Sherman era off to a thud

stiff

Noob
Arkansas State beats the Aggies 18 - 14 at Kyle Field. From the sounds of it turnovers killed the Aggies, along with giving up over 250 rushing yards.

Sounds like there are several on Sucide Watch calling for Magee's and Sherman's head.

A friend of mine is walking on to A&M in the Spring. So don't worry Aggies, you'll have the long snapper position solidified and you'll be legit contenders to win the Big 12.

Thanks for your time as a valued member of the Houston Texans....but man I am so glad you're in College Station Mike.

I am feeling sorry for the Aggies, many friends have had the Aggie spirit sucked out of them. However, the chances of the Aggies beating UT remain - 50/50.

I was at the game and witnessed this game. It is going to be a long season for the Aggies. Their defense is horrible. They gave up a ton of yards. Anyone of us could have run through the holes their OL were making. They weren't just horrible against the run though. Their secondary if very weak as well and were so scared of getting beat deep that they were 5+ yards off of the WR's all day.

The offense could be better but they need to bench Mcgee. It was horrible watchin Mcgee hold onto the ball and then try to run around until he was sacked. It was very very CARR like. I kept pinching myself hoping it was all a bad dream. I know Sherman was thinking the same thing.

Oh, and the Aggie kicker missed two FG's inside the 20 as well but it should never come down to that IMO.

Get ready for a long season Ag's.

McGee is not qualified to run any Pro-style offense.

Watching him in anything other than the spread option is just pathetic.

They ran the ball well in the first half. That about sums up the positives.

The defense is non-existent. It looked like they had never practiced against the zone read. Fran left them in bad shape so I'm not convinced it's all Kines, although I'm very skeptical about him being the right guy - mainly because it seemed to be such a desperation hire. You can see a lack of speed and playmakers all over the field.

McGee looks lost. At least they got big #1 on the field, albeit at WR. Yes, it will be a long year. I never heard that stadium - all 78,000 of them - so quiet after that ASU final TD.

The Carr comment is right on. It has been a few years since I have seen someone look that inept in the pocket.

It was their very first game.....anybody that thought Sherman was going to turn that team around from the get go was just dreaming.

Give Sherman a few seasons and he'll have the Aggies competing in the big 12.

The only chance they have at a winning season is if Johnson gets to play QB.

I've heard from some friends over there that he has already earned it in practice, but the coaches gave it to McGee out of loyalty or some odd reason.

"Turn the team around?" It was Arkansas State, for crying out loud. In case no one knows or have never heard of Arkansas State, I'll use it in a sentence: "Does anyone even know what conference Arkansas State is in?"

There is no need to "turn a team around" enough to beat Arky St. They are irrelevant. They have no talent. And these dogs are are at your crib.

They scheduled this creampuff to start the season 1-0 with little thought to 0-1 even being a remote possibility.

This was indeed an epic fail. Epic.

"Give Sherman a few seasons..." Franchione much?

aTm, basketball school that it is, is in for a very long football season.

Embarrassing.

I actually had a dream on Friday night that we were going to lose, so I wasn't all that surprised when we did. Sounds weird, but that's the way stuff goes.

To be honest I am not at all embarrassed by the loss. I'm sure the players are, though. This next week will be very long for the team, but it may end up being a good thing. We'll see.

...resume the Aggie bashing...

Seems like UT had their hands full with Arkansas St. last season and won 21-13. I did not watch the game, but I have heard there was a lot of controversy surrounding a certain on-sides kick attempt.

LOL. For those who do not know: Arkansas St. is in the Sun Belt Conference.

They aren't without talent. Corey Leonard is a playmaker at QB. Reggie Arnold is probably a future NFL RB.

Tyrell Johnson, the 43rd pick in the draft last year, played there.

Other than that, I got nothin. They play in the Sun Belt. The defending conference champion just got absolutely thrashed by Texas. Big XII schools aren't supposed to lose to Arkansas St.

I have a nice piece of trivia though:

Dennis Franchione's son, Brad, earned his Masters at Arkansas St. He now coaches at Blinn.

It seems I was hasty in my dismissal of Arky St. Sorry, aggy, with a stellar résumé like that, I'm surprised A.S. didn't drop a 60-spot on you.

They have a playmaker at QB. You are lucky to be alive.

Bless your hearts.

(btw, it may seem like I am being a bit vicious in my attacks at aggy. If that is the case, just mention the record against us (UT) for the past two years. That should shut my pie hole.)

Just remember: Any team can win on any given....saturday.

Ark St. outgained us last year as we walloped them 21-13.

This game was probably their Super Bowl so they came ready to play.

A&M was so focused on this game that after their last practice, they had a team water balloon fight.

By the way....make all the vicious attacks on Aggy that you want.

I found aggy in the rankings:

59 Hawaii A = 71.71 0 1 96.06( 2) 0 1 | 0 1 | 78.39 34 | 65.87 80
60 Appalachian State AA = 71.55 0 1 95.19( 3) 0 1 | 0 1 | 74.83 49 | 68.03 70
61 Rutgers A = 71.53 0 1 77.23( 41) 0 0 | 0 1 | 76.05 44 | 67.10 76
62 Southern Miss A = 71.46 1 0 52.96( 125) 0 0 | 0 0 | 69.67 70 | 72.75 55
63 Troy A = 71.46 1 0 63.12( 90) 0 0 | 0 0 | 70.66 67 | 71.64 60
64 Northwestern A = 71.28 1 0 58.88( 111) 0 0 | 0 0 | 69.32 73 | 72.74 56
65 Bowling Green A = 70.70 1 0 71.75( 63) 0 0 | 0 0 | 69.53 72 | 71.28 61
66 Washington State A = 70.70 0 1 81.97( 23) 0 0 | 0 1 | 75.33 48 | 66.15 78
67 Air Force A = 70.62 1 0 41.19( 153) 0 0 | 0 0 | 68.04 75 | 72.81 54
68 Mississippi A = 70.09 1 0 58.38( 113) 0 0 | 0 0 | 69.54 71 | 70.00 64
69 Navy A = 69.69 1 0 46.84( 142) 0 0 | 0 0 | 67.88 77 | 70.98 62
70 Texas A&M A = 69.58 0 1 62.60( 95) 0 0 | 0 0 | 71.51 63 | 67.13 74

You are reading that correctly - There is a AA team ranked significantly higher than they are.

People don't give small schools enough credit. Arkansas St. obviously isn't a powerhouse school or anything but they are a solid team that can upset a bigger school at any given moment.

In 2007 they:
Lost to Texas 13-21
Lost to Tennessee by the same margin Arkansas lost to Tenn.
Beat Memphis 35-21
Beat North Texas 31-27
Lost to Southern Miss 10-16

Now, that's not a resume to brag about by any means (lol) but you gotta give them some credit. North Texas, Memphis, Souther Miss aren't BAD teams... I'd venture to say Southern Miss could beat half the teams in the Big XII. The story isn't how a lesser talented/smaller school beat A&M but how A&M has zero talent and are severely mismatched to most of the teams they will be facing this season.

On the surface, this looks embarrassing for A&M, but deeper down they have a lot of problems, it seems- not losing to Arkansas St. but having to recruit quality players for the next several years before they can be competitive.

A&M isn't exactly overflowing with riches...

Here's hoping Sherman can change that. Im not going to come in here and make excuses. It was a terrible start to what could be a terrible season.

Hopefully Sherman can get it turned around with his offense and some good recruting.

Some people on this board are just brutal when it comes to Texas A&M. There is always so much hate towards them. Why?

We will not be horrible forever...Hopefully. We have the resources to be great again.

The UT/A&M rivalry.

I can't believe I am going to say this but, before the Fran disaster and we'll see what Sherman brings to the table, A&M used to be pretty good under Slocum. They weren't exactly the most gracious fans either and played with a chip on their shoulder.Perhaps that is/was a bit of their draw. The football program has fallen on hard times and I point some of that to recruiting losses after LSU and OU respectively revived their programs taking away Texas HS recruits and USC's revival under Pete Carroll took away California recruits A&M used to steal away regularly. The Texas Tech Red Raiders now are the equivalent of what the Aggies used to be like(except way more passing as opposed to more running).

Can Sherman bring that back...I'm not so sure. Until then they at least still manage to get up for one game a year on Thanksgiving.I'm hoping they lose this year and stop the two game win streak against UT.

I understand the rivalry...

What I dont understand is when there are so many people who hate Texas A&M and have no ties to UT other than a t shirt and a hat.

I am not one to use the term "T Shirt Fan", I would gladly embrace all Aggie fans who weren't/aren't students.

A rivalry is for students who chose one school over another. I respect UT and I have Longhorn friends who respect A&M. I love the chance to poke fun at UT but always respect them. I love it when the Aggies beat them...its rare so it makes it that much better.

My beef is the lack of respect some people show on this board towards A&M. Hopefully I will be able to get my shots in again until November.

If we dont beat New mexico I might just jump off a cliff.

I have also been amazed by people who seem to hate A&M and the animosity they display. Granted, it has been many years since I was a student, but people want to lump Aggies into one narrow viewpoint. I was up there this summer registering my son for school and I had a refresher course on how inclusive and diverse A&M really is. No matter what people want you to believe, A&M is a culturally diverse campus and Aggies pride themselves on community service and being friendly.

It is an excellent academic school. A&M engineers are recruited heavily coming out of college. All of my son's classes are taught by full professors who actually speak English. Not all major universities offer that to freshmen. And the saying, "Once an Aggie, always an Aggie" really is true. I really question middle age people who haven't let go of their college rivalries and let it blind them to good points about other schools. Some of my best friends are UT grads, we joke around about the rivalry, but the bottom line is that in no way should adults let college rivalries rule their behavior.

Aggies love our sport teams, and as a '84 graduate, we know all about getting our hearts broken. However, I wouldn't trade my 4 years at A&M for anything.

And CL, here in Houston, since there are no cliffs - it might have to be a highway overpass.

I said that hoping that it wouldnt come to that, if it does I will find a cliff...or a small hill. Either way I will be jumping off of something you can count on that.

I'm not defending the animosity towards A&M but like I've said I think the past several years under Fran has softened some of the hardcore Ags attitudes. Aggies haven't always been so gracious and they have had to swallow A LOT of pride the past few years as a reality of bad coaching, recruiting and inability as a result to compete with top programs.

Pot shots are one thing but some Aggies have in the past made UT fandom personal. A&M is now a more diverse place then in the past but that is a result of a changed university vision and I do commend them for it. I do appreciate and admire the the cordial fans on both sides but both on each do have asshat fans. Just because the ones on A&M's side have had to be more quiet lately doesn't make them non-existent or more "innocent".

I'm really surprised SecondHoneymoon hasn't chimed in with his thoughts on this subject.

I agree with this, and pride we have swallowed. What was going to be the perfect hire backfired on us like no one ever expected.

With that being said, since the NC everyones a UT fan, student, Alum or not. When there are so many people who rip on a rival school so bad without ever attending that school will just never make sense to me.

Aggies arent inocent by any means. Chances are when you hear someone defending A&M, they are/were a student.

I said 'epic fail' at the beginning of this thread. I figured that was enough. I try not kick a dog when its down especially when that dog has kicked my dog's butt the last two years.

I respect the Aggie football program though I used to respect it a lot more when Slocum was in power and they weren't getting beat by scrub teams. My biggest problem with Aggieland are the archaic traditions, the Hitler Youth corps swinging their sabres, and the all-male cheerleaders.

Some of my colleagues are Aggies and just about every one of them are truly great people that learned a lot about life and their careers at A&M.

I am trying to stay classy because Aggie fan doesnt need to be reminded about how embarassing the loss is. Not quite as bad as the loss to SW Lousiana but pretty darn close especially considering it was Sherman's opening game as HC. Once Texas gets some revenge on A&M this November, I may be a little more into it, but right now they have ultimate scoreboard and its pretty tough on me to be honest.

fwiw - University Of Texas undergrad from 1990-1995...ahh the Gardere era. ugly. he could beat OU though.

Yep, I know what you mean. I rarely see support for the Ags outside of College Station, yet there is burnt orange everywhere.

To be honest I like it this way. Just like the Texans in relation to the Cowboys, we are the underdogs. The past two seasons of victory over UT have been pretty freaking sweet, I have to say. That defied all odds.

Sherman will get it turned around, maybe not this season or next. But you know as well as I do records go out the window come the day after Thanksgiving.

It was a bad loss, the season is still early. It almost happened to the horns last season.

The Texan-Cowboy comparison is spot on.

I don't care what your opinion is of A&M or what your political stance is. I for one cheer for the 'Horns, but your reference about the "Hitler Youth Program" is freaking retarded.

I was going to leave that alone, There are thousands of graduates of the "Hitler Youth Program" who have proudly served/ serving our country.

And for the yell leaders, its just tradition. For those who dont know A&M was an all male military school until the 60's.
