Texans 1st offensive play?

Set scenario of where Texans will be on field and what is your call for first play. Mine would be fake a hand off to Slaton between LT & LG, Schaub bootlegs to right and fakes a reverse to Jacoby Jones and then he delivers a pass to Walters as AJ and Davis pull DBs deep. Ok, tear it apart.

I want to see a very aggressive plan of attack against Steelers. I do not think we can win by "hoping to hang on to ball" and grind it out. We need quick surgical strikes through the air and work the TEs Breuner and OD with some plays to slot. I also believe our kicker will be a huge factor.

7 yd out to O.D. He eludes the first defender and gains 46 yds because Pittsburgh blitzed their safeties.
Chris Taylor earned half his game check when he picked up Polomalu on the blitz.

I think it's a pass to Andre Johnson on a post pattern that picks up about 14 yards. It's either that or a Hail Mary......my dream wasn't fully vivid to me this morning.

Ah, Football!
I decided to take a little break and go back and check each game. Each play listed is per game. 1-16

1. Pass short to AJ for 5 yds

2. Pass short to Leach for no gain

3. Pass short to Green for 2 yds

4. Dayne up the gut for 2 yds

5. Deep pass to Walter incomplete

6. Schaub scrambles for 6 yds

7. Pass short to Jones for a loss of 1

8. Pass short to Jones for 5 yds

9. Rosenfels scramble for 14 yds

10. Pass short to Leach for 2 yds

11. Schaub around end for 7 yds

12. Dayne runs for 5 yds

13. Pass short to AJ for 7yds

14. Pass short to Walker for 2 yds

15. Pass short to AJ for 18 yds

16. Pass short to AJ for 17 yds

Sooo....I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it'll be a short pass. I suppose a short pass to AJ for 5 yds.

Nice work Hou-Tex, rep your way. On a side note, that's a little disturbing that we aren't more aggressive on the first play of the game to set the tempo. We seem pretty predictable by going off of those results.

So....

Slaton is starting...?
Polo, this is from Kubiak......FWIW. It sounds as if Green will start with Slaton being the first coming off the bench. Sounds ok to me.

(on if RB Ahman Green will start) “I don’t see any reason why he won’t. He looked good in practice, today. I plan on playing them all, to be honest with you. I could say right down the middle, but it usually doesn’t end up that way. I plan on all of them playing. We’ll be smart. He’s not going to be ready to go in there and carry the ball an abundant amount of times but he’s ready to play.”
(on what he thinks of RB Steve Slaton over all) “Eventually this kid has a chance to be a heck of a player. How quick he gets to that point this year may have a lot to do with how far we go. But we’re going to count on him. He’ll get a bulk of work along with (RB) Ahman (Green) right now. We’ll see where he’s at but this football team is counting on him growing up pretty quick.”

We tried that once... Fortunately it resulted in a 38 yard pass interception penalty on their D... Unfortunately that was David Carr to Corey Bradford v. Dallas September 8, 2002...

I want to see us run the ball...we have come out passing in our exibition games and haven't really established any sort of early running game.

But if we ran the ball on the first play of the game, Green would immediately go on IR. :mcnugget:

I agree with that assesment. It's not flashy, but it will help establish what we want to do for that game. I really don't care what we do, as long as it's successful and not a turn over on the first play.

Saves us money and makes way for the new guys.... Even if he doesn't go down on the "1st play", I feel all we are doing is post poning the inevitable. The guy will end up unable to play for a significant amount of time this year, jusy my gut feeling.

We come out in a single back set. Weakside toss to Green. Harrison penetrates so quickly that he's able to disrupt the toss. Ball hits the ground and is scooped up by Polomalu and returned for a TD.

Green hurts his knee while falling down.

Gibbs is so furious that his head explodes and disappears into a fine red mist.

At least no one on field or watching will expect a pass to Andre Johnson.:smiliedance:

Good thing I'm going to record it on my DVR while I watch it. I'm gonna have to watch that one over & over & over again. I'll burn all of you guys copies as well.

I agree with establishing the running game early. I reckon we Old Schooler's always like to see the running game going early and often.

BUT, that's why I went back to take a gander at last season's plays. To me, it has become Kubiaks M.O. to open with the passing game. Heck, there were a few games last season I was wondering when I was going to see the run.

That's the vibe I get listening to the video on HT.com.

I hear a the players talking about keeping "on schedule."

Winston said it in his quotes

I think the big thing with our receivers and our passing attack is we have to stay on track, on schedule. One or two yard runs in this game are going to be fine. We can’t expect that we’re going to go in there and gash them for seven or eight yards at a time. We have to go in there and stay on schedule, keep those third downs to third and five or less. I think we’ll be fine because with our receivers and the way we go, we can convert a lot of those. Those are high percentage plays for us. Staying out of those long down situations are also going to keep us away from the crazy blitzes that they’ll throw. So, a lot of it is just going to be staying on schedule, running the ball effectively, and getting in there and staying tough and hopefully late in the game we can break the big one.”

and later Schaub said close to the same thing.

[Being able to execute our game plan and not try to outthink ourselves and be fundamentally sound with the football and what we are trying to do. And being on schedule, you know, you don’t want to get behind the eight ball on third down too often. You want to stay at third and six or less and you can do a lot of different things
I take this as the Texans really trying to establish the run early and often, and not get into 3rd and longs.

My prediction...

Ahman Green to the left side for 4 yards.

i don't care about predictable. i care about 2nd and 5 or 2nd and 3. that looks good to me.
Sorry to disagree, but that is what Steeler are hoping that we try to "grind it out" with them. Don't see that working this year. Just my two cents. Think coach K is on your side.

Is post poning anything like corn pone a type of corn bread that ihave read about in western books? Sorry, I am just really hungry.

Green will not get hurt this year. His money is tied to his playing every week. He's going to run "softer" than anybody you've ever seen and average 2 yards a carry but he's not going to get hurt. No way he's going to risk those $200,000 bonuses just to gain the extra 3 yards we need for the first down.

It will be a handoff to Green up behind Pitts, for a yard or two, just to get Green into the game again after being out for a while.

Ahman Green, two yards and a cloud of bandages.

Green will take it to the house every time he touches the ball.

Which house is the question.

After a 65 yard return by Davis to the Pittsburgh 27 yard line, Schaub pitches right to Green who steps and throws a strike to AJ for a TD.

Ya know, that actually crossed my mind whenever he re-structured his deal... [insert Bob Bummer smiley]

Matt Schaub throws a 80 yard touchdown strike to Andre Johnson to open up the game. On a side note, the unfortunate corner responsible for covering AJ on that play will retire from the NFL after that play and it will continue to haunt him for the rest of his natural life.

Crossed my mind too. They should have restructured his contract so he gets paid per yard.

Play action fake to Green, Schaub hits a wide open Jacoby steaking down the sideline..:throwball:

Now things get fuzzy. Does JJ catch it or drop it? :play:

Your guess is as good as mine.

JJ catches it and the team gets fired up and wins the game.:gotexans1

JJ drops it and the team goes into a deep funk and folds up like a lawn chair..:thud:

Thats my guess and I'm sticking to it.

Ohh..and Travis gets two sacks.
