NFL Team to ban Standing

that's sickening, stay home if you want to sit. i'll be dammed if i'm gonna drive 3 hours to sit. i own this seat from here to heaven mofo
 
I heard you must also now crawl to your seat after buying beer and a hot dog, since some people can't see past the aisles.
 
I blame SheTexan !! If G'Ma stopped complaining about having a right to stand in the Bullpen, maybe this would not be an issue league wide....

The Chiefs also have set up a text-messaging system that allows fans who might be offended by behaviors like standing to report the situation to the powers-that-be.

They were talking about how with the HDTV's and surround sound that it makes watching from home a better experience on the Dan Patrick show yesterday. I don't know about that because I like to feel the atmosphere of a live event but man it's getting silly. Maybe these people should be the ones that stay home and not ruin it for the "hooligans".You go to get excited and not sit on your hands to root for your team.

I definetely don't think standing should be banned, but I think people should exercise some common sense. If it is 3-3 in the second quarter, and it 4th and 10 and the punter runs on to the field, I think we can all agree that is not exactly a time to be standing. If it's 4th and goal at the one, of course. Stand to your hearts content and yell and scream or whatever. Remember that the people behind you paid just as much as you and some may not be able to stand for long periods. Simple common sense, decency and politeness goes a long way in life.

If someone asks you to sit, do so and be a gentleman about it. That's sort of the way I conduct myself in life in general. Now if it's unreasonable, IE they are about to score a TD, then I can see being perturbed. Othwerwise, take a seat.

I don't know. If someone in front stands up, I think it's their right. I can either stand up and look over them, or stay in my seat and watch the monitors or my kangaroo TV. I expect the person behind me to make the same choice, if I'm standing.

I haven't seen a problem with this in Reliant. Usually, the fans are standing at the appropriate times (before kickoff, goal line, late in the game, big field goals, big 3rd downs). I realize that the Bullpen stands the entire game. If someone doesn't care for that, they should choose another section. It's not the opera, it's a football game. And sometimes, you are going to have to stand.
 
I guess I agree with Porky on this one.
There are certain sections and certain times when standing is not only accepted, but encouraged. And I think that makes total sense. If you want to sit in the bullpen, be prepared to stand. If its 4th and 1, or hell, even 3rd and 5, be prepared to stand.

But to say anyone anywhere at anytime should stand the entire game can really screw up the experience for some people. I plan to be a Texans fan until I physically can't stand anymore, and Im sure I'll be annoyed if I have to watch the monitor at the game rather than the field because some guy in front of me has to stand on a 4th and 10 punt.

Agreeing with Lucky, however, I don't really think I've ever had a problem at Reliant with people standing or sitting at inappropriate times.

Don't ya just LOVE how they wanted to place blame on the "85 year old woman who teaches 2nd grade." READ my mind guys/gals cause there is NO way I can post whats going through it right now. After all, this is a family board!! Load of crap doesn't come close to describing this absurb rule!

Unfortunately, I can see this happening all over the NFL, even at Reliant. It already has started to some degree. Overalls got kicked out of the Bullpen last season because he chose to stand, IN A SECTION WHERE STANDING IS ENCOURAGED!! I bet every poster on this board has a story to tell about some a-h who wanted them to SIT down!! What really p*sses me off is that they want to place blame on the elderly and the drunks! B-S!! It's your middle age family guy who brings his wife and kids to a pro football game for Sunday dinner, or your corporate bigwig who uses a Sunday aft at the game to talk shop, or your arrogant seatmate who thinks just because he paid 60+ bucks for a seat he owns it. A PSL owner does NOT OWN a seat so he/she can do as they please. They own the right to have that seat for as long as they pay for the ticket. If they start a fight, get overly obnoxious, drunk, ruin the game for fellow seatmates, then they will get ejected from the game, PSL owner or not. These are the people who show up in the second quarter, get ticked off if you bump them while they are eating their stuffed potato or nachos, have NO idea who #80 is, and leave in the middle of the fourth quarter so they can beat the traffic! These are the people who need to stay at home! JMO!

Do you all remember the Tenn game where over half the fans left because we were getting out butts kicked, BUT, Sage ALMOST brought us back to WIN that game? There were about 30,000 fans left and Reliant was electric!! Everyone was on their feet, screaming, cheering, and doing what football fans are suppose to do, SUPPORT YOUR FOOTBALL TEAM! We lost that game but it was an awesome experience! Give me a stadium with 20-30 thousand screaming, STANDING fans anyday over one with 70-80 thousand who are sitting on their butts! JMO!!

I propose that aside from player injuries and the number two (number one for some) and a few exceptions, we ban sitting overall.

If I wanted to sit the entire game, I'd stay home. My leather easy chair is 100x more comfy than those goat herder seats at Reliant.

What next? The official NFL golf-clap?!

I was there and stayed...made my friends stay too. My parents and a bunch of the other tailgaters sitting in another section left though, deciding that the game was over and it was time for a drink in the parking lot. Those of us that stayed gave them as much **** as possible when we got out...it was rough staying at the game with the jackass Titans fan to Texans fan ratio getting out of control.
 
I hate to say this but we may want to start a writing campaign into the NFL about this rule. This may sound far fetched but, what's good for one team can become the norm very quickly in the NFL.

That was my mom's b-day last year, and it was the first time that she stepped foot into Reliant (something she swore she would never do after the Oilers left).

We had a blast, and of course we stayed for the whole game (TDC policy is 0:00, NO exceptions!). We stood then entire 4th quarter, too!

She still has a soft spot for the Titans, no matter how much I tell her it's not the Oilers. But, she's coming around to be a Texans fan. She said even though they lost that game, they showed heart.

And she had to admit that tailgating was a blast. She never knew the experience, and said she would definitely do it again.

For the record, as Grandma and others know, I don't shout obsenities or drink alcohol. However I did have a nice little meeting with an usher the last game of last season. I also had a twilight zone type meeting with the same usher at the All Access event and we shook hands and let bygones be bygones. He is still employed and I still have the right to stand my big butt in the Bull Pen. Think of it this way. I provide shade for the guys in the Ticketmaster seats behind me.

I'm having an "unproductive" day at work, so I've been visiting a few other NFL teams' websites to read THEIR fan/stadium policies. Many mention general statements about "Interfering with other guests' ability to enjoy the game" and "not standing on your seat or in the aisle".. Nothing yet about not standing except for KC.

Lambeau Field has an interested statement at the end of their "Unruly Behavior Policy":

Any other conduct deemed to be beyond the bounds of reason for a spectator attending a professional sporting event.

This is an interesting topic actually.

I've had quite a few problems with whiney little fans at Reliant stadium during Texans games. We stand up and cheer and there is always some whiney person telling us to sit down or people looking back at us crazy for screaming for the team. It irritates me how people go to football games and act like it's a tea party.

Last year during the first game of the season, this woman kept telling us to sit down, and we finally got fed up and told her to buy better seats next time. In the fourth quarter we noticed that her and her little daughter were gone. About 20 minutes later my buddy and I had gum all over the back of our Texans jerseys. We looked at floor behind us and saw all of the evidence of gum wrappers. I was pissed, and that woman was lucky she never came back. TO think that a woman encouraged her own daughter to put gum in our seats just for standing up and cheering was pathetic.

That is why I almost always try and sit in the BULLPEN. Most of the fans enjoy having a great time and getting pretty loose. Whenever we sit on the first level near the 50 or 30 yard line is when we encounter a lot of the snobby little fans who act like it's a ballet. I wish they would just stay home.

It was loud. It was people who cared. It was amazing. I've never experienced anything like that. Such a sorry game turned into an inexplicable game turned into a bummer, man.

It is the reason why I will never wear nice jewelry to a stadium again. I popped 4 tiny diamonds out of a ring because I was banging on the chair in front of me. So. Dumb.

You are right about the food eaters. A salad eating lady was the last person who asked me to sit down.

Interesting. The articles quoting the Chiefs policies mention standing, but the policy as written now says "excessive standing."

I wonder if they changed the policy or if that's what it said all along.

Heh, I was standing throughout most of halftime in section 606 at a game last season (as I often do to stretch, since we don't leave the entire game unless a bathroom break is CRUCIAL), and a lady 5 or 6 rows back yelled at "Ryans, #59" (me) to sit down because she "couldn't see the Marines".

I kinda got flustered but sat down because I didn't think arguing with a lady about seeing the Marines would win me support from surrounding fans. And I wasn't about to disrespect our Military. I just thought it was funny to get told to sit down at half time.

Wow you're right TC. It DID say standing on the KC site earlier today when I saw that Yahoo article, but NOW it says "excessive standing." They totally changed it within the last couple of hours!

I personally agree. But to some, especially in college, standing the entire game is 'what you do'. Maybe that's why the Packers and Bears specifically state "conduct deemed to be beyond the bounds of reason for a spectator attending a professional sporting event"...

They actually have some of the best fans in the game. That stadium is a sea of red every home game. They travel well. Attendance has never been an issue with that team.

Theres a difference between standing out of tradition (AKA at an aggie game), standing out of excitement, and standing for the sake of standing.


Im guessing this rule was put in for the latter, and I dont see what the big deal is. Somehow I doubt that anyone will ever get told to leave because they are standing to cheer on the team. People who stand up simply to spite the people who are sitting behind them on the other hand, who knows.

One thing that has always annoyed me about professional sports is that every fan attempts to critique the level of dedication of every other fan. If you are standing the whole game you are somehow more of a fan, or if you are sitting the whole game you are somehow a more respectful fan.

Its all a bunch of whining and crap. If you want to sit and cheer, go ahead. If you want to stand and cheer go ahead. I can yell just as loudly sitting or standing, and sometimes I choose one and sometimes I choose the other. I dont think this is ever really that big of a deal

99% of fans know that there is standing and sitting at various times, and thats why its not a problem 99% of the time.
 
Well personally, KC sucks. I lived there for all of 2 1/2 months. (Was great watchin' the Texans whoop 'em in Arrowhead tho). The weather sucks.. the people are rude.. I hate it. It's a cess pool. It doesn't surprise me that they would pass some ridiculous thing like that. Now if they only banned them from speaking.. KC might be alright.. aside from the snow.

I have been to many Oiler games… but only one Texan game.
Predictably, there wasn’t a whole lot of difference in the fan reaction during the games. :yawn:..Then and now.

It is my opinion that probably 90% of Houstonians would prefer to sit and eat salad during the game. That is only after arriving during the second quarter.

During the only Texan game I have attended (last year’s opener against KC), the team was performing very well but the fans around me were extremely lackadaisical, cheering only when prompted to by the large screen projectors. It seemed to me that most, if not all the spontaneous cheering was from the end zones...:fans:

If a persons primary objective is an unobstructed view and salad on demand, then they should watch the game from the comfort of their home..:fridge:

They would be able to get there on time and wouldn’t have to leave early to beat the traffic.

But that’s just one old mans opinion. Not worth much to anyone but me.

Maybe the Texans can ban people who sit and talk about their personal life the entire game. Every year my dad and I always have to sit through 4 quarters of people in the row behind us talking about their personal life, just going on and on and on. It's really annoying. We see the people about 3 times a year so I guess someone that can't make the game gives it to them.
 
I thought the Blackberry section was the designated Tea and Crumpets viewing area?

They need to ban the stench that emanates from those nasty nachos and meat-like by-product they throw on those things. The smell of that stuff makes me queasy, and that affects the enjoyment of the game more than someone standing up. (And the folks that eat this crap never throw it away, but instead stick it under their seats, which then looks like a loose bowel problem. *blech!*)

I'd definitely have a "screendoor" situation if I eat anything of the sort. Peanuts and beer have been my only means of food and beverage at Reliant. Or Minute Maid.:cool:
