, regardless of circumstance.

So the simulcast would be both a compromise, and a way to fulfill the rights of both networks in the face of an unusual situation.

Also, it's not going to be shown on ESPN2 anywhere. I promise you.

Why?

Football is football on Monday night whether it is on ESPN or ESPN2 right? I am only asking because I got a little happy with the idea that I could see the game out here Monday night and you decided you come over and kick me in the balls.

This is an odd statement, given that they just said it was going to be on CBS and ESPN2

I am pretty sure this thing willl be nationally televised now. ESPN2 does not have local capabilities. They are a national station, and whatever they play goes out to all their subscribers. So if its on ESPN2 in Houston, its going to be on everywhere

I think DC is doing what I'm doing. We don't want to get our hopes up only to see an ESPNNEWS feed on ESPN2 beginning at gametime. It's just that it's happened too many times. Those uf us in Austin will act a fool if we see opening kick off and all is well.

I'm thinking the reason for the two channels is because incase cable is down due to the Hurricane, the local stuff should be ready to go and will show to the locals. The rest of the nation can watch ESPN2

I see. That sucks.

ESPN2 really needs to step up. I pay extra for Sunday Ticket and I wont get the game - complete bull.

If this was N-awlins, they would be sure to show the poor Saints and try to look like they care. Why not care about Houston? Do people have to die first? Pathetic.

Totally agree. ESPN needs to step up here and compromise...

Watch it turn out to be one of the greatest games in history, multiple back-and-forth lead changes, spectacular plays all night, and a dramatic end-of-game ending...

But nobody saw it.

And that, folks, would be Houston Pro Football luck. :shades:

CBS is the one who needs to man up. Nobody is going to watch whatever stupid sitcom they have slotted vs. ESPN's MNF each week. So might as well try and capture the other half of the football universe who doesn't cream over the Cowboys being on. There's a potential for CBS to man up here. If it's being shown locally on CBS...why can't they carry it to the other CBS stations? Ridunkulous. That's about $20 of my Sunday Ticket money down the drain.

But it won't happen. It's. Just. The. Way. It. Goes.

This is really starting to piss me off. There are 5 billion cable channels and none will step up to the plate!

It can only be shown on CBS in the local markets because ESPN has national rights to ALL monday night games - no exception. So ESPN is the one that has to either show the game or allow it to be shown on Sunday Ticket or CBS outside of local market. CBS has no rights for monday except for the city the teams are in and secondary markets, if ESPN is not showing it.

While I'm upset about the potential of not seeing the game, my main concern right now is my family and friends in the Houston area. I want everyone to be okay so I'm good with listening to it on the radio or waiting for the highlights.

Frm ESPN after my email this morning:

Thank you for contacting ESPN.

The Texans-Ravens Monday night game will be televised on local CBS stations in the primary and secondary markets of the Texans (Houston, Beaumont-Port Arthur, and Bryan, Texas) and the Ravens (Baltimore; Washington, DC; Salisbury, MD; and Harrisburg, PA).

ESPN has exclusive primetime rights for Monday Night Football. We aplogize for any inconvience this may have caused to DIRECTV subscribers.v"Screw you, we don't care that its a hurricane - we are stingy"

LAME.

It's not CBS anyone should be mad at. It's ESPN or the NFL.

In a case like this - ESPN has the OPTION to televise the game with their second announcing team, on ESPN2. CBS affiliates have NO SAY in whether or not they can show the game Monday night. The ONLY ones that are LEGALLY ALLOWED to show it are the previously-mentioned secondary markets - Beaumont, Bryan, etc.

ESPN decided that they will go with televised poker and whatever other garbage is on ESPN 2 up against MNF.

The ONLY network that can "step up" is ESPN/2. They hold all the power in this situation - and they declined to make it one of their games.

Now, the NFL can, at their discretion - allow non-secondary markets to show the game on CBS - but they decided against it this in this case. Probably because they'd be competing with the Cowboys. (that last part is just speculation on my part)

Let's bombard ESPN with e-mails...It only makes sense to show the game on ESPN2 with the Mikes doing the call. (yes, I'm willing to forget about the announcing team)

Well, DTV has it on the NFL package. I would need to go to a Sports bar but cannot do it on Monday evening. Hopefully we will find a video link for it.

I'm with you 100%. Maybe someone can stream it from their DirecTV for us. The sports bars down here (i.e. buffalo wild wings) will show the Cowboys and Cowboys only, so I'm SOL for Monday.
