Play-Offs~!!

Jagsbch

Waterboy
Indy pretty much owns the AFC South that is a fact that we all pretty much have to live with for the moment.

Being a Jags Homer or so they say, I will go ahead and give the Jags the edge for the #5 seed in the Play-offs.

Now this is where things get really interesting.

The Texans IMO, do not have to be better than the Jags, Indy, Steelers, Patriots, or the Chargers to make the Play-Offs. All the Texans have to do is be better than the:

Jets
Bills
Bengals
Browns
Broncos

Now I need some volunteers to help me break down these 5 teams in order to get legit reasons on paper explaining why the Texans have a better shot to make the play-offs over these contenders vying for the #6th seed in the Play-Offs.:fishing:

Titans Ravens are out of the Play-off picture IMO due to having to adjust to new offenses not to mention their QB woes...

nah but i think the browns are strongeer than us
I think the Browns running game is more established. But that's the only edge I would give them over the Texans. Both teams have solid passing attacks and excellent return teams. Each defense was mediocre last season, but looks to improve with veteran acquistions and the maturation of young defenders. The November 23rd game in Cleveland could be crucial for both teams' playoff chances.

I'm not looking for the Texans in the playoffs this year, but I am looking to see some improvement. I would think both lines should be improved, and the QB had better be improved. I don't think we'll see a whole lotta change one way or the other in the defensive secondary.

As to the running game, that depends on the O-line picking up Gibbs system. I'm pretty sure we be a better running team, but to what extent, I'm not going out on a limb there until after we finally see them in a pre-season game.

Gads, August can't get here soon enough.

Outside of DRob our second dary worries me.

And they traded away their 3rd CB and then lost a starter for the season. AND the starting RT. I think we have a shot at being better than them. I think that makes secondary a push at least, and we have the edge at DL in spades.

What do you mean the QB better be improved? Are you in a time warp from 2006?

This sounds pretty accurate in my opinion. Hopefully there will be a pleasent surprise player really step up in the secondary and surprise people. It would be nice to see that come from Barber or Molden since their rookies as well.

I didn't know they made this trade.

I didn't know they made this trade.
BigBull17 is referring to the Browns, who traded CB Leigh Bodden to the Lions in the Shaun Rogers deal and lost CB Daven Holly to a knee injury during OTAs.

I'm so tired of hearing about the Browns!!!!!

I can't wait until thier 6 and 10 at the end of this season.

Anderson will be on the bench by week 9 because of performance, and they'll have to give Quinn a shot.

We should be in contention for a playoff spot this year but, my expectations are to be improved over last year even if we fall a little short of the playoffs. We still have alot of questions to be considered a bona fide playoff team. But, who knows how the stars will line up this season?

Outside of DRob our second dary worries me.

I'm not convinced that D.Rob will come back as the same player, so I would be concerned about our entire secondary until they prove otherwise.

With regards to the thread's subject, I think being in the toughest division in football will prevent us from making the playoffs this year. But, I do think we should expect our first winning season, and that will take some of the sting off of barely missing the playoffs due to a tie-breaker.

Nope. LOL. I'm waiting to see if Schaub proves the be the QB a lot of folks here already think he is. I certainly want him to be, and I'm rooting for him. But he hasn't proved it to me yet.

As much as a Sage fan as I am, it's obvious Texans are not looking for him to be the starting QB, but as a backup to Schaub otherwise they wouldn't have given up so much for Schaub. That discussion should be over with by now. But until Schaub can prove himself for a whole season by not missing practically half of it again, I will continue to have my doubts.

Improved O-line and running game will help Schaub a LOT this year, so maybe all the doubters like me will be proven wrong in 2008. I hope so.

I'm with you on this Thorn. We may be sacriligious for questioning the annointed one but IMO, he still has to prove himself worthy of being annointed the starter without any competition and worthy of all the hype he has received on this board. I hope he does prove himself worthy for all our sake.

the browns will be put in their place this year and embarrassed on national tv over and over again

DRob may not come back in full form but he'll have some effect out there.

Yeah, I hope so, because I can't wait to see him fall on his face.

That's the thing, the 6th seed contenders are not alone in the "alot of questions" department.

Browns have a knarly schedule this season. They have to not only play the division in the AFC South and North twice but the NFC East who BTW are giving the AFC a run for its money as the toughest division in the league.

Browns had one of the worst defenses in the league last season, and that is not something you are going to change overnight, even with the additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams in the Browns 3-4 defense.

Thing is the 3-4 is a complicated defense and too often teams such as the jets and Browns don't realize they have to shift out of it and into a 4-3 when they lack the personell to run a 3-4. It takes great continuity for the 3-4 to be executed properly, besides having the right personell to run it. Browns defense and this schedule are going to be like oil and water, not a very good mix giving the edge to the Texans.

If the Browns can break even with this schedule that would be some accomplishment in itself IMO.
