Hey guys,

We've posted our final mock draft (7 rounds) at NFLRoughDraft.com. I hope you guys are satisfied with Houston's picks.
 
For the lazy:

18. Chris Williams, OT, Vandy
79. Tyvon Branch, CB, U Conn
118. Corey Lynch, S, App. State
151. Dexter Jackson, WR, App. State
223. Jeremy Geathers, DE, UNLV

First off good job on even finishing a 7 round mock.

I like the Branch pick, put I almost expect him to be moved to FS (230 career tackles shows at least he likes to hit) in the pros and if that is the case the Corey Lynch pick doesn't make much sense.

Dexter Jackson is fast, but I'm not even close to convinced he could be the #5 WR in Houston, espically since Tashard Choice was still available.
 
Interesting seeing two App State guys going to us. Jackson has speed to spare and could compare favorably to Jerome Mathis without the drama.

Can you imagine PacMan vs Mathis twice a year . What happens if they go out after the game ?

I agree ... I hate the new wave players like Chad ocho , To , Pacman , and Mathis . They hurt their team because of the ME 1st attitude .
 
As far as I am concerned, Williams makes that draft.

I don't care for the 4th rd pick. I think he can be had much lower, and might not even get drafted imo. I'm cool with him in the 7th.

I think Jackson does present good value, but I am more stoked about our WR core than these people were. I am ok with him in the slot, but isn't that where Jacoby Jones should fit? Tashard Choice might be my pick there as well.

I also like the Geathers pick. His measurables don't seem all that great, but then again that's why he is available here. I haven't watched UNLV, but it looks like the fake internet scouts seem to like his motor and pass rush skills.

All in all, I'm happy with this draft.

I have Williams @ #18 if avail but I have Branch in 4th also to play FS. Great size and speed. If no 2nd and Forte is there in 3rd, he's my pick with Godfrey or Chevis Jackson for CB if Forte gone.

Gosselin has Branch at 91 on his top 100, I'm starting to think he might not make the 4th round.
 
A few notes from skimming your draft:

Mayo at #7 overall, do you really feel that is a value pick?
Cincy passing on Rivers or defense in general? And reaching for a slot WR in the second?

Great draft for the Cheifs. Best overall player and then 2nd best power blocker. May bring concerns he isn't too distinguised enough from last year's first rounder. Blake in the 5th could go either way.

Manningham in the 3rd? You seem to be endeared to the very poor WR class this year.

You might want to reconsider the Lynch pick, or give a better argument other than he was good at the Subdivision level.

Dixon is not much different at all from T. Jackson. If the Vikes look QB, I would anticipate a drop back guy. Not Jackson lite.

Monk as a 7th rounder is filthy. I would be upset if the went right after our pick. WR with size. Low risk/High Reward.

In regards to Mayo, I've read rumblings that Mayo fits better for what the Pats want in the ILBs then Rivers does.

I've heard that too, but that is a big jump from potential first rounder to potential top 10. Top 10 LB's are the Ray Lewis/Brian Urlacher potential guys usually. Next year could see two of them go top 10. I'll be surprised if the Pats select him at #7.

actually you don't see many inside linebackers in the top ten unless they are really special. Edge rushers usually dominate the top picks from the linebacker corp...that said, Mayo has a game similar to Derrick Brooks and Al Wilson. Mayo and Rivers are the two best conventional linebackers at the top of the draft.
 
pretty much impossible to judge a 7-round mock draft. different teams draft much differently, different coaches have favorite prospects they want to see drop and will take over a need, etc. it's the kinda thing that gets an A for effort, but that's about it.
 
I'd be very surprised if the Texans don't pick at least one running back.

I think Chris Brown was insurance in case they didn't get who they want in the draft, but I don't think that they are done.
 
All I'm willing to say as of right now is that the NFL Draft is tomorrow. Everything else is up in the air. A lot obviously depends on what the teams picking ahead of us will do. But I'm confident that Rick Smith & Co. know what they're doing.

anything that put williams on the team makes me happy. all the picks bangs a hole... looks like you weren't just throwing darts at it....took some research & time. thanks for the effort.
 
Overall, I found it to be pretty good and an interesting mock. I see us taking a RB instead of a WR, and taking a DE earlier.

Not really. Injuries happen. When Andre went down, we had guys like David Anderson, and Harry Williams contributing to the wr corp. Both of those guys are gone now. That late in the draft, why not spend it on a guy at a skill position.

I agree with this. Based on the given Mock draft, I don't mind the WR pick but if we don't get a RB even at that #, that would pretty much upset me! I don't think the Texans will come out of this draft without a RB.

This is true as with a Demarcus Ware type talent. Inside backers tend to be more productive, cerebral LB's than off the chart measurable guys. I agree that Rivers and Mayo are at the top of the conventional LB list this year. However, projecting to next year, there are 2 potential top 15 MLB's that will serve as an abnormality to the trend you pointed out.

I was hoping he'd go under radar a bit. His size and speed are amazing. Having him back up Demps and CB would be good training & make me more easy if DR can not return as soon as he hopes. He would be great on KR also.

My dream scenarios would have Dallas seeing Stewart available at #18 a powerback with speed to run with what they have and be willing to trade both first rounds to us for #18 and our 4th.
We then go Cason and Sam Baker in first, 2nd (Sage) we get Jamaal Charles perfect fit for ZBS 3rd Branch to back up FS/CB/KR 4th to Dallas 5th BPA

I do not see a DE drafted before 5th round due to weakness of draft and the hope Weaver will earned his $ with shoulder healed. I would also be ok with picking Forte in 3rd to replace Green. Rotating Charles and Brown and using Forte as a power back for short yardage or to take time off clock would be awesome. I understand Walker does not fit ZBS. Chris Taylor as 4th back has potential but we have seen virtually nothing of him in regular game action.
