The former Texan Pro Bowler doesn't even make it to training camp.

The Redskins have signed undrafted rookie defensive lineman Jonathan "J.T." Mapu, the team announced on Thursday.

To make room for Mapu on the roster, the Redskins have released wide receiver and kick returner Jerome Mathis.

Mathis originally signed with the Redskins on April 4. He was the Redskins' only free agent acquisition of the offseason. He previously played for the Houston Texans.

Mathis was expected to provide Rock Cartwright some competition at kick returner in preseason, but the Redskins drafted a pair of college kick returners in wide receiver Devin Thomas and cornerback J.T. Tryon.

He's a butthead, but I will admit that I'm going to miss the excitement of his kick returns.

Somebody will give him a shot..........probably the Cowboys or the Raiders.

Andre Davis provides excitement too. Can't wait to see what he can do for an entire season as our KR.

I thought he would at least make it to training camp. Snyder must have finally found out that Mathis was a Casserly draftee.

Sure hope he doesn't go to Tenn.

That's what I was thinking. Say what you will about Mathis (I could certainly say a thing or two), he was a hell of a kick returner and it would suck enormously to see him go to a division rival.
